Overall Rating
For 2016 the MDX is packed with a V-6 gasoline engine which was first introduced in 2014 and offers superior efficiency along with adequate performance figures.
Acura has always epitomized reliability with the sumptuous but pragmatic lineup of vehicles it manufactures. One of the distinguished products, the MDX topped the rank for favoritism thanks to the incomparable response from the United States populace. Whether it was a better amalgamation of ideas and concepts of practicality, adequacy, and tranquility that granted more competence to this iconic model or was it just the brand rapo of Honda that attracted buyers, the MDX managed to seize a significant share in the segment.
The Technology trim seems like a reasonable bargain between the highly utilitarian and the modernly sumptuous packages that the MDX adorns. Meanwhile, it may not provide some gratifying features of the Advance trim but upscales the infotainment by a long shot. Also, it is advisable to avail of the SH-AWD along with the Technology package.

The MDX presents itself in three different trims starting from the Base, followed by the Technology Package and the Advance Package. Actually, Acura managed to brand the MDX with a set of different packages. For a change, this year onwards, the AWD can be availed on all the trims and as will the 9-Speed Automatic transmission that Acura has developed for the MDX newly.
Well, besides these alterations, the SUV will retain its visual exuberance, be it outside or inside. In the hindsight though, the MDX will be a rejuvenated vehicle with an onslaught of some advanced technology to go with the money. Speaking of money, opting for the SH-AWD will ask you $2,000 more, but the engrossing handling it promotes is worth every penny it demands.

Powering this elegant SUV is a 3.5L 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine having cylinders assembled in a linear configuration. Although naturally aspirated, the engine has enough grunt to the wheels, and now with the SH-AWD in the pocket, the MDX will hardly feel short of grip off the tarmac.
Nevertheless, the all-wheel drive is not the only person of interest here as the brand has made a colossal alteration between the differential and the engine. Yes, it is the highly awaited 9-Speed automatic transmission that replaces the brassy CVT that pulled the MDX till now. Combined, all these mechanisms pump out 290 horses along with 267 lb.-ft. of spin.

There is a lot that can be said about the competition the MDX faces, but we have our individual articles for that. Nevertheless, it is clear that the MDX is not the most authoritative SUV in the bag, as that privilege is owned by the German powerhouse - Audi Q7. In fact, the MDX even surpasses the BMW X6 and the domestic cousin Infiniti QX60 to secure the last spot in this domain.
This isn’t something Acura owners should be concerned about as technology is primarily utilized by the brand to make their powertrains smooth and efficient rather than powerful. Likewise, the MDX boasts that the only advantage of its tamed engine is an economy of 19 miles to a gallon on the cramped New York streets, while it pulls off an astonishing figure of 27 MPG on the highways. Combined, the MDX averages at around 22 miles per gallon, which is quite an achievement given the class of SUVs it exhibits. Meanwhile, the new 9-speed transmission weighs in with its sophisticated advantage here.

Although equipped with 19.5 gallons of a composite fuel tank, the Acura MDX manages to a good distance before refueling. However, comparatively, the MDX falls short of a few gallons of fuel to travel the farthest distance as competitors offer larger storage for gasoline. While we are on it, the German shepherds have smaller MPG figures but with a bigger tank, while the Japanese siblings have similar attributes in every sense of fuel consumption.
Acura invests in luxury, and the MDX’s cabin informs about its approach fortuitously. The MDX’s interiors are quite a delight to spend time with. Starring as a seven-seater, the SUV is more practically a crossover as dictated by the compressed 3rd-row ergonomics. The shoulder width is comparable, but the sloping roof makes accommodation difficult as you move to the rear. On the plus side, the seats are firmly cushioned to exhibit optimum comfort and support on longer rides. Apparently, the premium leatherette in beige is the highlight of this cabin, which runs all around and gives it a more capacious feel.Â
Speaking of the technological overlays, the front row is the one garnished with a sophisticated touch. As a standard functionality, the driver and passenger seats can remain power-adjustable along with lumbar support to suit all shapes and sizes. Besides, a memory privilege for the driver’s seat ensures versatility and respects independent choice, while a tri-zone climate control separates the rear rows from adhering to the atmospheric considerations of the first-row occupants. On the other hand, the cargo capacity is really subpar as compared to the masses.Â

The interior ergonomics are quite clearly visible from the dimensions that go on paper with the MDX. The legroom especially is seen dropping drastically as we go towards the rear. As long as the dimensions are concerned, the Infiniti QX60 surprises the superior competitors with its extravagance. Meanwhile, even though the BMW X6 lacks the third row, it presents only plausible room for every occupant. Few key features include-
Acura has an abundance of elaborate intricacies that make up for the convenience part of its vehicles. The MDX is no exception to this labyrinth as the brand encompasses the SUV with some advanced infotainment features. To pull the strings for entertainment, the dashboard houses one screen while the other is inserted in the center console.
Moreover, opting for a higher trim opens doors for a driver information display as well. However, as intuitive as the infotainment unit is, its user-friendliness is questionable, thanks to the complicated interface and arduous graphics. Nevertheless, the list of features remains very subtle.
The 2016 Acura MDX enjoys a great amalgamation of elegant yet tough, luxurious yet practical looks. As with other cars from Acura, this flagship SUV has got an attractive diamond-pentagon grille and the Jewel Eye LED headlights, which are just awesome. Roof rails add more glamour to MDX's personality and provide practicality as well.
Exterior styling hasn't changed for 2016. The MDX looks more like a sport-wagon than a utilitarian SUV, with its tapered roofline, chiseled front end, and a smooth rear.

The MDX is 196.2 inches long, a number which may not be the best in class, but not quite insignificant as well. Precisely, even though the Infiniti QX60 is the longest in the house, it has a smaller wheelbase. On the other hand, Audi Q7 defines the overall creature comfort better dimensions than any other SUV in the lot. Meanwhile, the Technology trim of the MDX features the following amenities:
The Acura MDX suite of safety features is enough to put even the pricier vehicles to shame. There is a comprehensive list of both active and passive safety features to keep the occupants safe. Moreover, the car has been allotted a 5-star safety rating in almost all the segments when tested by major crash-testing agencies. Safety and reliability are never going to be a concern for the 2016 Acura MDX. Following are some of the safety features that come with the new MDX SUV -
The time spent by the MDX on the field tells you everything about the reliability of the automobile. Being one of the most sold vehicles for the brand yet, there is no reason the MDX should not be a great choice for this year too. To support my statement, the SUV exudes all the attributes that one looks for in a good vehicle. It is adequately powerful, extremely complacent, intuitively styled, and fiercely loaded with features. Other vehicles do account for these, but then there is the price, which surprisingly, Acura asks for the least. Thus, we feel that the MDX is worth a shot in every respect.
