Overall Rating
The 2016 Audi S5 is a coupe that represents the best that Audi has to offer. It is sporty but not in a way that luxury has to take a backseat.
The 2016 Audi S5 is a coupe that represents the best that Audi has to offer. It is sporty but not in a way that luxury has to take a backseat. It has timeless styling, an art Audi seems to have mastered of late. This very well compliments the smooth and refined power delivery provided by its 3.0 L supercharged V-6 engine. The car feels athletic and composed at the same time. The car is also available in convertible form.
We recommend buying the Premium Plus trim of the S5 as it is significantly cheaper but with the Technology package which adds enough features to call it a Prestige. This optional package is recommended especially because it adds features similar to the higher trim but at a fraction of the cost.

The 2016 Audi S5 is offered in two trim levels – Premium Plus and Prestige, and there is the option between two gearboxes. Both variants are powered by the same engine – a 3.0 L V-6 supercharged engine producing 333 hp. All cars have Audi’s famous Quattro all-wheel-drive platform. And finally, you have the choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7 speed automatic, the manuals being $1,000 cheaper.

We recommend buying the Premium Plus trim of the S5 as it is significantly cheaper but with the Technology package which adds enough features to call it a Prestige. This optional package is recommended especially because it adds features similar to the higher trim but at a fraction of the cost.
The 2016Audi S5 is offered with a choice of two gearboxes – a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Both transmissions are very characterful and can be very engaging. This is then mated to a 3.0 L supercharged V-6 engine producing 333 hp @ 5,500 rpm and a torque of 325 lb-ft @ 2,900 rpm.
The powertrains are very powerful and make the performance undeniably excellent. All the cars come with an all-wheel-drive drivetrain which can be the best in the business – Audi’s legendary Quattro. The 2016 Audi S5 sprints from 0-60MPH in 4.3 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds which makes it pretty quick.

From the data, we can observe that the BMW M2 is the most powerful vehicle in its class but its performance credentials cannot nearly be put on paper. In comparison, the Audi is not much faster in terms of performance despite having the advantage of all-wheel drive. The Cayman sounds like it's down on a lot of power when you compare it side by side but makes up for that with very close real world performance.
The 2016 Audi S5’s engine – the supercharged V6 is extremely frugal when it comes to fuel efficiency. Although high revving performance engines are never known to return good fuel efficiency, the S5 turns out to be a bit of an exception here. It has a fuel capacity of 16.1 gallons and offers 17 MPG within city limits, 26 MPG on the highways, which results in a combined mileage of 20 MPG. Opt for the dual-clutch version, and these numbers rise up by 1 MPG further. The DCT is not only faster but also more efficient.

Although the Audi S5 has a very frugal engine, to begin with, its rivals impress even further. The BMW, despite being more powerful, is also more fuel-efficient. But the M2 loses out on the total range as it has a considerably smaller tank. The Porsche has a much more fuel-efficient engine and an even larger tank, making it the best in terms of fuel consumption.
The 2016 Audi S5’s interiors are a very good place to be in. The design is amazing and so are ergonomics. Material quality is top-notch throughout and the seats are incredibly comfortable.
The Coupe can accommodate 5 passengers, but the rear seats are too cramped to be of any real use for adults. The front seats are extremely comfortable but the second row feels very cramped and hard to get in and out of.

From the data, it is clear that the BMW M2 and Audi S5 are evenly matched in terms of interior space, but in the second-row legroom, the M2 provides enough for seating an adult, whereas the Audi does not. Unfortunately, the BMW has the least cargo space. Porsche does not reveal the interior dimensions of their cars and hence we cannot make a comparison there. The main interior features of the 2016 Audi S5 include:
The Audi S5 has excellent infotainment features but the interface is not the most enjoyable. If you opt for the Technology Package, you get a different MMI controller which makes life a lot easier in the car.
Otherwise, this might turn out to be tricky. The sound quality is excellent and so is navigation. The standout infotainment features of the 2016 Audi S5 include:
o 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system
o Audi Connect information system
o AM/FM Stereo
o Rearview camera
o Satellite radio
The exterior styling of the 2016 Audi S5 does not feel one bit dated despite its conservative approach. The car looks beautiful from every angle with lovely straight lines and swooping curves.
Overall, it works well with the character of the car and is expected to age well. When comparing the dimensions, S5 falls on the bigger side.

The Audi is the heaviest car by a considerable amount when you compare it to its rivals in the segment. The BMW M2 is also closely matched, but it weighs less with a more powerful engine. The Porsche Cayman is the lightest car among its rivals due to its superior weight reduction. The main exterior features of the 2016 Audi S5 include:
The Audi S5 has undoubtedly given a lot of attention to the safety of its passengers. Although we do not know the exact NHTSA and IIHS crash test scores, it has excellent safety features and solid build quality. Features like Anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, and more are part of the coupe. The main safety features of the 2016 Audi S5 Coupe include:
The 2016 Audi S5 is an amazing car with excellent performance as well as practicality. However, it has the lowest fuel efficiency, is cramped for the rear passengers, and is inferior in terms of performance compared to the M2 as well. Starting at an MSRP of $53,100, the M2 is cheaper as well as stands as a much better option overall.
