2016 Buick Enclave Review

Pros

  • Smooth and quiet ride
  • Luxurious cabin
  • Generous cargo capacity, even behind the third row
  • Top safety scores

Cons

  • Big, and handles that way
  • Fuel economy is average

The 2016 Buick Enclave is equipped with the same V6 engine that provides great power output along with decent overall performance. The Buick Enclave is not particularly quick in acceleration and is has a lower fuel economy.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The 2016 Buick Enclave is a large three-row crossover SUV that seats up to 7 passengers and it is available in three trim levels referred to as "groups": Convenience, Leather, and Premium. Most of the features are found standard across trims but the higher trims are provided with more enhanced features. Also, the more intriguing features are presented via some explicit packages that go with the lower trim.

Engine and Performance
7.6/10

The 2016 Buick Enclave is offered with a 3.6L V6 engine that facilitates the power output of 288hp and provides a torque of 270lb-ft. The V6 engine is capable of producing a decent performance but it often lacks the thrust and enthusiasm found in their previous iterations. The drive and handling of the Buick Enclave is decent and provides a smooth driving experience. However, it gets tough to maneuver the vehicle in sharp U-turns.

The 2010 Buick Enclave comes with an all-wheel-drive drivetrain that is mated to a 8-speed shiftable automatic transmission. The engine along with the transmission is responsible for offering a somewhat slowed and boring acceleration, especially when the vehicle requires a downshift.

From the data, it is evident that the Buick is the most powerful SUV in this comparison in terms of power output and torque. The Chevrolet comes second in this respect. It is also the fastest car in the segment. Unfortunately, the Ford comes last in terms of power output and torque. Moreover, it is also the slowest car in the segment. However, the Ford Edge is the most affordable car here, and the Enclave is the most expensive.

Acceleration and Braking

The 2016 Buick Enclave SUV sprints from 0-60 mph in 7.9 seconds and reaches its quarter-mile in 16.2 seconds. These figures imply that the Buick Enclave is quite slow. The Chevrolet Traverse is the quickest, taking only 6.5 seconds to sprint from 0-60 mph. It is slower than the Murano in the quarter-mile drag. The Edge takes 7.2 seconds to reach the 60 mph mark and the Murano takes 7 seconds for the same. All the four cars have the same top speed.

Model 2016 Buick Enclave 2016 Chevrolet Traverse 2016 Ford Edge 2016 Nissan Murano
0-60 mph (sec) 7.9 6.5 7.2 7

Rear brake (inches) 13 13 12.4 12.1
60-0 mph braking distance (feet) 126 120 124 117

In terms of braking distance, the Murano stops the quickest, taking only 117 feet. The Traverse is good as well, at 120 feet. The Edge however, takes 124 feet to stop and the Enclave takes 126 feet to stop. The Edge gets the biggest brakes at 13.6 inches, whereas the Murano has the smallest brake at 12.6 inches. The rear brake on the Enclave and the Traverse is the most at 13 inches.

Handling and Steering

The Encalve is a heavy car, something immediately noticed during driving. The performance is good, but not enough. The transmission is slow at times. Some may find this adequate, but its low according to us. The steering of the car feels heavy at low speeds, or while turning. Otherwise, at highway speeds or even something less, the Enclave is poised and the steering is excellent. The steering has a turning diameter of 40 feet.

The handling on the Enclave is the opposite of steering. The car offers a composed ride quality, with a smooth driving experience. The Enclave can do better, but its managable. The rear does twist around at turns and there is body-roll. The suspension on the car is well-tuned, and does not cause a problem of uncomfortability on bad roads at all.

2016 Buick Enclave vs 2016 Chevrolet Traverse

The 2016 Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick Enclave share a lot of things. They have the same architecture, the same platform, and many machanical components. The interior is identical in terms of size, but the Traverse's interior is modern wheresas the Buick's interior materials are much premium.

The Traverse is less expensive as well. Both the cars are rated the same in terms of ssafety, and have nearly the same safety features as well. However, its important to note that the top ends on both cross the $40,000-mark, and in such cases a brand value is apreciated, where the Buick triumphs.

2016 Buick Enclave vs 2016 Nissan Murano

The 2016 Nissan Murano has some benefits over the Encalve, but some major downsides as well. The Murano costs around $2500 less than the Enclave, but has a similar engine with less power and torque. However, it is quicker than the Enclave. The Murano is much more efficient than the Enclave, in terms of fuel economy.

The Enclave seats 7 people whereas the Murano seats only 5. Also, the cargo space on the Enclave is higher than Murano's. In terms of safety, the Enclave is better rated as well. The Murano, however, is more reliable.

2016 Buick Enclave vs 2016 Ford Edge

The 2016 Ford Edge is a smaller car than the Buick Enclave. It has a very well equipped interior, with top materials and a bright colour tone. The Sport mode on the Edge is seriously quick- something that the Enclave can't keep up with. The Edge handles much better as well, and offers a high fuel economy.

The  Edge is very affordable compared to the Encalve. In the case of safey, both the cars are very highly rated. However, the Buick has more advanced safety features. The interiors on the Enclave might be a little old-fashioned, but luxury is top. If a third-row and luxury are not of concern, then the Edge works.
