The next four trims namely, Easy, Trekking, Lounge, and Trekking Plus come with an option to choose between FWD and AWD drivetrain, and the prices are given below. A point to note is that the high-end Trekking Plus trim is practically useless and doesn't offer many features for the increased price.

The Trekking trim is the one to go for as it offers all of the necessary luxury features for the price with an option to choose between FWD or AWD drivetrain. The 2016 Fiat 500x comes with a 1.4-Liter 4-Cylinder base engine, outputting  160 hp and 184 lb-ft. The engine's power is transferred to all the front two wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. The Fiat 500x reaches 60mph in 8.5 seconds and crosses the quarter-mile mark in 16.6 seconds. The base price of the Fiat 500x is $20,000, and its top speed is limited at 112 mph. The upper four trims of the crossover come with a 2.4 inline-4 engine, which pushes out 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.

In comparison, the Fiat is the fastest of the lot. With the lowest displacement engine in comparison, a 1.4 L Inline-4 under its hood putting out the most power of 160 hp and torque of 184 lb-ft pulls the 500x to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds and crosses the quarter-mile mark in 16.6 seconds. The Mazda CX-3 offers a lower power and torque output of 146 hp and 146 lb-ft, taking 8.6 and the same 16.6 seconds as the 500x to reach 60mph and cross the quarter-mile, respectively. The Subaru produces a bit more power of 148 hp than the Mazda but is the slowest, taking 10.3 seconds to reach 60mph and 17.7 to cross the quarter-mile mark, respectively.

The 2016 Fiat 500x delivers a fuel-efficiency of 25 mpg in the city, 34 on the highway, and 28 mpg of combined fuel economy. The Fiat 500x gets a 12.7-gallon of fuel capacity, outputting a range of 318 miles in the city, 432 on the highway, and a combined range of 355 miles. The efficiency figures are good but not the best in the segment.

The Mazda delivers a combined fuel efficiency of 31 mpg while the 500x provides only 28 mpg. The Subaru has the least efficient figures of 23 mpg in the city, 31 on the highway, and 26 mpg combined. The Subaru has the biggest fuel capacity of 15.9 gallons, followed by the Fiat and the Mazda with a 12.7-gallon fuel tank. The Subaru Crosstrek delivers the best-combined range of 413 miles, followed by the Mazda and the Fiat providing 393 and 355 miles of combined range.

The Fiat 500x provides good space and comfort for five passengers. The cabin features good quality materials and fit and finish is exceptional when considering the fact that this is a Fiat cabin. There is ample presence of soft-touch materials on the dash as well as the armrests. Even the hard plastics are of good quality, and the overall cabin is upmarket and looks good. The seats are leather-wrapped in the higher trims and do offer good comfort and support.

The Subaru has the most legroom in the front row, followed by Mazda and Fiat. When it comes to second-row space, the competition is all on par with each other, but the Subaru still offers the most legroom. In cargo capacity comparison, the Subaru again has the most of 22.3 cu-ft, followed by the Mazda with a significantly lower 12.4 cu-ft and the Fiat with 12.2 cu-ft of cargo space, respectively. How intuitive is the 2016 Fiat 500x’s infotainment unit?

The 2016 Fiat 500x features a very bare basic Uconnect 3.0 in the base trim with four speakers, while the mid-spec trims feature a Uconnect 5.0 with a 5.0-inch touchscreen and six speakers. The high-end trims feature a Uconnect 6.5N with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a Beats audio premium sound system. The Fiat 500x looks (you’ll know it the first time you look at it) like a Mini Cooper on a lifted suspension. I don’t know how this Fiat’s design is so much similar to a Mini but the resemblance is not ignorable. This doesn’t mean that the 500x is a beauty to look at, like the Mini. It is actually pretty bizarre and odd-looking from the front, whereas the side profile and the rear end look much better. The Fiat 500x weighs 2,967 lbs, which is pretty much on par with the competition in the segment. 

The Subaru is the longest while the Fiat is the widest of the bunch. The Subaru weighs 3,109 lbs, followed by the 500x that weighs 2,967 lbs, while the CX-3 is the lightest weighing 2,809 lbs. The Subaru has the best ground clearance of 8.7 inches while the 500x and CX-3 come with a ground clearance of 7.9 and 6.1 inches, respectively. Major exterior highlights of the 500x are-.

The Fiat 500x is a superb crossover with great power output, quality interior, and good handling. The performance is better than the competition even in the base’s lower-powered engine. There are a host of features provided across various trim lines, and the interior is also great. Also, the efficiency figures are not very impressive, but it copes up to that with increased power output, making this one a superb option in the segment.
