The Hyundai Sonata is powered by a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine which makes 185 hp and 178 foot-pounds of torque, which can be found in the SE, Sport, and Limited trim. The Eco trim has a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine which makes 178 hp and 195 foot-pounds of torque, while the sport 2.0T and Limited 2.0T come with a 2 L Turbocharged in line for the engine which makes 245 hp and 260 foot-pounds of torque. All the engines are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission which directs all the power to the front wheels.
The base engine on the Sonata fails to impress, and its not something you should go for if you desire performance. The other engines are better, with the smallest capacity engine being the best performing. The shifts are timed well, and the gearbox is responsive and on time.

Lastly, the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine does the 0 to 60 sprint in 6.9 seconds and the standing quarter-mile and 15.5 seconds, the Eco engine is really good in terms of performance.

The Accord is the quickest, taking 7.5 seconds to reach the 60 mph mark. It also takes the least time at 15.7 seconds to complete the quarter-mile run. The Altima and the Camry take similar times for the 0-60 mph run at 8 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 16.2 seconds. The Altima has the most top speed at 130 mph. In terms of braking, the Accord stops quickest, at 119 feet. The Sonata and the Altima take the same distance at 121 feet, whereas teh Camry stops the last at 126 feet. The Sonata has the largest front brake in this comparison, at 12 inches whereas the Altima has the largest rear brake at 11.5 inches.
Handling and Steering
More than the handling and steering on the Sonata, its the ride quality that impresses everyone. The cabin is super quiet, with a very smooth and controlled ride quality no matter what. The strut and milti-link suspension setup is well tuned to absorb most bumps and undulations and does not transmit much to the passengers. The biggest problem on the Sonata: the engines.
No matter what engine you drive with, the performance does not satisfy and leaves one wanting for more. The precise gearbox is a beauty. The steering on the car is excellent and the driver controls what he turns. In corners the car is stable and is composed. The wheels offer enough traction and the Sport trim makes this experience better with the paddle shifters and the flat-bottom steering wheel.
