Overall Rating
The 2016 Infiniti Q50 is a compact executive sedan replacing the Infiniti G. The sedan is based on Nissan’s FM platform and offers a fully decked up interior with a choice of potent power plants.
The Infiniti Q50 is one of the more handsome-looking cars in the segment. The sharp exterior of this Infiniti sedan works well in tandem with its hi-tech and opulent interiors. But the Q50 is not just about looks, it's usable and pragmatic. Infiniti’s introduction of the Q50 as a successor to the G37 has worked wonders.
The major attraction of the car is its dual-screen system which though looks attractive feels complicated when used. The new Infiniti Q50 is economical, spacious, and performance-driven. Its ride and handling quality is unnerved and unparalleled. There is very little that the car misses out on. However, if fuel economy is the only factor driving your buying decision, we recommend looking elsewhere.
We recommend buying the mid-level Premier trim with the rear-wheel-drivetrain as it offers best-in-class fuel efficiency along with price appropriate features. The Premier trim vaunts an extensive list of features including as standard the one’s available with the base trim and as optional features available top-rack sports variant. The All-wheel-drivetrain is similar in all aspects and will for sure make the ride more poised and confident but it lags fractionally behind in fuel efficiency.

The Infiniti Q50 is available in 6 trims starting from a base 2.0t trim that costs $33,950 for the RWD version and goes all the way up to the 3.0t Red Sport 400 trim that costs $49,950 for the AWD version. Even in its base version the sedan comes quite loaded with several useful features while the slightly pricier 2.0t trim adds a host of standard and optional features to make the deal even sweeter.

We Recommend
We would recommend you to go for the 2.0t Premium trim along with the Driver Assistance and Technology packages. Both the packages add further to the list of features that includes Forward Emergency Braking, Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Rain-Sensing Wipers, Around View Monitor w/Moving Object Detection along with Adaptive Front Lighting System, High Beam Assist Headlights, Intelligent Cruise Control.
The 2016 Infiniti Q50 sedan comes with a choice of powertrains while the base model features a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 engine. Despite being a four-pot, the motor is quite refined and shows no lack of power while performing day-to-day activities. The base engine is not meant to be driven enthusiastically and this factor alone bogs down the overall sporty appeal of the sedan.
The motor is mated to a standard 7-speed automatic transmission that works flawlessly with all the powertrains and offers sleek gear shifts to utilize all the power from the motor. The 2016 Infiniti Q50 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, making it the quickest one on the list here.

When compared with the rivals, all the sedans come with a similar turbocharged four-cylinder motor but apart from the BMW 320i, the Volvo S60 and the Mercedes-Benz C300 pushes out significantly higher power figures but the Volvo’s torque is evenly matched by that of the Q50’s. The BMW 320i being the costliest offering here disappoints with its power figures.
Being a sporty sedan, the Infiniti Q50 offers a mediocre fuel economy as compared to its much powerful rivals. Even though the four-cylinder motor is adequately powered and optimized as well, it returns a decent 23 mpg around the city, 30 mpg out on the highways, and 25 mpg of combined mileage. The aging 7-speed transmission is the one to blame here for the lackluster fuel economy since all the rivals come with either 8-speed or 9-speed automatic units.

The lackluster fuel efficiency of the Q50 is compensated by a big 20-gallon fuel tank while the Volvo S60 is the most fuel-efficient offering here but comes with the smallest gas tank of 15 gallons. Both the BMW 320i and the Mercedes-Benz have a close fuel economy rating.
The interior of the Q50 has more than enough going for it to make it a favorable choice over its rivals. The interior features premium materials and a striking design theme that negates boredom once you spend some time in it. Almost all the surfaces are covered in soft-touch materials and the dashboard design looks quite stylish.
The standard seats lack soft cushioning but can be fixed with the optional sports seats that offer additional under-thigh support and better cushioning. The rear seats are spacious enough to accommodate taller passengers and offer a good amount of headroom and legroom. The sedan also features the best in class cargo capacity as well with a space of 13.2 cu-ft that is very closely followed by the BMW 320i with its 13.0 cu-ft. of space.

All the sedans offer almost similar back seat dimensions but the Volvo S60 falls a bit short on front headroom owing to its lower roofline. It also comes with the least trunk capacity of 12.0 cu-ft. closely followed by the Mercedes-Benz C300 sedan.
The Q50 comes with a compelling infotainment setup that comprises a dual-screen setup. The upper screen measures 8-inches while the lower screen measures 7-inches. Both the screens are controlled by Infiniti's InTouch infotainment interface and integrate some great features such as voice recognition and can be had with an optional 14-speaker Bose sound system.
The 2016 Infiniti QX50 infotainment system also offers additional features a CD Player, Bluetooth Adio Streaming, and an optional SiriusXM Satellite Radio. You can also pair your smartphone to the Q50's infotainment, but advanced features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are undoubtedly missing from the picture. Some key infotainment features offered with the 2016 Infiniti Q50 include:
The Q50 comes with a striking exterior design that is missed on several popular luxury sedans such as its rivals, the BMW 320i and the Volvo S60. The front fascia of the sedan looks quite aggressive with an angry-looking design, mesh front grille, and angular headlights. The side profile looks curvy and the same design follows to the rear of the sedan as well.
The 2016 Infiniti Q50 comes with chunky 18" wheels, giving it a sporty, no-nonsense appeal. We love the exaggerated shoulder line that folds beautifully above the front door handles. The Q50 also sports a stunning dash-to-axle ratio, which further adds to the elegance of the sedan's timeless proportions.

On the contrary, the Volvo S60 looks the most ordinary one here with a straightforward design language. The BMW 320i features an elegant design that is common with almost all Beemers and the same is the story with the C300 as well.
As is the case with all Japanese vehicles, the Infiniti Q50 scores high on the safety aspect. It bagged the best possible score of “Good” from the IIHS and scored a perfect “5-star” on all fronts under the NHTSA crash tests. It was made possible by the array of safety features it comes with and the strong build quality. Some standard safety features offered with he 2016 Infiniti Q50 include:
The 2016 Infiniti Q50 is one gem of a sedan if we consider the package it offers at the given price. Even in its base trim, the sedan comes in a quite feature-loaded form but its sporty image might not go well with the new 4-cylinder turbocharged motor, but when compared with its rivals, the performance is quite acceptable. Overall, the Q50 poses as a great alternative to its German rivals with an interesting design and a feature-loaded interior. In conclusion, we would highly recommend the 2016 Infiniti Q50 for your next purchase, as it uniquely blends together the brilliant aspects of performance, refinement, and reliability in a cost-effective package.
