The Maserati Ghibli sedan is offered in a total of three trim levels for the 2016 model year. The Base trim comes with a price tag of $70,600 and is quite feature-loaded as well. This trim comes with the same V6 motor as the higher trims but in a lower state of tune delivering considerably lower power figures. The mid-level S trim comes with more power and performance along with a handful of upgrades over the base trim such as additional leather trims for dash and doors. The top-end S Q4 only offers an AWD layout and includes no other upgrades over the S trim. There are also some packages to further enhance the sedan both in terms of comfort and sportiness. The Premium package adds remote start, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear armrest with power and USB ports. The Luxury package adds premium leather upholstery and additional leather surfaces for the base trim. The Luxury Plus package only adds ventilated seats to the Luxury package. The Zegna Edition package further adds some cosmetic upgrades such as special contrasting fabric and leather surfaces from the famous Italian fashion house.

If you feel that the performance of the Base trim is adequate for you you can opt for it with the Premium Package to further enhance your experience. If you seek more power and performance then the top-end S Q4 makes more sense since it sweetens the deal with an AWD system.
The Maserati Ghibli sedan is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 motor that comes in two states of tune. The Base variant’s motor is tuned to produce 345 horsepower and 369lb-ft of torque. The S trim’s motor produces over 400 horsepower, taking the performance to another level.
The basic V6 is just about right for the sedan though, a V8 would’ve been a great addition. The V6 also sounds quite good with a whistling and a throaty engine note that resonates all the up to the cramped rear seats. The motor is capable of accelerating the car to 60mph from a standstill within 5.5 seconds which is an impressive time for a sports sedan.

The Audi A7 comes with a V6 combined with a mechanical supercharger but ranks below the Ghibli in terms of performance and power output. The BMW M550i is the real charmer here with an excellent price to performance ratio. It costs lesser than the base variant of the Ghibli and offers way more power and torque than the more powerful version of the Ghibli as well.
Fuel economy is not the first thing that the Italian sports car makers consider while building their vehicles since all the attention is dedication is given towards enhancing performance and driving experience. That being said, the Ghibli doesn’t disappoint either with a decent fuel economy rating. The city mileage is rated at 17mpg while the highway mileage is rated at 24mpg. The combined mileage is rated at 19mpg. The sedan also comes with a big gas tank of 21gallons which helps to reduce the frequency of gas station visits.

The Audi A7 gets an edge over the Ghibli in terms of fuel economy owing to its lower power figures. The BMW M550i surprises once again by delivering almost similar fuel economy ratings to the Ghibli despite having way more power and a much bigger motor under its hood.
The Maserati Ghibli’s interiors look graceful at first sight with highlighted leather surfaces and an Italian flair for designing purposes. After you spend some time inside the cabin, you’ll start to notice that most of the switchgear and knobs are of sub-standard quality considering the price of the vehicle and you’ll see a lot of equipment that have been borrowed from much cheaper Jeep and Fiat vehicles since it is a part of the FCA group. The seats are supremely comfortable with excellent cushioning and support.
The seat provides the maximum comfort for adults of all sizes and the lateral support is worth noticing while cornering. The rear seats do have a surprising amount of headroom and legroom but have restricted foot resting below the rear seats. The trunk is a generous 17.7cu-ft and you can further split-fold the rear seats to increase the space. It particularly comes in handy if you decide to take your Ghibli out for running daily chores sometimes.

The Audi A7 might seem like offering a low headroom for both front and rear passengers but its low seating position covers up for that. It is also as spacious as the Ghibli but has a way better overall interior quality and fit and finish levels. The BMW M550i also has a comfortable interior with adequate headroom for both front and rear passengers as well.
The infotainment system on the Maserati Ghibli is the one you’d find in much cheaper Jeep or Dodge vehicles but it is quite a practical one. The system comes with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display and includes some basic yet handy features such as a navigation system and an eight-speaker audio system with a CD/DVD player, satellite radio, an SD card reader, a USB port and an auxiliary audio jack. The audio system offered in the sedan is pretty impressive with a 900-watt Harman Kardon audio system or a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system.
Some highlighted features of the infotainment system are:
Exterior design of the Maserati Ghibli is quite polarizing. It is loved by many yet it irks to some buyers owing to its excessively aggressive and sharp styling. The Ghibli feels more like a scaled down version of the bigger Quattroporte sedan but has a style of its own.
The front end looks eye-catching and sharp owing to the front grille design and the projector headlamps with LED DRLs nicely accentuate the design. The overall design is quite aerodynamic with smooth and streamlined design cues running towards the rear-end of the vehicle.

The Audi A7 comes with classic Audi styling and features a more executive styling rather than a sporty one. It comes in a hatchback body style hence, it stands as an uncommon offering in the segment. The BMW M550i looks like a beefed up 5 Series sedan which it essentially is, and comes with some sharp styling as well.
The sedan comes with a respectable “Good” rating from the IIHS but it has yet not been tested by the NHTSA. The standard safety equipment offered with the sedan are antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag, hill-hold assist and a rearview camera. Optional features further adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors.
Safety features of the Maserati Ghibli sedan are:
The Maserati Ghibli sedan comes with a heavy dose of Italian styling and strong performance within its segment. It surely lacks in terms of cabin material quality but offers excellent performance and driving pleasure. The sedan is quite fuel-efficient too considering its performance-oriented placement in the market but there are better alternatives to this if performance is the sole concern.
