Overall Rating
The 2016 Mazda 6 is a mid-size car. Unlike most of the mid-size cars available in the market now, the Mazda 6 offers a manual gearbox for people who like to shift and tune the gearbox according to their driving pattern.
The 2016 Mazda 6 is a mid-size car. Unlike most of the mid-size cars available in the market now, the Mazda 6 offers a manual gearbox for people who like to shift and tune the gearbox according to their driving pattern. It remains to be one of the most ignored sedans in that class, shadowed by its rivals and ignored by the customers attracted to the other offerings in this segment. That is very unfair because Mazda has it all to take on the competition: performance, economy, interiors, and the long feature list. Also, it has one of the best distinctive designs in this segment.
If you are a manual transmission fan, you should go for the Grand Touring trim to enjoy the most of the interiors and also enjoy the driving feel. Otherwise, we recommend the Grand Touring with automatic transmission. On both transmissions, we recommend the GT Technology package.

The Mazda 6 has a 2.5L I-4 engine that produces an output of 184 hp @5700 rpm and a torque of 185 lb.-ft @3250 rpm. You have a 6-speed manual as standard, and a 6-speed automatic is optional. We recommend the automatic if you want a better fuel economy.
This car is a front-wheel-drive car. The Mazda 6’s engine is very smooth and refined, and consumers loved the feel behind the wheel. The sedan touches the 60 mph mark in 7.9 seconds and completes the quarter-mile in 16.1 seconds.

The Mazda 6 is cheaper by $1,000 compared to the rivals. At this price range, the Mazda 6 offers a performance that is not too bad for this segment. The Mazda 6 does 0-60 mph in 7.9 seconds, little behind the Honda Accord’s 0-60 mph mark of 7.4 seconds. The Ford Fusion is behind by nearly a second. The Honda Accord has a quarter-mile time of 15.5 seconds. The other two cars are just behind, with just above 16-second quarter-mile time. However, the Mazda has the highest top speed of 138 mph, whereas the Honda Accord has the lowest top speed 124 mph.
Fuel economy is one of the strongest points of the Mazda 6. The Mazda 6 has a fuel economy of 25 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway with manual transmission. With the automatic transmission, the Mazda 6 returns a city mileage of 26 mpg and highway mileage of 38 mpg. This is a very high economy for a mid-size sedan, and very impressive. The sedan holds a fuel tank capacity of 16.4 gallons, which is the least in the competition.

The Mazda 6 has a range of 410 miles in the city and 606.8 miles on the highway. The second-best range is offered by the Honda Accord of 395 city miles and 585 highway miles. The Ford Fusion offers the least range of 363 city miles and 561 highway miles. Surprisingly, the Mazda has the least fuel capacity 16.4-gallons, whereas the fuel capacity of the Honda Accord is the most at 17.2-gallons.
The Mazda’s interior is impressive. The layout is clean and neat, and there are a lot of functional features on the inside. The cabin is roomy and sets some high standards to match in this segment. The materials are better, and have a high quality and finish.
The materials feel very above-par compared to the previous year's model. The buttons and the knobs feel sturdy and have a sense of high quality to them. The cabin has loads of metallic accents throughout. Overall, the interior on the Mazda is sure to please you.

The space inside is great and very spacious. The front seats are supportive and offer a lot of headroom and legroom. The seats are well cushioned and offer adequate support. The rear boasts of a lot of legroom, however, the sloping roofline could eat into the rear headroom. The rivals are slightly ahead of the Mazda in the space they offer, but the Mazda 6 makes a strong case for itself with the premium interiors and roomy cabin. However, the Mazda 6 has the least trunk space available with 14.8 cubic feet. The Ford Fusion offers the most trunk space at 16 cubic feet. Major interior features include-
The Mazda’s infotainment system is feature-rich and will satisfy the music enthusiast in you if there is one. The infotainment system of the Mazda has standard features like a CD player, iPod/USB interface, auxiliary audio jack, and a 6-speaker sound system.
The automatic transmission adds audio upgrades and a 7-inch touchscreen. Upgrading to a higher trim adds satellite radio and an 11-speaker Bose audio system. Some infotainment features include-
The Mazda 6 is a handsome car. The car’s sharp looks, the flowing roofline, and the tall rear make it one of the most attractive cars in this segment. The built front fender combined with the edged headlamps, which have a U-shaped DRL and the wide grille, give the front of the car a masculine face.
The bonnet has a curve that flows above the fender onto the front door, which is a very unique piece of design. The side is well done with the chromed-lined windows, the sloping roofline, and the big wheels that lend the car a sporty look. The rear of the car is slightly tall, compared to the front, and is detailed with well-cut taillights and a dual exhaust at the bottom. Overall, the car is a looker like no one else.

As the comparison goes, it’s amusing how close the Accord and the Mazda are in terms of the curb weight, differing by a mere 9 lbs. All three cars are very similarly proportioned with a maximum difference of 1 inch in length and height. The Ford Fusion is the heaviest here, with a weight of 3,431 lbs, which is heavier than the other two by well over 200 lbs. Ground clearance offered on all three cars will make you clear most of the undulations on the road with ease. The Mazda 6 has massive doors and a subtle road presence. Visibility is good, all around. Some exterior features on the Mazda 6 are-
The 2016 Mazda 6 has an overall 5-star rating in the crash tests by NHTSA. The IIHS ranked the 2016 Mazda 6 “Good” in their overall safety ratings. It also earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick + award. All trims come standard with front active head restraints, antilock disc brakes with brake assist, traction control, stability control, and front and side airbags. All trims except the manual Sport get the rear-view camera and the automatic emergency notification. The Touring and Grand Touring trims add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic monitoring. Other important safety features available are-
The Accord is one of America’s most trusted and liked vehicles. It has always been one of the best selling cars in the country. However, the Mazda has better performance and it is also about $4000 cheaper than the Honda. But the Accord is certainly more spacious and more use friendly. Hence if you have to choose between the two, it would depend completely on the user requirements.
The Toyota Camry too is one of the hot-selling cars in the country and has long been a favorite. It is a car that offers bullet proof reliability and ecellent after sales service of Toyota. However, the Mazda does everything better than the Camry and also is $2000 cheaper than it. In this comparison, the Mazda clearly has the upper hand as per the product is concerned.
The Ford Fusion is equally priced as the Mazda but the latter offers better performance and fuel economy. The only area where the Ford betters the Mazda is in terms of trunk volume. Otherwise, in every other way, the Mazda is the better car of the two.
The 2016 Mazda 6 is a well-made car, loaded with decent performance and features. The car looks excellent, has a lot of practical features, gives a good economy, and also is a very safe car. It is sadly undiscovered by most, but it will give you absolute joy to own one. The car is very reliable too, and we think this car is worth checking out before you make your call.
