The loved-by-all model, the Mini Cooper is back and how? Owned by BMW! The convertible trims of Mini Cooper are immensely popular in the USA and all over Europe. The 2016 Mini Cooper is mature- both in terms of size and power. It is lively, sporty, and redefines the fun to drive experience. The Mini is quite fast and feels much faster due to its tinier dimensions. While the acceleration sound can be noisy for many people, that 'noise' is music to the ears of many car lovers.
The 2016 Mini Convertible S is a better choice in general. Surely it costs more than the base model, but you won't be disappointed with the performance on offer. Buying a used car is also not a bad option if you are concerned about the price. All in all, the Cooper S trim brings better value for money than the base model in the lineup.

The 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible is available in two trims: the base Convertible and the premium Convertible S. Apart from the convertibles, the 2016 Mini Cooper is available in two more body styles of hatchback; Hardtop 2 doors and Hardtop 4 doors. The John Cooper Work trim in hatchback style is the most expensive of all, priced at the MSRP of $ 30,600. Besides the convertible trims, the John Cooper Work trim also boasts an Inline-4 engine.

Mini Cooper owners have nothing but praise for the highly responsive steering, tight chassis, and grippy tires. The 2016 model is the same. The front-wheel-drive is available in all trims and configurations.
The front-wheel-drive setup works surprisingly better than any rear-wheel-drive system. While the Mini Convertible S offers 189 horsepower, the John Cooper Works trim has 220 horsepower to offer. Despite having fast acceleration, the Mini takes a few seconds more than its competitors to reach 60 MPH.

The Cooper Convertible has a good engine, and although not the most powerful among the competitors, boasts enough to boost your senses. Expectedly, the 3.7L V6 on the Mustang produces the most power, followed by the turbocharged Camaro. While the Cooper keeps availability limited to an automatic transmission, most offer a manual transmission for enhanced fun.
With 189 horses to serve, it is obvious the small but formidable 2.0L would require a large amount of fuel. However, the scenario is different with Cooper. Despite a decent power output, the British convertible wins hearts with the incredible fuel efficiency of its 4-cylinder engine. According to the EPA, it produces almost 25 miles to a gallon in the city, while that can be stretched up to 34 MPG on highways. This brings the combined figure around 29 MPG, a number well appreciated by the American experts.

The lower the engine size, the lesser you have to spend on gas, that's the general rule in the automobile world. The fuel economy of the Mini Cooper is better than almost all its competitors, except for the lighter MX-5 Miata. The latter gets a huge advantage of its size, providing almost 31 miles to a gallon combined.
The Mini Convertible offers more legroom and space in the front than its competitors, but it falls behind almost all of them when it comes to cargo space. The high quality of cabin materials adds up to the opulent interior feel.
The Premium Synthetic Seats, Climate control, wireless call system are standard in both 2016 Mini Convertible trims. While the driver and passenger seats' lumbar support are amongst the many optional features for Mini Cooper Convertible, it comes standard in the Convertible S. Also optional for both trims are the leather heated front seats, cloth seats, navigation system, and premium sound system.

Thanks to the folding room, the practicality of convertibles is largely hindered, and the Mini Cooper is no exception to that. Unlike its hatchback version, the convertible spares just 5.7 cu.-ft. to be used for fitting in cargo. Meanwhile, the Mustang is the only convertible having a boot space figure with two digits. Being owned by BMW has its own advantages. It means that Mini doesn't have to worry about the spinning wheel of technology, for its parent already has everything accounted for. As far as infotainment is concerned, the Cooper convertible is no different from its fixed-roof counterpart. Standard features in the 2016 Mini Cooper include Bluetooth, automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system, and a climate-controlled glove box.
Available features include satellite radio, a Harman Kardon audio system, a six-disc DVD player, automated parallel parking assist, a head-up display, navigation, and the Mini Connected infotainment system with smartphone integration. The Mini Connected system is easy to use, and the center stack's physical buttons and knobs are all straightforward. Few key infotainment features available with the convertible are-
There are two ways to look at the 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible Trims. One, where it appears a normal subcompact BMW car. The second one is to drop the top and then ogle at its beauty. It takes just 15 seconds for the soft-top to fold down, so won't have to wait long to feast your eyes.
Apart from the fun, the Mini Convertible also offers a level of class that elevates the feel of the car. The redesign gives the Convertible S new grille and bumper. The headlights and tail-lights look ancient but it is not a flaw. It gives a classic look to the Mini. The auto headlights, power windows, rear defrost and Tire Pressure Monitors are standard in both trims. It is also the shortest of all its competitors in length and height despite its newly increased size.

No matter which flavor of Mini we're talking about, the design has remained so consistent that some people will never realize the car was totally redesigned two years ago. Beyond the different trim levels, there are contrasting color schemes, racing stripes, and a number of other personalization touches owners can request. Overall, the Cooper convertible comes with a great exterior package compared to its competitors. Major exterior highlights of the Cooper include-
The 2016 Mini Cooper received an overall rating of 4 stars out of 5 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2016 model includes eight airbags as standard equipment: not only front, side, and side-curtain bags that cover the entire window opening, but also knee bags for the driver and passenger seat in front. The usual suite of electronic safety systems is present; from anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution to dynamic stability control and a tire-pressure monitoring system. The 2016 Mini Cooper ensures the following standard safety features:
Though the Audi A3 Cabriolet has excellent features and looks very stylish, it is much higher in price than all other cars mentioned here. If we look at the affordability of convertible models, Mini Convertible competes only with the Mazda MX-5 Miata. That said, if you aren't bound by a budget, the German pick is certainly the best one.
Mazda MX-5 Miata costs almost 5 grand less than the Mini Convertible S. It has better fuel economy, looks modern and has more second-row space than our Mini Cooper.
The Miata is also Rear-Wheel-Driven, which makes it easier to get sideways if you ever plan on going sideways. On the other hand, the Mini offers a Front-Wheel-Drive setup, which isn't suited for drifting.
The Ford Mustang EcoBoost is hands down the best performance car you can buy in this price range. There is a V6 as well, which is cheaper but also much less exciting.
The 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine gives much better power and performance than the Mini, but the Mustang's 19 mpg fuel economy falls back on the low end. If you select Mustang, you will have to spend more on gas.
Mini is an iconic brand; known for its tiny, nimble, and most importantly, exciting cars. The character of the Cooper and Cooper S help win the enthusiasts over. It is brisk on the road and looks classic. Though the 2016 model is bigger than its predecessors, it certainly does not have ample cargo and rear-seat space that some of its modern competitors offer. Performance-wise, it is a good car. Compared to other luxurious brands like Audi and Chevrolet, the Mini is much more affordable. If you're someone who enjoys driving, you should definitely consider this one.
