Overall Rating
The 2016 Porsche Panamera sees no major changes and still carries the extensive options of the engine lineup. All the engine options are powerful and provide a great overall performance.
The Porsche Panamera is the car for people who are an enthusiast at heart but can’t give up on the duties and responsibilities of yours. With a price range starting at $78,100, the Panamera offers impeccable performance and driving dynamics combined with world-class luxury that will have you visiting places in comfort and class. The Panamera redefines executive class with its performance and luxury.
It boasts of a large backseat, excellent driving and a interior that will entice everyone that gets inside. The Panamera is one stunning looking car. However, the exterior of the car might not appeal to everyone, thanks to its bulky looks and a rear that makes it look more like a wagon. At that price point, one might think that its a fair price, but take a look at the options and you'll know how expensive it can be. All in all, its something very unique and classy.
Given the wide variety of trims on offer, we cannot stick to one strict choice as each car offers different levels of detail. If you are an enthusiast, the Turbo S should be your choice, but the GTS will also serve you well. But if you are looking for a Porsche car, but hopes to have it chauffeured around or to use it within the city, then the base model is the right one for you.

All the trims are offered with capable engines. The power output ranges from a humble 330hp to a boasting 570hp in the Turbo S. The interior is luxurious and classy right from the base trim, and as you opt for the “Executive” variant, you will get an extended-wheelbase model with more legroom at the rear row.

The base engine on offer with the Panamera is a 3.6LV6 which churns out 310 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. The engine, even though the weakest among the engine offered, still provides great acceleration. With the Porsche Panamera, it would be more precise to say engines and not just engine as there are 4 more engine options along with a hybrid. The car is coupled with a 7-speed dual clutch PDK (Porsche DoppelKupplung). The cars come with a RWD or an AWD system.

In comparison, Porsche has the weakest engine of the lot, but the athletic driving experience offered by the Porsche is matched by none. The most powerful car in the segment is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class which makes around 449hp. The Porsche, even with its low output engine, manages to keep up with the competition in the acceleration department.
The Porsche Panamera's acceleration is not the best among the competition. It takes a full 6 seconds to hit the 0-60 mph mark, whereas the BMW 7 series and the Merc take 5.4 seconds and 4.8 seconds respectively to hit the 0-60 mph mark.
The quarter-mile comes up first for the S-Class at 11.1 seconds, then for the Panamera at 11.7 seconds and at last for the 7-series at 11.9 seconds. However, the Panamera boasts of the highest top speed at 180 mph. All in all, the S-Class has the best performance numbers.

In terms of braking, there was no data available for the Panamera as well as the S-Class. The BMW took 113 feet to stop, which is good. The BMW aso boasts of the largest front and rear brake rotors, at 14.7 inches and 14.5 inches. The smallest brakes sit on the Mercedes, at 13.2 inches front and 11.8 inches rear.
The handling on the Panamera can be defined by the engine you have. As you climb higher on the trims level, the handling just gets better and better. Of course, on the base trim itself, the handling is excellent. The chassis is superb, and can do a lot. The AWD system gives traction like a charm, and even the RWD sticks the car to the road like glue on paper. The handling is like a point and shoot thing: just turn it the way you want it to, and it'll oblige.
The steering is precise and turns on inputs. There is a connection between the car and the driver, matched only by exotic sports cars or supercars. The car is very planted in corners and inspires confidence to push it even more. At high speeds, the car is well-insulated, and the suspension takes care of everything the roads throw at you.
The 2016 Porsche Panamera offers a city MPG of 18 and a highway MPG of 28, which is quite impressive in its class. The smaller engine displacement in comparison to the competition certainly has an advantage in this. The Turbo trim returns less efficient mileages in the city and the highway, at 15 mpg and 24 mpg respectively. The Panamera also gets a fuel tank of 21.1 gallons, which is bigger than that of the BMW and similar to the Benz.

With its base engine, the Porsche Panamera easily outperforms its competition by a fairer margin. With its large fuel tank and greater mileage, the Porsche will easily have the best range. However, if you are buying a Porsche, worrying about the mileage shouldn’t be your business. The S-Class, base trim just falls behind the Panamera slightly, with a combined range of 443 miles and a combined mileage of 21 mpg. The worst performer in the fuel economy comes out to be the 7 Series with a combined mileage of 20, and the less fuel capacity does not help with the range as well.
The interior on the Porsche Panamera is fabulous. The cabin is super-stylish, and boasts of high-tech feaures and premium materials. There are a lot of flat surfaces, covered in soft materials. The Panamera's interior bears a resemblance to the Porsche layout, with a buttons-busy center layout that is not at all controversial. There are around 80 buttons on the inside of the Panamera, more than the 7 Series or even the S-Class. The wooden trim inserts, a biege color interior raditates luxury and comfort. Also, the cabin is very roomy.Â
Given how Porsche is Porsche, the Panamera can only be bought with the capacity to seat 4, and these 4 will be seated in maximum comfort and luxury. By opting for the Executive trims of the car, it is also possible to receive your Panamera with more rear leg-room. The sporty dynamics of the Panamera has been acquired by sacrificing a few things, and ground clearance is one such property, which can give the passengers a feeling of sitting low.

If you are looking for more space in the interior, then going with the 7 Series and the S-Class would be the better decision. This is because the interior dimensions of the Porsche are smaller in comparison to that of the competition. The S-Class is huge, and pure luxury that even the 7 Series can't match. Howver, the legroom on the 7 Series is the most among these three. Also, the rivals are 5 seaters. Some of the features in the interior are:
The infotainment unit offered with the Porsche Panamera definitely needs some getting used to. The center console is filled with buttons, and it can be confusing for someone new to it.
The infotainment system is loaded with features and will ensure the best experience while traveling in the Panamera. Porsche has offered a standard 11-speaker audio system for keeping the traveler entertained inside. Some major infotainment features are:

The car looks stunning from all angles. It follows Porsche's regular design language, but when that got transferred on to the 4-door sedan, the result was completely insane. The car looks low-slung, but the big doors ensure a comparatively easier entry and exit. However, when compared to the competition, the Porsche easily wins with a very engaging exterior aesthete. Its actually a matter of perception: some find the Panamera's rear very polarizing. The Panamera is a sedan, with a wagon styling, the rear similar to a hatchback and the lines of a sports car. The front shows the standard air intakes seen on other Porsche cars, along with the signature headlamps. From the side, you see the length of this car, and that's where things start getting a bit not welcome. The roofline's design does allow for a lot of rear room for passengers, but the curvature takes away some of the poise of the car. The rear again follows the Porsche styling, but the rear roofline reduces its appeal.
The dimensions of the Panamera are overall tiny when you take a look at the competition. It has the most width, but suffers from the short length and the lowered roof. It is the least heavy of the lot, weighing in at just 3902 lbs. This reduced proportions does shohw in terms of interior spacing.

The ground clearance of the Porsche is good at 4.7” but it is suggested to be careful with larger speed bumps. When comparing the curb weight of the cars on the table, S-Class from Mercedes comes out to be the heaviest at 4,773 lbs. The 7 Series and the S-Class are nearly equal in length, width and height. When it comes to wheelbase, its the 7 Series with the most at 126.4 inches. Some features on the Panamera's exterior are:
Reliability of the 2016 Panamera
Given the exotic and pricey nature of the Panamera, it hasn’t been rated by the NHTSA nor the IIHS. Still, Porsche cars have always been built with the highest of the standards and the best of materials. The car also comes loaded with multiple safety features, while having all the standard safety equipment. Some standout safety features available with the sedan are:
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the ultimate executive luxury sports car you can get. Compared to the Panamera, it has more powerful engines, with a decent economy and has the highest performance numbers. The interiors on the S-Class are much more premium than the Panamera's, and is better equipped as well.
The Panamera, however, is less expensive to own, and can be a family car as well. Both these cars have not been safety-rated, but the Panamera has had less complaints and fewer recalls compared to the S-Class.
The 2016 BMW 7 Series is similar to the Panamera in terms of performance, but does so with better interiors and more comfort. The BMW is more spacious and can fit more people as well. There is more cargo capacity, and more space in the second row as well. The BMW also has better ownership costs.
The Panamera however, is less expensive and more fuel efficient as well. The safety ratings of both these cars are not available, but in terms of recalls and complaints the BMW is better than the Panamera.
If you are out in the market looking for a luxury sedan that can be used to commute, run your chores in the city, and still have the oomph to run alongside your mates supercar, then the Panamera is exactly what you need. It looks super cool, has the dynamics good enough to make the driver fall in love over and over again, and still manages to offer a great MPG. Now that my friend is what we all deserve.
