Whether it's the gas engine or the diesel, the Touareg delivers ample power at every trim level, the base gas V-6 churns 280 HP with266 ft-lbs of torque. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic which makes the ride smooth and effortless.

The braking performance is average considering the last update was in 2011 the figures were striking back then but now it is easily outperformed by some of its newer rivals like the XC90.

The base gasoline V-6 makes 17/23/19 which is not the worst but not the best figures either. The real deal is the diesel powertrain that makes 21/29/24. It can also tow roughly around 7,000 pounds depending on the configuration.

However, Volkswagen admitted to cheating through emissions regulations which makes the TDI diesel version not the best choice when you have the likes of Volvo and the Acura.
