The braking performance is average considering the last update was in 2011 the figures were striking back then but now it is easily outperformed by some of its newer rivals like the XC90.
The base gasoline V-6 makes 17/23/19 which is not the worst but not the best figures either. The real deal is the diesel powertrain that makes 21/29/24. It can also tow roughly around 7,000 pounds depending on the configuration.

However, Volkswagen admitted to cheating through emissions regulations which makes the TDI diesel version not the best choice when you have the likes of Volvo and the Acura.
The Touareg's cabin is quiet and richly detailed, and it has plenty of space for five and their stuff. -The Car Connection
It lacks the bling and flashy stuff that a traditional luxury SUV would have instead the Touareg offers robust and solid built quality that feels premium when touched. The leather is high quality, the seats are comfortable and the cabin is quiet.

There is no third row so the space behind the rear seats is better than most three-row SUVs. If the rear seats are folded the total cargo space increases to 64 cubic feet.
From a design perspective, the modern Touareg fits in well with the current lineup of VW products. It's conservative, yet sophisticated, and its cabin is a stepand in some cases, several stepsabove other mainstream SUV competitors. -The Car Connection
One word that defines the Touareg is conservative. It's a vehicle made for people with simple taste but somehow this conservative looking SUV does not look boring, mainly because the market is flooded with flashy and bulbous looking SUVs and Crossovers.

The high seating position improves visibility and the Touareg even though has been styled conservatively looks aggressive sitting high off the ground at 7.9 inches.
Some of the safety features are-
2016 Volkswagen Touareg vs. 2016 Volvo XC90
The 2016 Volvo XC90 is a serious performer that is wooing everyone since its redesign this year. Both these vehicles offer luxurious cabins and boat-load of features. But the 2016 Touareg was refreshes back in 2011 as compared to the very recent redesign of the Volvo which eventually makes the Touareg outdated against the Volvo. In terms of looks both vehicles offer their unique styling.
2016 Volkswagen Touareg vs. 2016 Acura MDX
The 2016 Acura MDX is another rival from Japan that sells like hot cakes in the American Market. The MDX is firstly a crossover and after that a SUV. MDX has more utilitarian features like better cargo capacity and the inclusion of the spacious third row seats makes it a great choice for families. The Touareg offers better off-road ability than the MDX but let's be honest not many people who buy these vehicles actually go off-road.
The Touareg is a well-built SUV that does not draw much attention to itself because of the conservative looks. Instead of looks it offers a robust chassis, off road capability and a luxurious cabin with ample features. It neither excels nor lose at any category against its rivals.
It offers great-towing capability and ample cargo space but the lack of third row is a deal breaker for large families. This is a well-built SUV that is meant to go on adventures off-road and long road trips.
