The new Volvo XC60 comes with 14 trims and 16 configurations. But it is mainly based on three powertrains, an I-4, an I-5, and I-6 units respectively. Like any other SUV, you'll get to choose from an AWD or an FWD layout but the base trim doesn't get the option of an AWD though. Right from its base trim, the SUV comes loaded with a plethora of standard features and offers the excellent convenience that you would expect from a proper utility vehicle.

Some of the standard features include automatic headlights, foglights, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, rain-sensing automatic wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped fully adjustable steering wheel. As you move up the trim ladder, some of the add-on features that get included are a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, hands-free power liftgate, a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and ambient lighting for the interior.

The 2016 Volvo XC60 comes with three engine types along with seven states of tune. Let's have a look at the base motor and see how it fares against the competition. The base 2.0-liter turbocharged Inline-4 engine delivers 240 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission which offers seamless and quick shifts.

The refinement levels of the motor are decent and even under harsh acceleration the motor refuses to get vocal. The power delivery is strong and will suffice in day-to-day urban and highway driving needs. However, if you expect a sporty and lively performance and acceleration from the base motor, you might get a bit disheartened. The acceleration times are good though as per the segment standards and the acceleration prowess will be good enough for making quick overtakes out on the highways as well.

The 2016 Volvo XC60 comes with two drivetrain options, a front-wheel drive, and an all-wheel drive. The Infiniti QX50 is the most powerful one here with over 300 horsepower and a V6 motor under its hood followed by the Acura RDX with a slightly smaller V6 powertrain as well. The Lincoln MKC delivers equal horsepower but more torque than the XC60 but is slower to accelerate than the latter. The Volvo XC60 has the highest top speed though closely followed by the Lincoln MKC.

The 2016 Volvo XC60 delivers some impressive mileage figures considering the segment it belongs to. The SUV returns a mileage of 23 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined. The Lincoln MKC has an identical 2.0 Liter engine but it consumes much more fuel than the XC60. However, opting for the 6-cylinder engine with the all-wheel-drive layout will significantly be harsh on the economy figures. 

When being compared the Volvo XC60 emerges victorious. Offering the highest efficiency numbers it surpasses the Lincoln MKC, the Infiniti QX50, and the Acura RDX. The Infiniti QX50 offers the highest tank capacity in the segment followed by the Volvo. The Volvo XC60 with its fuel-efficient engine along with a high fuel tank capacity results in an impressive driving range of 426 miles in the city and 574 miles on the highway.

The Volvo having Swedish roots flaunts modern and inviting looks. The floating center stack makes the Volvo XC60 distinctive. It is also marked by the presence of comfortable front seats.
