Overall Rating
the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan has to be the best-looking sedan available in the market currently, especially in this price range. Oozing out Italian flare, this sedan is not only sporty and lively but quite practical and versatile as well.
It might not be a car that you have heard about a lot, nor it is something you have seen a lot, but the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan has to be the best-looking sedan available in the market currently. It is available on sale at an MSRP of $37,995 for the base variant. The car has that Italian-ness that luxury car owners crave these days. All this shows that this car is here to stay and compete with the likes of the Audi A4 Prestige, the Jaguar XE 25T R-Sport, and the Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic. The Alfa Romeo might be just a shade cheaper than its rivals, but when it comes to features, it has to be miles ahead. This could force potential buyers to dig in.
The base trim of the Alfa Romeo comes with features like a seat memory system, coupled with lumbar support and premium upholstery. However, the Ti variant is the one to go for as it is not much of a price difference, but it has things like a Touchscreen radio and reverse-parking sensors.

The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is available in two trim options tries to strike a balance between the two promising a good separation between the two trims. While the Base trim follows a strict approach towards the basic necessities, the latter offers a good blend of state-of-the-art amenities. Nevertheless, even the base trim is full of surprises.

The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sedan is an entirely new car from the one that was being made years before. This includes Giulia's very own infotainment system, personalized to entitle the uniqueness of this sedan along with a host of tailor-made toggle switches that give it a contemporary yet retro look. Apart from that, there is no change in the powertrain department, while the design now exudes a more sophisticated yet dapper look.
We Recommend
The base trim of the Alfa Romeo comes with features like a seat memory system, coupled with lumbar support and premium upholstery. However, the Ti variant is the one to go for as it is not much of a price difference, but it has things like a Touchscreen radio and reverse-parking sensors.
The Alfa Romeo made some bold performance statements about the Giulia, and from what we've experienced so far, it appears Alfa followed through. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sedan is powered by a 2.0-Liter Inline-4 cylinder engine that generates 280 hp at 5800rpm and 306 lb.-ft at 1400rpm. The power is transferred to the front wheels with the 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.
Along with that, there is an option to opt for the AWD setup which provides much better control over the Giulia. The 8-speed automatic transmission is quite smooth in operation and the powertrain provides a quick 0-60 mph acceleration.

Apparently, all four cars are powered by a similar 2.0-liter engine which generates appreciable torque and powers. All are placed quite strategically at a similar price range as well. However, the Guilia comes out with flying colors with the highest output in both respects. The Jaguar XE stands last with the least amount of power and torque figures.
As expected, the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia excels seemingly off the mark. A stunning power to weight ratio is the secret ingredient behind a time of just 5.1 seconds from 0-60 MPH. This too has been restricted by the brand in the wake of few guidelines for passenger cars. Overall, the acceleration of the Alfa Romeo is smooth and is a peach to drive if you leave out the noise while driving.

Alfa Romeo takes 5.1 seconds to reach 60mph from a standstill. In this particular scenario, the Alfa Romeo is the clear winner, and that too by a clear margin. The Audi A4 though is not too far behind. The Jaguar XE lags behind with a 0-60 mph acceleration in 8.8-seconds which is more than 3 seconds slower than the Giulia.
The Giulia's easy to handle steering, and peppy handling makes it a pleasurable experience. It is nimble on the turns, something its rivals lag. In base rear-drive form or the slightly tauter Ti versions in either rear- or optional all-wheel drive, the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia provides spirited handling and a relaxed ride thanks to its 50:50 weight distribution and a willing 280-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The smooth-shifting 8-speed torque-converter automatic provides quick shifts whether left to its own devices or controlled via steering-column-mounted paddles.
As mentioned, the ride quality is a bit noisy, specifically on a bad road. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia does soar over in terms of handling and steering when compared with others. Also, one thing which could be done to make the cabin less noisy is to replace the flat tires with more conventional ones. Alfa’s changeable driving-mode system offers three settings: Dynamic, Normal, and Advanced Efficiency. The beauty is that there is a discernible effect at each step where the steering effort, throttle input, and even the exhaust note get progressively aggressive. The sedan has a bonus Race mode to minimize stability-control intervention.
As fast as any car is, it is only good if complemented with a strong braking system. Fortunately, the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia has brakes that match its acceleration performance. Despite being one of the heaviest cars in this segment, the brakes results are pretty decent.
Unlike many other vehicles of its time, the pedal remains consistent throughout the life, but the brakes may require service quite often. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia takes around 123 feet to get to a standstill from 60 mph which is not the best in this class.

There is a surprise in store here, as the Audi A4 is the fastest to stop at just 105 feet, while the Alfa Romeo, as expected with its heavyweight, takes a little longer. Even the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 is better at this than the Giulia with a stopping distance of 109 feet. The 2017 Jaguar XE matches the braking performance of Alfa Romeo Giulia with a braking distance of 123 feet.
How do you feel about tagging the 2017 Alfa Romeo Guilia with the word “economical”? Sounds ironic, doesn’t it? Turns out you are right. Being one of the heaviest amongst the rivals, the Alfa Romeo Giulia shows a little extravagant side. However, it still manages to drive longer than many of its opulent rivals. In words and figures, it gives some staggering figures in terms of fuel economy with 24 MPG in the city and that of 33 on the highway.

The fuel economy of the Alfa Romeo Giulia slightly matches with the 2017 Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz C300. While the Jaguar XE, like the other parameters, is quite far behind here too. In all three terrains, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is the most economical of the lot.
The interior of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia will vary greatly, depending on trim level. The level of opulence in the Alfa Romeo would not be the same as that of the other car makers. The material used for the interiors includes hard plastics, something you don't generally relate with an Italian brand, however affordable it may be. The styling is also subdued, however, the built quality still makes it look premium and snazzy. The seats are electronically powered, providing ample support to the driver. They are made of premium leather upholstery.
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is a two-row cruiser that accommodates 5 people. It provides heated and cooled seating as well. The passenger rear seats are also electrically powered. The driver's seat has memory storage as well to adjust the seat as per your requirement on its own. The type of seats makes the biggest difference when it comes to driving position or getting in and out. We found the rear seat to be tight on legroom, and all the controls lacked a little bit of quality heft we expect in the class.

All the vehicles in this comparison can accommodate up to 5 passengers in total. The 2017 Audi A4 interior provides comparatively better spacing and almost matches that of the Alfa Romeo Giulia. The Mercedes-Benz C300 lacks in terms of front-row headroom. Overall all the vehicles get a premium interior and thus an overall nice place to be in. The interiors of the Alfa Romeo Giulia include;
Coming standard with the 2017 Alfa Romeo Guilia is a 6.5-inch touchscreen that manages the entire entertainment bucket list. This, however, can be upgraded to an 8.0-inch system in the higher trim. However, other features will remain the same. The Alfa Romeo's new infotainment system is easy to use, once you clear the first curve.
It provides a premium sound system and a smart integration device. Add to that a set of 2 LCD monitors in the front, and it provides a great package. Here is a list of the interior features that are available with the 2017 Alfa Romeo Guilia:
Buying a sedan always buys you a decent trunk. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan has a spacious trunk. There is no load lip to lift up the baggage. The storage spaces are excellent with a 12V socket as well. The rear seats are foldable, leading to some extra room. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia offers a cargo capacity of 13 cubic feet, which is really good.

The 2017 Audi A4 and Alfa Romeo Giulia have the same cargo volume of 13 cubic feet, whereas the segment leader Jaguar XEÂ has a trunk volume of 14.7 cubic feet. The Mercedes-Benz C300 is also not so far behind Audi and Alfa Romeo with just 12.6 cu-ft. of boot space.
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia has very new exterior styling. It's distinctly Italian, and it's definitely sexy. The front has a gaping grille with an inverted triangle in the center flaunted by huge air intakes on its sides. The headlamps are uniquely shaped, and the LED DRLs give it a distinct look.
The side has a sharp character line from the front fender to the rear doors. The tail lamps at the rear are also LED units and are very sleek. The car looks apart and will definitely catch eyes as there is something new to see from the sea of German mid-sized sedans.

Here again, the Alfa Romeo has the best dimensions amongst its rivals, leading to lots of space in the cabin, with loads of knee room. The wheelbase of the Alfa Romeo is pretty good too. In fact, all four cars have an identical wheelbase of around 111 inches. Other exterior features of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Guilan include:
In the United States, occupant safety is given utmost importance, and hence, even for vehicles that are not being made in the country, manufacturers are bound to adhere to strict rules for safety. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sedan has been tested by IIHS, and it has received 'Good' safety ratings in most of the segments. However, it has not been tested by NHTSA, but given the number of standard safety features you get, the car is a pretty safe one for its occupants. Of course, there is more security if you are willing to pay for it. The various safety features in the Alfa Romeo Giulia are:
The 2017 Audi A4 also comes with an entry-level luxury price, but you wouldn't know it based on its interior. It does come with features like the panoramic sunroof, which does not come as standard in the Giulia. Unlike the Giulia, the A4 has sprightly handling without forgoing a comfortable ride.
Both models have a powerful engine lineup and similar fuel efficiency, but the A4's rear seats are a little roomier. However, if you look at practicality, the Alfa Romeo scores on that part, making it a clear winner here.
It has to be said that the 2017 Jaguar XE is no match for the Alfa Romeo. Sans the cargo capacity, you name the parameter and the Giulia is a clear winner. So, talk about the review, it is as straightforward as it gets, the Giulia is a clear winner here.
The fight between the Giulia and the Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic goes right down to the wire. Both generate almost equal figures in the engine capacity and the fuel economy. The cargo capacity is also almost equal. Also, Mercedes-Benz gives a far more luxurious experience than the Alfa Romeo, making it a certain winner here.
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is on the lowest price rung of the brand. It pulls in some benefits from its higher-priced brethren (such as real wood trim and a quiet ride), but it is noticeably less refined than the Germans. Still, the Giulia remains a very fun car to drive with a lively engine and great handling. It looks great, and it is Italian. It's a sedan from Alfa Romeo the world had been waiting for so long to challenge the Germans, and it really does give a tough time to the Germans. It's great value for what it is, and it's a much welcome change in this German-dominated midsize sedan market. If you wish to stand out, the Alfa Romeo Guilan is your best choice.
