Overall Rating
The compact Buick Verano offers some distinct and elegant styling, as well as spacious interiors. The car is powered by a naturally aspirated inline-4 engine and has some brilliant fuel economy.
The Buick Verano is a comparatively older sedan by modern standards. Though it has all the technology and specs to be competitive in the lineup. The car shares its platform with an older variant of the Chevrolet Cruze, though overall its internals are all quite aged. Buick offers the Verano at a rather affordable price tag, which makes it highly relevant in the current market. The car goes up against the likes of the Audi A3 Premium, the Acura ILX, and the BMW 320i.
Although the base variant of the new Buick Verano contains all the necessary and some optional features, usually seen in higher-end cars, We would recommend going for the Sport Touring variant, as it offers some necessities like Climate Control and Keyless entry amongst others which prove to be quite useful and enhance the overall experience.

We Recommend
Although the base variant of the new Buick Verano contains all the necessary and some optional features, usually seen in higher-end cars, We would recommend going for the Sport Touring variant, as it offers some necessities like Climate Control and Keyless entry amongst others which prove to be quite useful and enhance the overall experience.
Under its hood, the 2017 Buick Verano sedan comes equipped with a 2.4L inline 4-cyl motor which churns out 180 hp along with 171 lb-ft of torque from its belly. Unlike its German rivals, the Verano feels underwhelming but still boasts enough power to make it great for daily driving. The engine is adequately powered, feels punchy but lacks the refinement which its German rivals offer.
The 6-speed transmission is happy to quick shift and the overall refinement feels to be much higher than what most sedans currently on the road offer. Overall even though it is an FWD car, it is quite well powered.

Most of the cars in the segment feel comparably powered. The Acura ILX comes out at the top with its 201 horsepower. The BMW also offers considerable performance and a high degree of refinement. The BMW 320i is the only car in the lineup that comes standard with an AWD.
The Verano has the oldest platform on the lineup. The heavy platform makes it the slowest car in the competition to reach 60 mph. The Buick takes 8.1 seconds to reach 60 mph, and 16.1 seconds to get to the quarter-mile. The naturally aspirated engine coupled with the traditional 6-speed automatic gearbox is responsible for its sluggish response.

The newer naturally aspirated engine isn't as great as showing midrange speed, or highway character. Though the motor itself is rather capable to get the car going. The car has a quick-shifting transmission that takes it on the move quite efficiently. The steering itself is rather precise and responsive, though it is a bit on the soft and comfortable side. Long journeys in the car also seem rather comfortable.
The ride quality of the sedan is at par with most other competitors. The cabin has been sufficiently muted to allow for an executive feel. The car does have a bit of body roll around corners, though it is completely manageable.
The Verano overall has a rather heavy frame and smaller brakes. The brake pedal feels great and is rather reliable and responsive, though most other competitors come to a halt quicker. The Buick Verano has 11.8-inch rotors at the front, and 11.5-inch ones at the back. It takes 122 feet to come to half from 60 mph.

The Audi is the quickest to stop here, taking just over 111 ft. The other three cars in the segment seem more or less the same. Though the Verano has the smallest brakes in the competition, and also the largest curb weight.
The Verano has a rather old and unrefined motor. It also has a rather heavy chassis, which makes it rather Fuel thirsty, and it shows here with a city mpg of 21 and that of 31 on the highway. The Verano comes with a 15.6-gallon fuel tank.

Most other motors on the lineup are turbocharged. The high revving motor on the Acura inherited from Honda is also rather efficient in its consumption. The Buick though has a large fuel tank, which gives it the second-highest range barring the BMW 320i.
The interiors in the Buick Verano are well crafted and something which might bring a much more accomplished brand to shame. The cabin has brilliant sound deadening, which is a welcome addition. Although compact from the outside, the cabin space is pretty big for decent-sized adults. The buttons and toggles on the console also have a nice feel to them.
The 2017 Buick Verano Sedan is a two-row cruiser that accommodates 5 people. The seats are upholstered with well-cut and tailored leather. The front seats are outstandingly designed for longer journeys. The legroom and even the headroom in the rear rows are also rather great.

The seats are electronically powered providing ample support to the driver. They are made of premium leather upholstery. Add to that leather-wrapped steering wheel that can be adjusted to the preference and provides all wheels steering drive. The interiors of the 2017 Buick Verano Sedan include;
The basic Verano, the 1SV, gets dual-zone climate control, OnStar Services, 4G LTE WiFi, and a 6-speaker sound system. The Sport Touring trim adds the 7-inch IntelliLink touchscreen display and Satellite Radio. The interface seems highly modern and easy to use. It also fits well with the interiors of the car. Some standout infotainment features are:
The 2017 Buick Verano Sedan has the best trunk in the segment, that too by a big margin. There is no load lip to lift the baggage. The storage spaces are excellent with a 12V socket as well. The rear seats are foldable allowing for even more storage.

With a class-leading 14.3 ft of space, the Buick Verano is top-notch in this regard as all the others are way behind in this regard. The Audi and the Acura are at 12.3 ft, while the much more famous BMW 320i is at 13 ft.
The compact looking Buick Verano is high on the style quotient with its good looks and well-formed lines and exterior accents. The car also has the largest profile in the compact sedan segment. The headlamps are modernized and feature LED DRLs as well as projector lamps.
The heaviest Buick Verano also has the best dimensions. Though these directly result in great cabin space. The Verano is the longest car in the competition, though it does also have the smallest wheelbase.

Here again, the Buick Verano has the best dimensions amongst its rivals, leading to lots of space in the cabin. It is the longest car in the lineup, though the wheelbase is middling. The Buick Verano is also the heaviest car in the segment, owing to its older platform. Some of the exterior features include:
The IIHS is yet to test the Buick Verano in their crash tests, though the NHTSA has granted the car a 5-star overall rating. The car offers brilliant rigidity and long term reliability. Buick also goes to great lengths to include some added tech and features in the car to improve the safety aspect. The various safety features in the 2017 Buick Verano Sedan are stated below:
Priced significantly cheaper than the Audi A3, the Buick Verano has given the Audi A3 a serious run for its money. The Buick offers comparable power to the Audi. Though the modernization of the latter takes it much ahead in terms of drivability.
The Buick has better storage space and usability features. Though the Audi is pricier, the high degree of modernization on the car makes it the better choice in the consideration.
Both the underdogs, the Buick Verano and the Acura ILX are pretty much comparable in every regard. Though they have identical displacement, the Honda motor on the Acura is much higher revving and fuel-efficient.
The Acura is highly modernized and features loads of features and tech to give it a brilliant driving experience. Barring the space offered in the cabin as well as the trunk, the Acura is the clear winner here.
The car is well designed, though it cannot compare to the refinement featured on the BMW 320i. The latter is also the only car with an RWD, and also has the best drivability in the segment.
The BMW costs a hefty premium more than the Verano, though it does offer value for money. Overall the BMW 320i is the better pick as compared to the Verano.
In terms of quality, this car is right up there with the best with a best in class engine with premium comfort and handling amongst other things. The Buick Verano offers ample storage space and usability. The cabin though is a bit congested at the rear, and the motor is rather unrefined and sluggish in operation. The 2.4L engine also cannot match the refinement levels of modern motors. If you are looking for a rather inexpensive luxury sedan, with great usability and space the Buick is worth consideration.
