Overall Rating
Starting at $32,340, the 2017 Chrysler 300 is an RWD sedan powered by a 3.6L V6 engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Feature-rich even in the base model, the car comprises of 5 different trims, with an optional V8 for all except base trim.
Chrysler takes forward the legacy of a big American luxury sedan with the handsome 2017 Chrysler 300. Since 300's inception in 2005, the marquee has revised and improved many features, while sticking to its original design elements. While this seems like a conventional method, it makes them look less daring. Even for this year, the car has received minor upgrades, most of them on the interior and pretty relevant in these times.
The Chrysler 300 can appeal to a wide spectrum of customers, however the top trim can be called as expensive with a $45k+ value. That is the best 300 to buy, with all its luxuries and the roaring V6 under the hood. This car is a family sedan, and it is so with a bold and big design which oozes "American" in every possible way. On the inside, the 300 is one of the most comfortable family sedans you can get today. The quiet cabin of the 300 also makes it a great daily driver as well.
The Chrysler 300C Platinum might overshoot budgets for many buyers but the bold styling and the feature-loaded nature of the top-spec trim of the Chrysler 300 is the one that your heart will set on. Although the lower variants offer a great value, the 300C Platinum takes the experience to a whole different level.

Coming standard with a RWD with an optional AWD, the Chrysler 300 comes in 4 different trims, namely the 300 Limited at $32,340, the 300S at $35,675, the 300C at $38,635, and the 300C Platinum at $42,770. While 8-speed automatic transmission and V6 engine are standard on all models, you can choose an optional 5.7L V8 Hemi engine for the RWD upper trims. Chrysler touts the 300 as a luxury sedan. Despite it serving as the base model, the 300 Limited offers plenty of standard features such as 18-inch aluminum wheels, Nappa leather seats and steering, heated mirrors, and one of the best infotainment systems in the market.

This luxury sedan is powered by a 3.6L V6 engine under the hood mated to an 8-speed transmission. The engine churns out 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine is powerful enough to commute, while the transmission carries out its duties smoothly and with ease. The power is sent to the rear wheel as standard, with an option for an all-wheel-drive setup. Want that extra oomph factor? Switch to V8, which is available only as optional from 300S and higher.

Amongst the competition, the Buick LaCrosse offers the most powerful powertrain of 310hp and 268 lb-ft of torque in this field with the Maxima a close second. The Kia and Chrysler have similar power, with the latter leading by mere single-digit figures, leading to a tad better acceleration as well. All the three rivals cars are excellent handlers, and offer a very compsed ride quality as well when compared to the Chrysler 300.
Acceleration remains a deciding factor for a lot of people buying a sedan in this segment, but family sedans don't really look at accelereation as a main point. Not the same with this American brute. The V6 of Chrysler 300 with 260 lb-ft of torque reaches from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds, while completes the quarter-mile in 15 seconds flat. While this is no stallion on a racecourse, it isn't a mule either. For a car weighing 4,029 pounds, it is a laudable feat.

The Buick LaCrosse and the Kia Cadenza do the 0-60 mph run in 6.5 secconds as well. The Nissan Maxima gets the 0-60 mph job done in 5.8 seconds while quarter-mile is complete in 14.3 seconds, which is the fastest amongst the lot, clinching the top spot for the quickest car in this field. When comparing the top speed of the sedans, Chrysler turns out to be the fastest at 157 mph. The Buick, along with the Cadenza, drops behind the 300. The Nissan has the least top speed.
The handling on the Chrysler 300 is a confused soul. Get on the throttle, and you get to feel how much it begins to weave on high speeds, springing instability. On the other hand, lower speeds allow the steering to be quick, responsive, and nearly effortless to maneuver. Undesirably, the soft suspension setting rocks the car with a disappointing body roll. For a more sporty feel, the 300S is the go-to trim. Compared to the 2016 model, the overall handling of the car feels similar, even trim-wise.
Braking on the 300 is quite satisfactory. Under panic brake test from 60-0 mph, it takes 120 feet to come to a standstill, being in line with the other large sedans and remarkable for its weight. The 12.6-inch all-round brake rotors do a great job for the over 4,000 lbs car and are pretty progressive in nature.

Aside from the Kia which is at par with the Chrysler in terms of braking distance, the Maxima takes longer at 125 to come to a standstill. The Kia Cadenza has the smallest brake rotors while the Maxima is the lightest of them all. The braking distance of Buick LaCrosse is unavailable for comparison in the segment.
To tell about the 300's fuel economy by putting it in figures, the offered 19 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and a combined 23 mpg are below average in the segment. The large 18.5-gallon gas tank in the Chrysler 300 aids in achieving a driving range of over 400 miles of combined driving on a single tank of gas. Another point to note is the sedan does not require premium fuel.

The competition between these four cars is pretty tough, although it seems that the Buick LaCrosse is the winner here. This car returns the best city and highway economies among the four cars, although it does suffer in range. The Maxima follows right behind it, with its 25 mpg combined fuel economy although it should be mentioned that it needs premium fuel. The Kia returns better fuel economy than the Chrysler, except for highways, where the 300 leads it by 2 mpg. The range is the best on the Maxima, which is followed by the 300, while the Buick has the shortest driving range.
Big on the outside and the inside, it is easily noticeable just how spacious and massive the cabin is. Elegantly designed, the seats are wrapped with Nappa leather with high materials used in every single detail seen to the eye. Also, it is worthy to note just how quiet it is inside. In the middle of the dashboard is located the Uconnect 8.4" infotainment system, one of the best systems available in the market.Â
"Comfortable, elegant, and spacious", three words that seem absolutely evident once inside the cabin. You're welcomed by generous legroom and headspace on both rear and front seats. 5 people are touted to fit inside the sedan, and indeed they can fit in the sedan with comfort and ease. The rich materials infused with a simplistic approach used in the interior delivers exactly what Chrysler intended when they touted this car as a luxury sedan.

The 8.4" Uconnect Infotainment system is hailed as one of the best infotainment systems in the market. It is commendable for its simple design interface, snappy performance, and ease of usage. For the 2017 model, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay have become standard features.
The SiriusXM satellite radio is also standard but comes under a one-year free trial deal. Other standard noteworthy features include Bluetooth audio, auxiliary input, and USB inputs. Optional features include navigation, voice recognition, and real-time weather and traffic. Few key features include-
Fitting in cargo in this sedan won't seem like a hassle as it offers a generous 16.3 cubic feet of space, which is enough to haul a weekend's worth of luggage for all its passengers. One can also fold down the rear seats to make use of the additional cargo space when needed, but you would not want to damage the exquisite upholstery of your luxury sedan.Â

The Cadenza can haul similar cargo volume as that of the Chrysler 300, whereas the Buick and the Nissan have less space in their trunks. The Maxima has the lowest capacity here but the difference isn’t that great with respect to what others have on offer. If we have to place them in the right order, Chrysler is followed by Kia, Buick, and Nissan.
A distinctive wide, imposing body with hardlines runs throughout the 4 door sedan. Flanked by LED headlamps on either side, the front fascia incorporates a large aggressive grille with a shiny, silver Chrysler badge in the middle.
Sportily elegant to say the least, the beauty of the car lies in its ability to exhibit the same without the need for extra jazz or the sort. The 18-inch alloy rims complement the style and suave of the Chrysler 300 and also give a bold side profile to the car.

The Chrysler 300 is the longest, widest, tallest, and the heaviest car in this comparison. It also offers the best in class wheelbase but lacks a lot in the ground clearance department. The Kia Cadenza offers the highest ground clearance, while the Nissan Maxima has a marginally higher ground clearance than that of the Chrysler. Major exterior highlights of the sedan include-
The NHTSA has rated the Chrysler 300 with an overall rating of 4-stars out of the possible 5-stars in their crash test, while the IIHS has rated the car as ‘Good’ in most aspects of their crash tests. This implies that the Chrysler 300 is a well built and strong car and a safe haven for you and your loved ones. The Chrysler 300 is offered with many safety and convenience features to achieve such ratings, and highlights of those features are listed below.
The Buick LaCrosse comes fully redesigned for the 2017 model. Driven by a similar 3.6L V6 engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the LaCrosse manages to deliver an evident balance between performance and comfort. The LaCrosse offers better fuel economy, engine performance, and a better safety rating, though cargo space is a tad better on the Chrysler 300.
An optional V8 is available for the Chrysler 300 when you further move up the trims but the Buick sticks to a V6 throughout. Costing just about the same, the Buick delivers a whole lot more than the Chrysler for the base model
The Nissan Maxima is touted by the manufacturer as a four-door sports car. Under the hood, you'd find a 3.5L V6 which boasts 300 hp and 268 lb.-ft of torque and is mated to a CVT transmission. Both the vehicles offer many similar features and premium space at an affordable price, though the Chrysler offers better cargo volume and the Maxima better fuel economy.
Unlike the Chrysler 300, the base model offers a plethora of standard features. The biggest advantage the American marquee offers is a traction-enhanced AWD, which is absent on the Nissan Maxima. Also, the option to select a V8 engine on higher trims for the Chrysler makes it a more tempting offer for the enthusiasts. Although at $32,910, the Nissan Maxima is a great alternative to the Chrysler 300.
Redesigned for the 2017 model, the Kia Cadenza comes with a more elegant and contemporary design and a re-tuned engine for more mpg. Powering the sedan is a 3.3L V6 mated to an 8-speed automatic, which churns out 290 hp and 253 lb.ft of torque. The powertrain performs similar to the Chrysler 300 whilst being efficient on fuel.
Both the cars offer seating for 5 passengers and almost the same cargo volume. Priced lesser at $31,990, the Kia Cadenza sorts out many drawbacks found in the Chrysler 300, making it a much better package than its American rival.
The Chrysler 300 gets more done than it intends. The 3.6L V6 in the 300 Limited is quite an eyebrow-raiser; it looks like it almost manages to even with its rivals but then falls short by a small margin. The roomy interior offers a massive cabin and elegant design with leather seats and comfortable seating. A user-friendly intuitive infotainment system remains one of Chrysler's strengths with a plethora of standard features remaining a costly affair on other cars. However one of the biggest disadvantages is its safety rating, which for a car in this class seems average. On the whole, at $32,340, it checks off most of the right boxes with a very minimal feeling of improvement if any.
