Overall Rating
The Hyundai Azera Sedan is a mid-range, full-size luxury family sedan and for the last 5 years since its debut in the year 2012, this sedan has got quite a reputation. The 2017 Hyundai Azera is the new refreshed model with some design and tech upgrades, it still has the same refined powertrain, highly detailed exteriors, comfortable quiet interiors, and impressive fuel economy.

The 2017 Hyundai Azera offers a 3.3L V6 engine with a 6-speed automatic and a front-wheel drive train with a base price tag of $34,100. This sedan has practical use in day to day life and is designed for commuting in the most efficient and ergonomic way.
We believe that the base Hyundai Azera model is one to go for. No matter, there are more features available with the Limited trim, but the base trim is value for money. You can literally save thousands of bucks by excluding features like power rear sunshades, LED fog lights, and a panoramic sunroof.

You can literally save thousands of bucks by excluding features like power rear sunshades, LED fog lights, and a panoramic sunroof.
The 2017 Hyundai Azera features a 3.3L V6 engine that produces 293 hp and 255 ft.-lbs. of torque. This 6-cylinder powerhouse is paired with a SHIFTRONIC 6-speed automatic transmission and a front-wheel drivetrain.
Well, no doubt that the engine is powerful and it accelerates fast as well, and having a SHIFTRONIC transmission, you get a manual mode with a front-wheel drivetrain.

All that power is enough to satisfy most of the drivers but it still lacks the fun. Moving up to the competition, there is not much difference in the numbers as the 2017 Chevrolet Impala Premium is the best in the class with a power output of 305 hp. Whereas the Kia Cadenza generates the least power of 290 hp. As for the Hyundai, it has a great power output as well with 300 hp.
The Azera is an easy-going calm driving sedan and it does not offer that level of performance you expect from a V6 but it got quite a punch for a full-size family 4dr sedan.
The Hyundai Azera races from 0-60 mph in 6.2 sec and can do a quarter-mile in 15 sec. Well having a manual shift does make driving a bit fun though.

The Hyundai Azera is not the best when it comes to competition. The Nissan Maxima 3.5 SV featuring a 300hp V6 hits 0-60 in just 5.6 sec followed by the Chevrolet Impala Premium at 5.9 sec. Even if you consider the numbers there is not much difference between the powerhouses but in the case of performance, they have a different story.
The Hyundai Azera is an easy-going sedan, it has a front-wheel drivetrain with a 6-speed automatic along with power steering and cruise control. Well, in terms of handling, it is quite precise and responsive, offers smooth cornering and a hassle-free city ride. The manual mode is also available to make the ride a bit livelier.
Well, the Azera has a lot to impress when it comes to visibility, ride quality, comfort and is a good companion for long-distance traveling as well, but it lacks the punch or thrill of having a V6 and is not that impressive when it comes to vehicle dynamics.
The Hyundai Azera 4dr Sedan features a 12.6 inch ventilated front and 11.2-inch solid rear disc brakes along with stability control, traction control, and emergency braking assist. The Hyundai Azera weighs 3,684 lbs, and for a calm powerhouse, it has quite an effective braking system. Compared to the competition it's not the best but not the least as well.

All of the vehicles in the comparison have a similar brake setup with 12.6 inches in front, while the Impala has the biggest brak at the rear. The Impala and the Kia Cadenza has the best braking distance of 120 ft from 60 mph. It is followed by the Nissan Maxima, which takes 123 ft to come to a standstill from 60 mph.
The Azera features a 3.3L V6, and V6 are not good in terms of fuel efficiency but the Azera manages to offer a handsome mileage of 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with a combined mileage of 23 mpg. Well, the fuel economy does vary depending on several factors but it is still impressive.

The Azera is pretty efficient but it is not the best in the class when it comes to fuel efficiency, as the Nissan Maxima again leads the segment offering a combined mileage of 25 mpg followed by the Hyundai Azera and Kia Cadenza with a combined mileage of 23 mpg and 22 mpg respectively.
The Azera is a mid-range 4dr luxury sedan that can accommodate 5 people. Well, the rear seats get a bit tight if you have 3 adults, but you won't be complaining about the headroom or the legroom. As far as the design goes, it is simple, modern, luxurious, and quite detailed.
If we compare the interior spacing of the competitors, the Hyundai and Kia have the best headroom and legroom in the front. But the rest two are not far behind, and all of these vehicles provide generous space for all the passengers inside the cabin.Â

The Azera offers a standard cargo capacity of 16.3 cubic feet, which is sufficient enough for a car of this size considering the spacious interiors. The Azera does feature split-folding rear seats. Well, you do get a spare tire for the higher trim. In terms of competition, the Azera offers the second best cargo capacity as the Chevrolet Impala takes the lead.

The Kia Cadenza has a similar cargo volume as that of the Hyundai Azera where Hyundai takes a lead by a margin of just 0.3 cubic feet by offering 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space.Â
The Hyundai Azera has an aerodynamic body with a lot of detail. There is not much change in the style compared to last year's model but it still looks totally refreshed, and that is an advantage of having a timeless body design.
It features the standard Azera grille with halogen lights, curvy side profile, and bold rear with dual exhaust.

The Azera is the second heaviest vehicle in comparison after the Chevy Impala, weighing at 3,684 pounds. The Impala is the longest and tallest of them all, while the Kia is the widest. The Impala again has the highest ground clearance of 7.1 inches, while the rest of all of them have a similar ground clearance of around 5.3 inches. Here are some of the exterior features available in the 2017 Hyundai Azera:
The NHTSA has not tested the 2017 Hyundai Azera, but the IIHS has given a ‘Good’ rating for all the segments for the Azera. The Hyundai Azera offers the same safety features as a standard family sedan, and you don't get much even if you move to higher tiers. The Azera comes standard with dual front and rear-side mounted airbags with passenger airbag occupant sensing deactivation. It has small features like daytime running lights, engine immobilizer, tire pressure monitor, and fog lights. Other major safety features include-
Both the 2017 Azera and the Kia Cadenza are powered with a 3.3L V6 engine. With the 6-speed automatic transmission, the Azera seems to be far better than the Cadenza's 8-speed automatic transmission. Overall, the Azera is great at handling and driving around corners.
For this price, the standard features available with the 2017 Azera is completely justified while some important features are missing on the Kia Cadenza. In fact, you need to pay extra to get the driver awareness system in the Cadenza. All in all, the 2017 Hyundai Azera is a luxury cum performance car. The difference in standard features makes the Azera right pick here.
The Nissan Maxima 3.5 SV 4dr is actually the most insane car in this bracket. With a price tag of $34,890, the Maxima features a 3.5 V6 that produces 300hp and offers the best in class performance.
Well the Maxima SV is actually the best in class sedan and even in the head-on comparison, the Maxima has a better powerhouse, better performance, and better fuel efficiency. It just has a bit smaller body and a smaller cargo area. Other than that, the maxima exceeds the Azera even in interior styling, comfort, and options and trim levels.
The Chevrolet Impala Premium 4dr is a modern luxury sedan just like the Azera. It has bold styling, a classy interior, and a price tag of $35,845, which makes it the most costlier in the whole segment.
Well, the Impala is better than the Azera in many aspects, it has the most powerful engine, better performance, acceptable fuel efficiency, bigger cargo space with a huge body. On head-on comparison, the only aspect Hyundai Azera is better than the Impala Premium is the slightly better fuel economy.
The Hyundai Azera is the most cost-efficient vehicle in this whole segment. It has awesome practicality, low cost of ownership is quite powerful, offers impressive fuel economy, has a bigger boot, stylish exterior, and modern well-loaded interior. The Azera stands up to the standards of a mid-range luxury sedan but is not the best when it comes to competition.
The lack of vehicle dynamics, trim levels, and options sure put a major drawback. But its refined powerhouse, smooth rides, comfortable interiors, well-loaded infotainment system, hi-end safety system, as well as long-range capability, are what makes it really special in its class. It might not be a winner on paper, but it's the true winner on roads.
