Overall Rating
Infiniti has made a bold move by driving in the QX30 into a segment where the German cars sell like hotcakes. To take on the Germans, Infiniti has banked on technology and has loaded this crossover with features.
The Infiniti QX30 is an entry-level subcompact luxury SUV. In fact, the QX30 is a crossover between an SUV and a hatchback with dominant genes of an SUV and recessive genes of a hatchback. With the QX30, Infiniti aims to take on its German rivals like the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, and the Mercedes Benz GLA. So how good is the QX30 and how well does it perform against the German heavyweights? We will find that out in this review
If you wish to have the superiority of the AWD system, we would recommend you to go for the Luxury trim but the Sport trim offers the best styling cues. The most value for money proposition would be the Luxury since it offers a lot of practical features along with the AWD system as an option.

The QX30 uses a 2-liter, inline 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine. The engine churns out 208 horsepower and delivers a solid 258 lb.-ft of torque. The engine comes mated to a buttery-smooth 7-speed automatic transmission. Power is either sent to the front wheels or you can ask Infiniti to direct it to all four wheels.

At 228 horsepower, the BMW X1 sDrive 28i is the only car that makes more power than the Infiniti. The Mercedes Benz GLA 250 makes 208 HP which is equal to the Infiniti. The Audi Q3 Premium, on the other hand, falls 8 horsepower short of the Infiniti QX30.
The Infiniti QX30 has pretty impressive acceleration figures for an entry-level luxury crossover. The QX30 can shoot itself from rest to 60 MPH in just 6.3 seconds. Take the QX30 to a drag strip and it will cover the quarter-mile distance in just 14.9 seconds.

The QX30 is the fastest car in the lot. In fact, it beats all its rivals by quite a good margin. Despite having a 12 hp advantage over the Infiniti, the BMW X1 fails to beat the QX30 in terms of acceleration timings. The X1 does a 0-60 MPH in 6.6 seconds and hits the quarter-mile mark in 15.2 seconds. The Mercedes Benz GLA 250 does a 0-60 MPH in 7.2 seconds and covers the quarter-mile distance in 15.3 seconds. The Audi Q3 happens to be the slowest car of the car and does a 0-60 MPH in 8.2 seconds and hits the quarter-mile mark in 16.1 seconds.
Although the QX30 is a crossover, it drives and handles pretty much like a hatchback. The steering is sharp and offers good feedback. Moreover, the car is always ready to dive into corners and high-speed cornering is a cakewalk. The compact dimensions also makes it easy to maneuver the vehicle through tight spots and also during bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Ride quality is top-notch and is something you would expect from a proper luxury car. The suspensions are smartly tuned and soak in all the bumps and potholes. Being a tall car, body roll during cornering is pretty evident during high-speed cornering but you can still live with it
For every powerful car, it must be equipped with a strong set of brakes. A strong set of brakes gives you the confidence to exploit every single horsepower of your engine. The Infiniti QX30 rather gets quite a large set of brakes. Upfront, the QX30 gets 12.6 inches diameter discs and at the rear, it gets 11.6 inches diameter discs.
The QX30 can come to a standstill at a distance of 106 feet when the brakes are slammed at 60 MPH.

Only the BMW X1 gets the larger set of brakes and yet it fails to beat the QX30 in terms of braking. The BMW stops at a distance of 112 feet when you step on the brake pedal while driving at 60 MPH. The Mercedes has the poorest braking stats and comes to a halt at a distance of 120 feet from 60 MPH while the Audi stops at a distance of 108 feet. The Infiniti has the braking stats in the competition credit to its lower curb weight.
The Infiniti QX30 is by no means a gas guzzler and delivers a good fuel economy. The QX30 can go around the city for 24 miles on a single gallon of fuel. Take the QX30 on the highway and it will go for 33 miles on a gallon of fuel. The QX30 gets a combined fuel economy rating of 27 MPG.

The only car that matches the QX30 in terms of fuel economy is the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250. The Merc also gets a combined fuel economy rating of 27 MPG. The Infiniti and the Merc are followed by the BMW and the Audi that get a combined fuel economy figures of 26 MPG and 23 MPG respectively.
The cabin of the Infiniti QX30 feels plush and upmarket. The quality of materials and the overall fit and finish of the different panels are also really good. The knobs, buttons, controllers, and the infotainment display are thoughtfully laid out giving the dash a clean and uncluttered look. A major area of the dashboard is covered with high-quality leather and some portions are clad with high-quality soft-touch plastics accompanied with a few aluminum inserts. The steering wheel is also wrapped with leather and has control switches on it.
The QX30 can accommodate 5 adults. The seats of the QX30 are nicely developed and do the job of holding you in place really well. There is just the right amount of cushioning for the seats and the posture of the seats is also perfect. On the front, the QX30 offers a head/shoulder/leg room of 38.4/54.8/41.3 inches respectively while on the rear it offers a head/shoulder/leg room of 37.5/53.1/33.5 inches respectively.

Credit to its larger exterior dimensions, the BMW has the best head/shoulder/legroom on offer in the segment. The rear seats of the QX30 are a little bit cramped when compared to its rivals but tall passengers won't really have a hard time.
The infotainment system of the QX30 is very intuitive. The infotainment system consists of a 7-inch touch screen interface which delivers some crisp visuals and unlike most of the other screens don't lag at all.
The car also gets a 6 speaker audio system but you can always pay extra and get a 10 speaker premium Bose audio system for better in-car entertainment. You also get 2 USB connection ports for iPod and other compatible devices. The touch screen display is home to navigation and vehicle information systems.
Infotainment Features
The Infiniti QX30 offers a cargo volume of 19.2 cubic feet when the rear seats are up which is pretty decent for a crossover. Fold the second row of seats down and you open up to 34 cubic feet of cargo volume. The trunk can easily swallow in the luggage of 4 people going on a short trip.

At 27.1 cubic feet, the BMW X1 has the largest trunk of the lot. With the 2nd row of seats down, the BMW X1 offers a massive luggage storage volume of 58.7 cubic feet which is the best in the competition. While the Infiniti offers the second-best trunk storage volume with the 2nd row of seats up but it loses to all other cars in terms of cargo volume when it comes to comparing them with the 2nd row of seats down.
The smart and proportionate size of the Infiniti QX30 gives it a strong and commanding look. The QX30 is 174.2 inches long, 82 inches wide, and 58.9 inches tall. The car also gets a ground clearance of 6.8 inches which helps it during off-roading and also gives it an SUV-ish stance. The QX30 weighs 3280 lbs. and is the lightest car in the segment.

The BMW X1 is the longest and the tallest car in the competition. The X1 also gets the best in segment ground clearance of 6.9 inches. While Infiniti is the widest car in the segment, at 58.9 inches it is the shortest car in the category. The BMW X1 at 3543 lbs. is the heaviest car of the lot and is followed by the Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250.
Exterior Features
Some of the cool features on the outside of the Infiniti QX30 are listed below.
Infiniti does care about your safety and hence has offered a lot of safety features. Some features like dual-stage airbags and 4 channel anti-lock braking system all come as standard. Both the NHTSA and the IIHS has not crash-tested the SUV like most other luxury vehicles but offers a complete peace of mind with its several safety aids on offer.
Safety Features
The Infiniti QX30 outclasses the Mercedes Benz GLA 250 on all fronts. The Infiniti is cheaper, makes more power, has better braking stats, offers better fuel economy, and offers more features than the Merc.
The Infiniti only loses to the Merc in terms of luggage storage space only when the second row of seats is down only by a small margin. The Infiniti only doesn't bear the snob value of the three-point logo of the Mercedes Benz. Otherwise, any day the Infiniti is the more sensible car of the two.
The Audi Q3 is another German rival of the Infiniti QX30. The QX30 performs better than the Q3 on all the fronts and completely rips it apart. If you have to choose between the two, go for the Infiniti QX30. Only if you desperately care about the snob that the Audi offers and if you are willing to spend a few bucks extra, you buy the Audi.
Yet another German competitor of the QX30, the BMW X1 is costlier and makes more power than the QX30. But despite having a more powerful engine, the X1 fails to beat the QX30 in terms of acceleration timings. The QX30 outshines the X1 in terms of braking and fuel economy as well.
The X1 only offers a better passenger room and beats the X1 in terms of luggage space. Analyzing both the cars carefully, the QX30 again appears to be a more sensible option and is certainly a better buy.
In a single sentence, the Infiniti QX30 is a car that does everything right. It is priced really well, it has a punchy engine, it has got the best in segment acceleration timings, it has the best braking stats and it also offers great fuel economy. Moreover, it has got a luxurious cabin and it also looks really good. It can seat 5 people comfortably and can carry an ample amount of luggage in its trunk. In a nutshell, the QX30 is probably the best luxury crossover in the segment and justifies every single penny you'll be paying for it.
