Overall Rating
The 3rd-row space in the car can give even some of the bigger SUVs a run for their money. It is loaded with enough ability to become the perfect car for the family. The SUV goes up against other family movers like the Acura MDX, the Lexus RX 350, and the Lincoln MKX.
When looking for a crossover, buyers generally follow the contention and are prepared to make a compromise on either luxury or space. Infiniti has finally cracked the stereotype and devised a unique vehicle that offers the capability of a crossover in a neat and complete package, along with great interior space. The 2017 Infiniti QX60 is rather unique and stands out in its novel approach to a family mover.
The QX60 is a rather uncannily designed crossover that mimics a minivan to an extent but comes in a proper 4 door format with a modern-looking exterior. The rear fascia might irk a few, but none can deny that it is not your regular and simple look. The crossover is powered by a 3.5L V-6 engine and mated to a CVT transmission. There is only a single trim and all-wheel-drive is offered as an option.
Since there is only one trim on offer, the only thing to choose from is the drivetrains. Although the AWD trim is not particularly effective, it does help when the weather gets tough. If you live in a state where the weather gets snowy, the AWD trim makes more sense. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with the FWD trim either. The Premium package seems like a great deal and offers some of the most basic conveniences.

The crossover is available in only 1 trim. Both AWD and FWD powertrain is available. The standard list of features includes three-zone climate control, keyless ignition, and a moonroof amongst other features. Optional features include rear-seat infotainment screens, an active safety package, and much more. For a starting price of $43,100 and $44,900 for the FWD and AWD model, respectively, the QX60 is a great option for buyers in the crossover segment.

The engine on duty on the 2017 Infiniti QX60 is a 3.5L V6 motor that has been updated recently. A continuously variable transmission does the job of transmitting power to the wheels. The powertrain combo is one of the smoothest and quietest in the market and makes the car a stress-free vehicle. There is also a hybrid powertrain on offer with a 2.5L supercharged inline-4 with a single 15 kW electric motor, making a total of 250 horsepower.

In comparison with rivals, the Infiniti QX60 is the 2nd most powerful vehicle at 296 hp. The most powerful vehicle in the segment is the Lincoln MKX at 303 hp. The Acura MDX and the Lexus RX 350 are much more dynamic and responsive than the Infiniti. When it comes to torque figure, again Lincoln beats Infiniti to take the top spot by offering 278 lb-ft of torque.
Acceleration is something that does not come naturally to crossovers or minivans in general. The Infiniti QX60 can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 8 seconds flat, and then it goes on to complete a quarter of a mile in 16.3 seconds. The acceleration is rather sedated and tepid. The transmission does offer a “Sport” mode, which can make the CVT perform like the designated shifts between a 6-speed automatic, though that still feels too superficial.

The fastest car in the segment is the Lincoln MKX at 6.3 seconds. Just 0.1 seccond behind is the Acura MDX at 6.4 seconds. Lexus stands behind the two but easily beats Infiniti figures as it manages to complete 0-60 mph and quarter-mile in 7.2 seconds and 15.6 seconds, respectively.
A thing that is clear from the very start is that the QX60 compromises a lot on driving dynamics in the name of comfort. The car has a pillow-soft suspension setup and an electronically enhanced steering wheel, which does not offer any feedback, though the steering is rather brilliant for urban roadways or at slower speeds.
The ride quality and the interior make it one of the best cars to ride in. There is barely any jarring or vibrations entering the cabin, which is quite commendable. The car has improved from the previous model, with lesser body roll and improved road-holding.
Brakes on the QX60 features 12.6-inch rotors in the front and 12.1-inch rotors in the back. The brakes have a balmy tendency and lack the precision expected especially when you push the pedal hard. The hefty 4,383 lbs of curb weight certainly worsen the situation even further, and it takes 122 feet to reach a halt from 60 mph.

In comparison, the Lincoln MKX has the best brakes amongst rivals with a stopping distance of 118 feet. All the other cars including the Infiniti QX60 offer a similar braking distance, which is from 121 to 123 feet. When it comes to curb weight, Acura stands the lightest on the table with a curb weight of 4,001 lbs.
Crossover vehicles are seldom used to tow stuff behind their backs. Particularly the Infiniti QX60 with its CVT, which is sure to offer a highly minimal capacity. The Infiniti QX60 still can tow up to 5,000 lbs if and when you decide to take it along for camping.

The Infiniti QX60 is the only vehicle able to tow some decent amount of weight at the rear while all the other rivals lag far behind. Most of its competitors offer the capability to the tune of just 3,500 pounds.
In the present day of ever-increasing fuel prices, fuel economy has become more important than ever. Customers now look for efficient vehicles that save a lot of money for the buyer. The CVT gearbox from Infiniti, which has been inherited from Nissan, is quite capable of getting high-efficiency figures. The Infiniti QX60 does 22 miles to a gallon in combined city and highway usage, which is modest but slightly on the lower side.

The car has a 19.5-gallon fuel tank, which takes its range quite easily as high as 450 miles. In comparison, it is one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment. The only car that offers a better mileage is the Lexus RX350 at 23 mpg. The Lincoln MKX is rather inefficient in its consumption and also has the lowest range in the competition. The Acura's fuel efficiency is the same as the Infiniti's.
Comfort and space are where the QX60 excels. The seats are plush with soft-touch materials all over the cabin. Heating and ventilation are standard on all trims. The leather seating surface not only feels premium but also gels well with the interior, making it the perfect balance of comfort and space. Although the space is fine till the 2nd row, the 3rd row is certainly no good for adults, on account of its lower headroom, though the legroom offered on every row is quite brilliant.

The Infiniti QX60 is certainly the most spacious vehicle amongst its rivals, especially in the front row. The 2nd spot is taken up by the Lincoln MKX, but it can only seat 5 people in comparison to the 7 of the QX60. The Acura MDX has the least space in the second row, though it is still quite roomy as compared to most sedans or crossovers.
One of the biggest upgrades for the 2017 Infiniti QX60 is the 8.0-inch touchscreen, which was optional in the prior versions. The system has Bluetooth and audio streaming, though it is slow to respond and hard to operate. The premium package adds a 13-speaker Bose Audio system. While the Deluxe package pushes it up a notch with 15-speakers audio.
The Entertainment package adds two 8.0-inch screens with an HDMI port in the back of the front headrests. Some standout interior features are:
Being a crossover, the cargo capacity should naturally be no concern for the Infiniti QX60. The car features a segment-leading 76.5 ft. cube of cargo volume behind the 2nd row. Loading angles are accurately designed, and the motion-activated liftgate is certainly a welcome feature. Airport runs and long-distance drives should not be a problem at all.

The Infiniti offers great space with all the rows up, which is around 15.8 cubic feet, which is just a bit bigger than the Acura MDX. The Lexus RX 350 and the Lincoln MKX both are only 5-seat cars and thus offer great space, though their utility seems to be a bit lacking. The least space on the table is offered by Lincoln of 37.2 cubic feet.
The Infiniti QX60 is a unique vehicle to look at due to its peculiar rear styling. The car is proportioned in a way similar to a minivan but with 4 proper doors. The rear end looks rather extended but fits in well with the overall profile of the car. The car does look rather appealing from the front, though the rear and the side edges are a bit misfit on the frame, the rounded design does not offer it a muscular stance at all. At 4,383 lbs, the car is one of the heaviest amongst all competitors.

In comparison, the QX60 is the heaviest and longest car in the segment. It is also the heaviest. The widest car in the segment is the Acura MDX at 77.8 inches. The Infiniti QX60 offers a ground clearance of 6.5 inches, which is much lower than most of its competitors and barely qualifies the car for a crossover. Some standout exterior features are:
Crash testing of the Infiniti QX60 by the NHTSA yielded brilliant results for the vehicle. It features 5 stars in almost all the segments considered by the agency. The front driver side ratings and the roll over rating were the only ones to have a 4-star rating. The IIHS on the other hand has awarded the car as the “Top Safety Pick” for 2017. Not only has Infiniti ensured optimum structural rigidity but has also taken care of the occupants by offering some active safety features such as stability control, emergency braking, etc as standard. Some standout safety features are:
The Acura MDX and the Infiniti QX60 look eerily similar at a glance. Both the cars have station wagon looks. The Acura might look like a station wagon, but it certainly offers great performance and handling. The 290 hp engine with a 7-speed shifter is an explosive combo as it makes the car fun to drive around town or on the freeway.
The QX60, however, is a much better family car primarily due to better legroom and utility specs. Overall we prefer the Acura MDX due to its drivability and looks.
The Lexus RX 350 certainly beats the QX60 in terms of exteriors by quite some distance. While the Infiniti feels like a minivan, the Lexus appears much more like a crossover. With best in class mileage and a powerful motor, the Lexus appears to be much better than the Infiniti
However, the 3rd-row space, MMI usability, and boot space are where the QX60 triumphs. Though given the price the Lexus comes for, the Infiniti seems like a better pick.
The 2017 Lincoln MKX is a stylish and bold looking vehicle. The car looks like a proper mini SUV with its imposing front fascia. The interiors of the car are top-notch, and one glance inside the cabin is enough to realize how well all the components are integrated. The engine on its own is a powerhouse, but the gearbox lets it down by holding gear for too long.
But, practicality and usability are where the MKX loses out to the QX60. The Lincoln has a tiny boot and can seat only 5 occupants.
The Infiniti QX60 is a unique and peculiar-looking vehicle that might not necessarily suit everyone's taste. But, on the inside, the car is amazing value for money. The car has been designed to ferry big families in comfort, and that it does extremely well. The Infiniti QX60 is best suited to urban environments where it can maneuver around with ease due to a light steering wheel and soft suspension. It is not at all a sporty car, and enthusiasts are sure to be disappointed.
