Overall Rating
The F-Pace is the first try in the SUV market by Jaguar. It looks like they came up with the right ingredients for their first SUV. Sales figures for the F-Pace models aren't bad either. Yes, the F-Pace does not defeat the likes of Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 and the Audi SQ5 but lacks behind them by just a little margin.
Jaguar has F-Pace to answer every need. For lower trim, there is a 4-cylinder turbocharged F-pace that produces merely 180hp. For track days they have an F-Pace SVR with a V8 engine block that produces well over 500 horsepower. And you thought the SUVs are not for the track. Well, the F-Pace might not run against Italian prancing horses but that power will help it in rocky terrain. Isn't that what SUVs are made for.

The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is a good choice among luxury compact SUVs. It’s both sporty and practical, with precise steering, athletic handling, and a relatively pleasant ride. It also has expansive cargo and passenger areas. That said, the F-Pace's standard diesel engine is slow to accelerate. Unless you want the diesel engine’s better fuel efficiency, shop for models with the V6 engine. Also, the Jaguar's standard 8-inch infotainment system lacks the crisp graphics and quick response times of the available 10.2-inch infotainment system.

The new Jaguar F-Pace has three engine choices distributed among its various trims. The naming convention for this car is a bit confusing. The 2.0-liter diesel engine of the car is named 20d and a 2.0-liter gasoline engine is called 25t (not 20t) and both are turbocharged. Things get weird with the V6 variant as there is only a 3.0 liter V6 with two power output levels, one named 35t produces 340 horsepower and the S trim with 3.0 L V8 produces 380 horsepower. Anyhow, 3.0L V6 is offered in various trims, which we will be discussing further.

The Premium trim doesn't come with enough features to justify the price increase, but shoppers with a little more money to spare should consider the Prestige and R-Sport trim levels. The Prestige trim adds comfort features like leather upholstery and heated front seats. The R-Sport trim comes with a host of driver assistance features, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Here we have the S trim of the F-Pace to compete against the other SUVs from other brands. The F-Pace looks like a compact SUV but the power it packs is something a full-size SUV has. S trim comes at a price of $45,600 and it packs a 3.0 Liter V6 under the hood that produces 340 horsepower.
The car is an All-Wheel Drive and the power is fed to all four wheels through an automatic 8-speed transmission. The 8-Speed automatic transmission is standard for all the trims.

Compared to other cars in a similar price range, a turbocharged V6 configuration with 8-Speed automatic transmission seems common. But power output varies in different brands. X3 has a smaller 2.0-liter engine and produces merely 240 horsepower, 100 HP less from F-Pace. Whereas the SQ5 and AMG GLC 43 are producing 15-20 horsepower more than the F-Pace from a 3.0L V6 engine.
The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace comes standard with a 180-horsepower turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine. The base engine is the most fuel-efficient option in the lineup, but it's also the slowest to accelerate.
For more power, look for a V6-powered model. The available supercharged V6 engine produces 340 horsepower in all but the S and First Edition trim, which come with a 380-horsepower variant. While the base engine's zero-to-60 time is 8.2 seconds, the 340-horsepower V6 and 380-horsepower V6 accelerate in 5.4 and 5.1 seconds, respectively.

The V6 Supercharged engine in F-Pace is capable of doing 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds. That is undoubtedly slower than the hardcore version of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, AMG GLC 43, but it fits right in with other cars in the segment. Somehow the Jaguar manages to cover a quarter-mile of distance in flat 13 seconds. That is even faster than the AMG GLC 43. Maybe consistency in the acceleration is the key.
F-Pace comes with 13.8 inches of brakes on the front and 12.8 inches of brake size for rear tires. As you might expect from an SUV or even a compact SUV, they do not come in lightweight. So the F-Pace carries a weight of over 4000 lbs.
And this is still less when compared to the weights of other compact SUVs in the market. And this lightweight helps to bring the stopping distance of this car down to 116 feet.

The driving experience in this car is something you would absolutely love. Maybe the engineers inherit the DNA from their sports cars into this SUV to make it stand out as a sports SUV. Whatever they did, they just made a car that'll be loved by millions. Put this SUV in sport mode and it is going to put many sport sedans to shame. The electrically assisted steering wheel has the right weight to it that gives you the proper feedback and that will make you feel connected to the car, just like the people connect to animals in the movie Avatar. Although the powertrain's response could have been made snappier.
Suspensions on the Jaguar F-pace are firm and the ride is never harsh, although the bigger wheels (upto 22 inches are available) can add some jiggle to the suspension's movement over bumps. We'd recommend going for 20-inch wheels on your F-Pace as it strikes a nice balance of handling capability and rides comfort. Although the option for the adjustable suspension is available so you can tune it with a touch of a button as per your ride preference. F-Pace isn't just a fun SUV or crossover, it is a genuinely impressive car.
The F-Pace comes in two engine configurations, inline 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and a 3.0 liter supercharged V6. Everyone knows that the big engines are fuel-hungry and add turbos to that engine and you will sacrifice fuel economy for power.

For the S trim, the Jaguar's mileage is on par with most of its six-cylinder competitors. Diesel inline 4 cylinder engine gives a city mileage of 33 mpg and highway mpg of 26 mpg. Go for the supercharged engine in F-Pace and the fuel consumption falls down to 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway which brings the combined mileage to 20 mpg.
The F-Pace is your 5-Seater SUV, so calling it a crossover won't be wrong. It has five seats, as usual, 2 in front and 3 in the rear. The cabin is spacious with great sitting space in both the front and back seats. Although the headroom in the rear might be just on the limit of banging your head.

With the exterior design lines which sweep the roof-line smoothly to the back of the car, it is a surprise that engineers still manage to create good headspace in the back. Although the interior is plain, its seats are comfortable and supportive. There's also enough space for adults in both rows. Leatherette upholstery and power-adjustable front seats are standard, but some models may come with leather upholstery, heated and/or ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and sport front seats.
The Interior of this is covered with leather to give you that soft touch on whatever you touch. The dashboard is covered with leather with nice stitching on the edge. 8-Way power-adjustable seats are leather too with a massaging motor inbuilt along with heating and cooling. The Centre console houses the LCD display upfront with the rotary shifter which is raised up when you push the 'Start Engine' above it.
After the rotary shifter in the queue is two cup holders followed by the center armrest with little storage below it. The positions of the buttons for power windows are odd. Those are places up where the glass window starts. I can't think of any other car with button placement like this. There is a retractable center armrest housing two cup holders, which can be taken out from the middle seat in the rear.
Comes with Jaguar's state-of-the-art InControl Touch and InControl Touch Pro infotainment system which is slick. The screen is big with high resolution and responds to every light touch, in other words, the screen is very responsive. There is a secondary LCD display in the car. The instrument cluster is an LCD screen instead of the traditional analog needles.
Unfortunately, this car does not have support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. But InControl comes with a great navigation system integrated and there is voice input available along with Bluetooth connectivity for media streaming.
The F-Pace looks compact and it looks like the car might lack some space back in the boot. That is not the case actually. Without folding the 2nd row, you get a cargo of 33.5 cubic feet, and believe me that is more than what you get in cars in competition with F-pace.

Although folding the 2nd row doesn't drastically increase the cargo space. On folding the 2nd row, cargo space in F-Pace increases by 60% and it doubles in competition. Boot space in F-Pace comes with a spare wheel, in case of an unfortunate flat tire.
The body size of the F-Pace comes at a similar dimension to those 5-seater SUVs. The length of the car is 186.3 inches with 81.5 inches of width (With side mirrors) and 65.0 inches of height. On comparing it with the competition, F-Paces is 3 inches longer and 6 inches wider than the competition while the height is similar to the competition, give or take one inch.

With 8.4 inches of ground clearance, huge speed bumps will definitely not scratch your car and even the off-roading should not worry you. The 2017 F-Pace is roughly 15.5 feet long. Its curb weight is around 4,000 pounds. A power liftgate is standard, and some models come with a hands-free liftgate.
Jaguar's first SUV has taken design cues from its sisters. The front of the F-Pace unmistakably looks very Jaguar keeping the big grille and side stretched headlamps with large air intakes to the below, similar to other Jaguars. Jaguar has chosen to go for the LED headlamps along with LED daytime running lights. Big Grille up front houses the big Jaguar face-emblem along with the trim name on a corner.
The roof of the F-Pace houses a big panoramic window which gives you the illusion of the roof being the glass only. The rear window is quite small compared to other SUVs. Sidelines on the body of F-Pace flows with elegance and shrinks the height of the windows for rear doors. This SUV looks, even more, sportier than a sports car.
There are no standard driver assistance features. An intelligent speed limiter system is also available, which detects speed limits and displays them to the driver. Some models come with a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, a driver drowsiness monitor, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, pre-collision braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera, and traffic sign recognition. Some other safety features included in the new Jaguar F-Pace are:
The BMW X3 comes with a lower windows sticker price than the Jaguar F-Pace. Also, the engine powering the X3 is turbocharged but lacks two cylinders and so produces 100 horsepower less than the supercharged V6 F-Pace.
As a result, the X3 is slower and less powerful. Ideally, X3 should go against the inline four-cylinder variant of the F-Pace. But for 5 grand more than the X3 will give a V6 variant of the F Pace. So I am going to let the smartest of you decide which might be a better deal.
The S in the SQ5 stands for Serious Performance. I'm just messing around. The Audi SQ5 is just a little extra hardcore variant of the regular Audi Q5 SUV. It stands true as SQ5 turns out to give a tough challenge to the F Pace. SQ5 even produces more power than the Jag, despite both of them having a 3.0 Liter V6 with the F-Pace having the Supercharged and SQ5 having the twin-scroll turbo.
Although the performance difference is not that big. When it comes to other aspects like both of them seem to perform well. Throttle responses are aggressive in F-Pace and the growls made by SQ5 might scare your kids. Both SUVs handle sharp corners well enough. It is really head-to-head when it comes to SQ5 vs F-Pace.
The AMG sourced engine used in the GLC 43 is enough to make you believe that it will definitely be a beast. There is no denying that and the exhaust notes only make you trust more. The AMG BiTurbo engine in the GLC 43 makes 20 horsepower than the supercharged V6 in the F-pace. GLC 43 is even faster, it takes 4.8 seconds to reach from 0 mph to 60 mph.
It is easy to say that the GLC 43 does not only sound powerful but it does perform brutal too. The new Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 throws you in the seat as you press hard on that gas pedal and handles the corners without any sensation of understeer. AMG GLC 43 seems better than the Jaguar F-Pace.
As mentioned above, the F-Pace is the first try in the SUV market by Jaguar. It looks like they came up with the right ingredients for their first SUV. Sales figures for the Jaguar F-Pace aren't bad either. Yes, the F-Pace does not defeat the likes of AMG GLC 43 and SQ5 but lacks behind them by just a little margin. Considering the lower price of the F-Pace than the other two, the performance is justified. 2017 is the beginning of a new era for the Jaguar brand. An era that might turn out fruitful for the brand. Cars are already what one might expect from an SUV of this price range. Next year's refinement will only bring it a step closer to a perfect 5-seater SUV.
