The 2017 Jaguar XE is available in multiple trims and variants. There is the base variant, which starts at an MSRP of $34,900. All the other trims add more equipment along with more horsepower to the mix. In increasing order of luxuries, there is the XE Premium trim, then the XE Prestige, the XE R-Sport, and the XE First Edition.

The base model XE is a genuinely nice car for a great price. For that money, you get all the necessary standard equipment which does include leather upholstery and an 8” infotainment system, while the engine has a bit of a punch to it while offering good fuel economy figures. 

There are two engine options available for the Jaguar XE, the base turbocharged 2.0-liter Inline-4 engine with 240 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque and a supercharged V6 with 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque.

Power for both engines is managed by 8-speed automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels with the 2.0-liter engine and all the wheels with the V6 engine.

The most powerful of the above cars are the Mercedes-Benz C 300 making 241 hp. Following this is the Jaguar X making 240 hp, the Audi A4 making 220 hp, and then comes the BMW 320i making 180 hp, the least of the above cars. 

2017 Jaguar XE Acceleration

The Jaguar XE does the 0 to 60 sprint and 6.5 seconds and standing quarter mile and 15 seconds. The sedan continued to stop at a speed of 155 mph. The Jaguar XE comes equipped with the supercharged 3 Liter V6 and can do 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds and the standing quarter-mile in 13.4 seconds.

The Mercedes-Benz C 300 does the 0 to 60 sprint the fastest setting a time of 6 seconds. The next best time is set by the Jaguar XE with the time of 6.5 seconds, followed closely by the BMW 320i read the time of 6.6 seconds, and then with the slowest time the Audi A4 with a time of 7.0 seconds.

2017 Jaguar XE Braking

Jaguar XE sports a pair of disc brakes on all four wheels. The rotors of the brakes measure 12.8 inches on all four wheels and these rotors are vented discs. They are good enough to bring the sedan to a stop from 60 mph in 123 feet. The brakes also have the feature of ABS, brake assist, and hill descent control.

The shortest stopping distance is sent by the Audi A4 with a distance of 113 feet. The next shortest distance is said by the BMW 320i of 118 feet. Then comes the Jaguar XE with 123 feet and the Mercedes-Benz C 300 with 124 feet.

2017 Jaguar XE Ride and Handling

Handling is one of the strongest suits of the XE, with outstanding body control and minimum body roll. The ride quality doesn't suffer much for the handling though, and there is plenty of grip for the standard tires, although the summer tires are noticeably better. The steering is also electric instead of hydraulic, which robs it of a lot of feedback.

It can manage 21 miles in the city and 30 miles on the highway, on a gallon of fuel each. This brings the average efficiency to about 24 miles per gallon. Jaguar equips DXE with a 16.6-gallon fuel tank allowing it to have a range of 349 miles in the city, 498 miles on the highway, and a combined range of 398 miles.

In terms of combined range, the most are offered by the Mercedes-Benz C 300 with a range of 487 miles. Following this is the BMW 320i with a range of 442 miles, the Audi A4 with 428 miles for a combined range, and the least is offered by the Jaguar XE of 398 miles.

The Jaguar XE can seat five occupants in the cabin comfortably. The front seats are 8-way power-adjustable front seats for the driver and front passenger. As you go higher up in the trims 16-way power-adjustable seats are available as standard. The feature of heated and ventilated seats are available in the base trim for a small charge.

The interior upholstery on the base trim is leather and can be upgraded to feature Windsor leather which is also perforated. The upholstery is available in three colors - cream, saddle brown, and black. For added comfort, there is dual-zone front automatic air conditioning and you can also select to improve the air quality in the cabin with the option of the air ionizer.

The frontest legroom is offered by the Jaguar XE at 44.3 inches. When it comes to the rear legroom the most is offered by the Audi A4 and then comes the Jaguar XE marginally behind the Audi by 0.7 of an inch, making the XE a very spacious car. 

2017 Jaguar XE Infotainment system

All the different trims of the Jaguar XE come loaded with a version of Jaguar's InControl Touch infotainment system.

You can either have the standard 8” InControl Touch, or the premium, 10.2” navigation-equipped InControl Touch Pro. The standard features of the infotainment system are as follows:

2017 Jaguar XE Cargo Capacity

The Jaguar XE has a trunk capacity of 14.7 liters. That would be enough to hold luggage for three people without any issues. For more carrying capacity, the rear seats fold down in a 40/20/40 configuration for holding any additional cargo you may have.

The Jaguar XE has the most trunk space with 14.7 cu-ft. of space. Then come the Audi A4 and the BMW 320i with 13 cu-ft of space each followed by the Mercedes-Benz C 300 with the least amount of space featuring 12.6 cu-ft.

The XE is an entry-level mid-size sedan, and as such it has the dimensions of a mid-size saloon car. The length is just a smidge below 184 inches, and the width is just below 73 inches. It isn't a drag to negotiate traffic in this, but the long-wheelbase does make it a bit more effort than not.

It is also a fair bit heavy, although not by much. The weight certainly hurts its performance and fuel economy though, but the handling is spared from its effects. The curb weight, i.e., the weight of the car with all the fluids and a tank full of gas, is 3350 pounds, which sits in the middle of this segment.

In terms of dimensions, the Jaguar XE is similar to the other cars above. The big difference can be seen in the weight where the Jaguar XE is the lightest of the above cars. However, it is lighter by only 20 pounds than the BMW 320i. 

The NHTSA has not yet rated the Jaguar XE. The IIHS, like the NHTSA, also has not rated the new Jaguar XE. However, the engineers at Jaguar have boarded the XE with plenty of safety features, the most significant of which are listed below.

Jaguar XE vs Audi A4

The Jaguar XE is more powerful and performs better than the new Audi 4. In terms of space, the Jaguar offers a similar amount on the inside, but more space in the trunk area. The infotainment is quite good in both cars. The safety features in the Jaguar are many fitted standards and in its base configuration, we choose the Jaguar XE as it is also cheaper than the Audi A4. 

Jaguar XE vs BMW 320i

The new BMW 3 Series is the same price as the Jaguar XE, However, the Jaguar does offer more power and trunk room, even though it lags behind a bit in fuel economy and range. The interior offering of the Jaguar really makes it a better car in this case. 

Jaguar XE vs Mercedes-Benz C 300

The new Mercedes-Benz C 300 is much pricier than the Jaguar XE but offers slightly more power and better performance than the Jaguar. In terms of features, we can say both are nearly evenly matched with what is on offer with the Jaguar having a considerably longer features list as standard and even optional. However, the price does make it a much better case to get the Jaguar. 

The Jaguar XE is well thought through the car, it offers premium features in its base offering for a comparatively affordable price (its competition is much pricier). The interior and infotainment departments of this car really sell it, and if you do not want the base engine, the supercharged engine is available with an all-wheel-drive drivetrain which will make it a bit more sporty to drive.
