About 2018 Acura NSX

3.9

Overall Rating

The 2018 Acura NSX can be termed as a super sports car as it is more powerful and technologically advanced than a regular sports car yet not capable of a proper full-fledged supercar.

The 2018 Acura NSX can be termed as a high-performance sports car since it is more powerful and technologically advanced than a regular sports car yet doesn't breach the supercar territory. The Acura NSX has a powerful hybrid powertrain, extremely precise handling, immense high-speed stability, great cornering abilities combined with a comfortable and spacious interior. It comes with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, three Electric Motors with a Lithium-Ion Battery, which can be used to power the car in different configurations.

There is a Quiet mode for limited EV-only operation to save fuel, Sport mode for normal driving, Sport+ mode for more dynamic performance and, and Track mode for maximum cut-throat performance on the track.

2018 Acura NSX: The Supercar with a Hybrid Edge

Pros

It easy taking care of for both amateur and experienced drivers, It gives Agreeable ride and extraordinary forward perceivability

Cons

Infotainment framework is inconvenient and obsolete, Doesn't evoke much emotion

It Extraordinary super vehicle that mixes the characteristics of Ferrari and Porsche pleasantly in a somewhat reasonable bundle. Can be a day to day use vehicle besides in snow and ice except if outfitted with legitimate tires and leeway issues with snow as it has pretty low freedom and no choice to raise the vehicle to clear the snow.

2018 Acura NSX Review

Pros

  • Hybrid Powertrain is responsive and fuel-efficient.
  • Great power output for the price
  • Distinctive looks
  • Suitable handling for everyone

Cons

  • Some cheap interior elements
  • Restricted cargo area
  • Outdated infotainment system

The 2018 Acura NSX can be termed as a super sports car as it is more powerful and technologically advanced than a regular sports car yet not capable of a proper full-fledged supercar.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The Acura NSX Hybrid Coupe has one trim priced at $156,000. Even though the car might look exotic from the outside, the cabin tells a different story. Overall, the interior of the car is decent barring some cheap plastic materials. On the features ground, the car is well-packed with almost all the necessary techs barring the dated infotainment system.

Engine and Performance
9.1/10

The 2018 Acura NSX Hybrid Coupe has a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 working in tandem with three electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack that delivers a combined output of 573hp and 476 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid V6 powertrain is mated to a slick-shifting 9-Speed Dual-Clutch Automatic transmission. The NSX delivers some breathtaking power levels for the price and the electric motors do provide that extra"oomph" while going flat-out.

The Acura NSX with its hybrid powertrain beats the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Nissan GT-R Track Edition in terms of power and torque figures. However, The GT-R is no slouch either and delivers some jaw-dropping power delivery and track performance at a relatively lower price point.

How fast is the 2018 Acura NSX?

As the numbers reveal, the 2018 NSX delivers gut-punching levels of acceleration from the highly capable drivetrain supported by the very grippy all-wheel-drive system that is called the Super Handling AWD by the brand. The NSX blasts to 60mph from a standstill in just 3 seconds and crosses the standing quarter-mile in 11 seconds.

The top speed is limited to 191 mph.

The Nissan GT-R is marginally quicker than the NSX in 0-60 times by reaching 60mph in 2.9 seconds while the NSX takes 3. The Porsche 911 Turbo is not slow but comparatively behind the other two, taking 4.5 seconds to reach 60mph. The Nissan GT-R Track Edition has the highest top speed of 195 mph, followed by the Acura which can reach 191mph, and finally, the Porsche, which is limited at 180mph.

How well does the 2018 Acura NSX Ride and Handle?

It’s not just in straight lines that the 2018 NSX shines, it also does the same thing in driving up and down the canyons and dominating the racetrack. It has excellent handling and stability, and the gearbox is smooth and delivers crisp shifts. The NSX is a technical marvel as it combines all the best of electronics and electricals with an efficient powertrain to deliver surprising levels of handling capabilities.

How good are the brakes of the Acura NSX Hybrid?

The Acura NSX has a set of powerful brakes with 14.5-inch rotors in the front and 15-inch ones in the rear. It stops the car from 60mph in 103 ft. It has an increased weight of 3,803 lbs which doesn’t actually affect the braking capabilities because of the very strong brakes available with the wheels.

The 2018 Nissan GT-R has a phenomenal braking setup as well with 15.3-inch rotors in the front and 15-inch ones in the rear. The Porsche has the second best with 15-inch rotors in the front and back. The braking distance for the other two vehicles on the table is calculated at 70-0mph.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

Being a Hybrid, the Acura NSX does have an advantage in the fuel efficiency segment, delivering a mileage of 21 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and combined fuel efficiency of 21.5 mpg. It has a 15.6 gallon and a combined range of 335miles. There is a silent EV mode in the NSX that can get up to speeds of around 50 mph but only has a disappointing 1.8-mile range. Yes, you heard it right, and it cannot startup in Electric-only mode. It has to start with the V6 and then switch to the electric motor. It seems that the electric motor is only for assisting the V6 engine, and it does that job very well.

The Acura NSX has the best fuel efficiency, but it also has the smallest fuel tank with 15.6 gallons capacity and hence has the least range of the bunch. However, in the city, the NSX delivers the best range of 327miles regardless of the smaller tank. The Nissan GT-R Track Edition is the least fuel-efficient with a combined efficiency of 18mpg, standing at third place below the Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe with 21mpg.

Interior
7.5/10

This is where the 2018 Acura NSX Hybrid Coupe doesn’t quite justify its price. Although the interiors are spacious and seat two people comfortably, there is a lack of premium quality all around the cabin along with the presence of some cheap plastic elements. The leather-covered seats look and feel plush and luxurious with good support and comfort, but they are not automatically adjustable without paying extra for the added functionality.

There is also dual-zone automatic climate control to keep the occupants comfortable regardless of the temperatures outside. The cabin delivers plenty of head, shoulder, and legroom for both the occupants, and the view outside the cabin is also pretty wide, and visibility is high by supercar standards.

The 2018 Acura NSX is a two-seater coupe, whereas the Porsche 911 Turbo and the GT-R seat 4 people. The interior dimensions including head, shoulder, and legroom are plenty in the NSX, and no driver or passenger of any size or height would feel cramped or uncomfortable. Few key interior features include-

  • Perforated leather seats with Alcantara trimmings
  • Dual-zone Automatic Climate Control
  • Leather-wrapped Door Panels
  • Leather-wrapped Steering Wheel and Instrument Panel
  • Carbon Fibre Interior Sport Package
  • Semi-aniline Milano leather sport seats with power adjustments and heating function.

How intuitive is the 2018 Acura NSX Coupe Hybrid’s infotainment unit?

The 2018 Acura NSX has an infotainment system consisting of a 7-inch touch screen, which can be upgraded to an 8-inch unit if needed, an eight-speaker sound system with navigation, Bluetooth, and hands-free text messaging capabilities. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration are also present in this system. Other notable features include Pandora, HD Radio, and Siri Eyes Free for iPhone users.

Optional features include satellite radio and a nine-speaker premium surround-sound system. The touchscreen infotainment system is easy to use, but with few extra buttons that are actually not necessary, there is a need to take your eyes off the road to use it, which is distractive and is not recommended doing while driving. Major infotainment features include-

  • 7-inch Touch Screen Infotainment Unit
  • Optional 8-inch Touch Screen Infotainment Unit
  • Optional Sirius XM
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration
  • Standard Eight-Speaker Sound System
  • Optional Nine-Speaker Premium ELS Surround Sound System
  • Carbon Fibre Interior Sport Package

Cargo Space

One drawback of the NSX is its cargo capacity, which is on the lower side of the spectrum. It has a cargo area of 4.4 cu-ft, which is really low even for a sports car of its class. This cargo area can be used only for small bags or one large suitcase while the rivals offer better cargo capacities.

The 2018 Nissan GT-R Track Edition has the most cargo capacity of 8.8 cu-ft, which is pretty good space for carrying light luggage, followed by the Porsche 911 Turbo at second place with 5.1 cu-ft, and finally, the Acura NSX Hybrid comes in at last with 4.4 cu-ft of cargo capacity.

Exterior
9.0/10

The 2018 Acura NSX Hybrid Coupe looks stunning on the outside. The front end consists of a little bit of an Acura ‘beak’ but nothing to the extent that it becomes an eyesore. The mesh grille which further extends to accommodate the LED headlamps into its corners dominates the front end. The side profile of the NSX looks similar to an Audi R8, but like a sleeker, smoother R8.

The rear end consists of a full-length LED taillamp strip connecting the two separate tail lamps while the Acura logo sits in the middle. The exterior design language is aerodynamic with the curves, lines, aiming for better air resistance, whereas not extremely so as there are big air intakes located up front, along the sides and the rear, and the side mirrors stick out quite widely.

The NSX is also the widest with a width of 87.3 inches. The NSX has a ground clearance of 4 inches while the GT-R Track Edition has 4.3 inches. Few important exterior features include-

  • Optional Carbon fiber roof
  • Optional Carbon fiber rear decklid spoiler
  • Carbon ceramic brake rotors with silver, black, orange, or red brake calipers
  • Optional Iron rotors with red brake calipers
  • Exclusive interwoven aluminum-alloy wheels with machined, painted, or polished finish

Safety
8.0/10

As for safety ratings, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has crash-tested the 2018 Acura NSX, so the ratings are not available. But the Acura NSX does have a comprehensive list of safety features embedded into it, including Dual Stage Driver And Passenger front and seat-mounted airbags along with 1st-row curtain airbags, and a knee airbag for the driver only, and side-impact beams. There is also an airbag occupancy sensor installed in the NSX. There is also a rearview backup camera to help while reversing the NSX. Electronic Stability Control and Traction control are also standard features that ensure that the Acura stays stable and intact in all road and speed conditions. Other features include-

  • Dual-Stage Airbags
  • Driveline Traction Control
  • 4-wheel ABS
  • VSA Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Tire Specific Low Tire Pressure Warning
  • Back-Up Camera

Competition

2018 Acura NSX Coupe Hybrid vs 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe

Acura offers better performance, drivability, and power figures while the only advantages the Porsche 911 Turbo has over the Acura NSX is that it has a more luxurious and premium looking and feeling interior, and it is slightly more practical with a bit more cargo capacity.

The NSX in terms of fuel economy also smashes the 911 Turbo and becomes the obvious choice among the two.

2018 Acura NSX Coupe Hybrid vs 2018 Nissan GT-R Track Edition

Acura offers better fuel efficiency and slightly better power figures, but the Godzilla still beats it. The Nissan GT-R still stands unbeatable in the segment and class with the lowest price and the ultimate outright performance. It also offers the most functionality with the largest cargo area of the bunch. The Acura is a great car and a great package, but the GT-R still wins this comparison.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

The 2018 Acura NSX is a technological brilliance that has a revolutionary drivetrain and excellent drivability. The twin-turbo V6 coupled with three electric motors delivering impeccable performance to the slick 9-speed dual-clutch transmission is a wonderful driver-centric setup that is controlled and inspiring to drive. The AWD system in the NSX is just as Super-handling as they call it. With incredible drivability, superb handling, and excellent performance, the Acura NSX is a great package that will turn many heads. The distractive infotainment screen setup and some low-quality elements in the cabin can be considered as drawbacks, but those are negligible stuff while taking its real capabilities into consideration.
