About 2018 Bentley Flying Spur

4.0

Overall Rating

2018 Bentley Flying Spur is an absolute beauty. It\u2019s fierce not only in terms of performance but also in terms of persona too.

When a powerful, robust engine is coWhat do you get when you synthesize an exhilarating engine with premium comfort and exuberant styling? That’s right, a Bentley! Well, not just any Bentley, you get the supreme extravagance of the Flying Spur Sedan. For 2018, the Bentley Flying Spur adheres to the vintage formula embracing all that Bentley is best known for. The ride, the luxury, the comfort, everything is more penchanting than ever this year. To keep things interesting, the brand offers a choice of three different engine options on the Flying Spur. There are a couple of V8s and one W12, with a 6-liter house and producing over 616 HP. Both the V8s are of the same capacity, but differ in the way they breathe in air. Apparently, there is more to this British embedded design than just a powerful engine, the likes of which are discussed in the following review.

Techniclally speaking, every Bentley is quite unique in itself, and the same is true for the Flying Spur as well. With a crafty design and a intelligently engineered powertrain options, it is quite daunting to refraim from praising each one of them. However, with a great thought put into it, the V8 S Sedan trim is the most critical option as a complete value for money product. It comes prudently loaded with features and amenities along with the limited edition Alcanatara Headlining and a wide array of infotainment features. On the other hand, the enhanced aspiration on this V8 adds a 21 HP boost at the same time.

2018 Bentley Flying Spur is an absolute beauty. It\u2019s fierce not only in terms of performance but also in terms of persona too.

Overview

When a powerful, robust engine is coWhat do you get when you synthesize an exhilarating engine with premium comfort and exuberant styling? That’s right, a Bentley! Well, not just any Bentley, you get the supreme extravagance of the Flying Spur Sedan. For 2018, the Bentley Flying Spur adheres to the vintage formula embracing all that Bentley is best known for. Apparently, there is more to this British embedded design than just a powerful engine, the likes of which are discussed in the following review.

Pricing and Features
9.0/10

Precisly, 2018 Bentley Flying Spur is available in 4 trims. These are V8, V8 S, W12  and W12 S. Pricing options for the trims start from $189,000, $205,000, $224,500 and $244,600, respectively. The V8 Sedan comes with dusk sensing headlamps and four-zone climate control as standard features. Moreover, multi-level heating passenger seat and slide sunroof are also features worth cherishing for.

V8 S Sedan trim retains most standard features of V8 Sedan in addition to introducing some newer ones. A single tone, 3 spoke, hide trimmed steering wheel and Alcantara headlining are some of them. Moreover, this trim comes with a powerful version of the 4.0L engine, generating 521 hp of power. The W12 and W12 S feature a 6.0L Twin Turbo W12 engine. It boosts the maximum power to 616 hp.

In addition to flaunting most features of the V8 S Sedan, W12 Sedan comes with a chrome grille, oval exhaust finishers and interior style specification with hand cross stitch. W12 S - the top trim - adds Mulliner driving specification along with Beluga Gloss exterior mirrors.

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

Sticking to the base V8 sedan variant, the 2018 Bentley Flying Spur features a 4.0L Twin Turbo V8 engine. It is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The powerful engine delivers 500 hp of power and an impressive 487 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine develops peak torque right from 1700 rpm which means that the engine remains up on its feet all the time.

It's very easy to amble around in the city and yet when you flex your right foot, the engine lets loose its all 521 horses and pulls really hard. You'd be surprised by how lively this engine can feel in spite of all that weight it has to haul. The 8-speed gearbox is smooth and responsive. In city driving, its best to leave it in drive and then when you need to pull hard, the gearbox does not hesitate to drop a gear or two to give you maximum torque.

The engine power is greater than that of the 463 hp provided by 4Matic Sedan. However, 4Matic Sedan offers better torque of 575 lb.-ft. Mercedes-Maybach S560 4Matic Sedan comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission mode. Rolls Royce Ghost features a powerful 6.6L Twin Turbo V12 engine. It outclasses 4.0L V8 engine in Bentley Flying Spur by generating 563 hp of power and delivering 605 lb.-ft. of torque. Like the Bentley Spur, Rolls Royce Ghost features an 8-speed automatic transmission mode.

Acceleration

2018 Bentley Flying Spur V8 S really pulls hard for a luxury limousine. The sports sedan rushes to 60 MPH in 4.6 seconds. Comparatively, Mercedes-Maybach S560 4Matic Sedan requires 5.8 seconds to do so. Rolls Royce Ghost also features a swift acceleration. However, it falls short of just 0.1 seconds reaching 60 MPH then that of the Bentley Flying Spur.

The latest addition to the Bentley Flying Spur flaunts a quarter-mile coverage time of 12.8 seconds. This is better than that offered by the S560 4Matic Sedan and the Rolls Royce Ghost. S560 and Ghost flaunt quarter-mile coverage time of 13.1 and 13 seconds, respectively.

Ride and Handling

2018 Bentley Flying Spur has precise handling. However, unlike other rides, it doesn't compromise sturdy steering with comfort. Spur's air suspension literally glides over any road imperfections. In fact, low lumps and dips are managed in a way that someone sitting in the rear seat wouldn't even know how's the tarmac under the wheels. It's a Bentley and it rides as you'd expect - supremely comfortable. You wouldn't have a Bentley otherwise, would you? Well, nobody's perfect. Sharp, broken surface might disturb peace in the cabin. But that's only in the worst road conditions. Overall, no matter where one's sitting in the Bentley Flying Spur, a nice, comfy ride is guaranteed.

The steering is surprisingly precise and it's not as difficult to manoeuvre this car around the city as you'd expect from such a big barge. The steering is obviously pretty light and does not have the dynamics of a sports car per se but its still pretty quick. When going around corners, the Spur contains its lateral movements quite well and while you really wouldn't throw this car around corners its quite satisfying to know that your car would be able to cope with corner-carving quite well.

Braking

2018 Bentley Flying Spur has big 15.9-inch brakes in the front. In the rear, however, it packs a smaller 13.2-inch brake. The braking power is superb and won't let you down even while triggered at high speeds. Moreover, the brakes are soft and easy to get in control of any time.

The side profile of the car is very neat with only a flying 'B' over the front fender. The taillamps at the rear seamless blend in with the curves of the car complete the look. One could argue that it doesn't look extraordinarily rich but one you start looking closer, you'd definitely appreciate the details.
