Overall Rating
Despite not being really technologically equipped, the car offers ample space in a compact design along with great fuel economy at a low price. Equipping all this with a modest 2 litre DOHC engine offering 131 horses and 139 lb-ft. of torque arranged in a Front Wheel Drive(FWD) mechanism, the Minivan comes at a decent price tag starting from $22,405.
Initially launched in 2014, the Chevrolet Express Minivan is a small delivery van with huge aspirations. Since its inception, it has been the ideal choice and a perfect solution for making timely deliveries in narrow alleys and small lanes. With the 2019 's model coming into existence carrying a rare possibility, the 2018 year is the last model you can scoop up to get your hands on the Minivan.
The price difference between the two trims of the City Express minivan is just $1,110. However, for the extra price, you will get features such as the rear parking assist and power outlet in the LT trim. These features are very much helpful especially to the small business owners, thus our preference goes to the higher LT trim.

Looking at the MSRP, the LS trim comes at $23,850 while the LT trim is priced a little higher at $24,710.

Not really a big USP of the van, the performance is where the City Express certainly lacks when put head to head against the rivals in its segment. Under the hood, the 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan houses a 2.0-Liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 131 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque, which powers the front wheels as standard.
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) employed in the minivan eliminates the need of shifting gears manually.

Apart from the Nissan NV200 S, both the Ram ProMaster City and Ford Transit Connect offer better engine power and torque than the Chevrolet City Express minivan. The Nissan NV employs the same CVT transmission as that of City Express. The NV200 is the cheapest offering here, while the RAM is marginally pricier over others.
It would certainly be hilarious to test the City Express on track and unleash its track time prowess. Nevertheless, analyzing the acceleration capability of the 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan, it has a 0-60 mph time of 9.9 seconds. On the other hand, the quarter-mile time of the City Express minivan is 17.5 seconds. This performance should be enough to merge on to the highway and other similar scenarios.

There is not much to differentiate between the vans as all have similar performance, but for the sake of reference, the Ford Transit Connect is the fastest in both the acceleration tests. The Nissan NV200 is the slowest to reach 60 mph, while the RAM ProMaster City is the slowest to cover the quarter-mile.
The front wheels in the 2018 Chevrolet City Express utilize a set of 11.1-inch disc brakes at the front, while the rear gets a set of 9.0-inch drum brakes as standard. Considering the 3,260 lbs of the weight of the van, one cannot expect exceptional braking performance, and the 143 ft taken to halt when braking from 60 mph is a testament to that.

All the other vans have similar brake setups and are also more or less similar in terms of their curb weight and thus the braking distances, therefore, vary accordingly. The RAM ProMaster has the largest set of brakes and features an all-around disc setup for a better experience.
It comes as a big surprise that the City Express comes as being best suited for city driving. A very nimble steering wheel along with a quick turning radius makes driving the Chevy Minivan stress free on chaotic city roads. The City Express Minivan employs an electric rack & pinion type power steering wheel, which feels light and smooth while maneuvering the minivan.
The well-damped suspension system of the City Express makes the ride much more comfortable even on bumpy roads. The acceleration of the minivan is responsive, and it easily touches the speed mark of 60 mph. Due to the compact size and a turning radius of just 18.3 feet, the Chevrolet City Express Minivan can easily travel in narrow streets.
The City Express might look very compact and small in front of the larger vans available in the market, but its hauling prowess is nothing short of a surprise. Chevrolet claims a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs while the payload capacity is rated at 1,500 lbs.

The RAM makes good use of its superior power and torque and thus offers the best in class towing and payload capacity. The Ford Transit Connect and the City Express have similar hauling capabilities while the Nissan is on the opposite end of the spectrum and has the least capacities in this comparison.
Hands down, the fuel economy of the 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan is remarkable as it offers a combined fuel economy of 25 MPG, which is better than most of its competitors. Breaking down the fuel economy into city and highway conditions, the City Express offers 24 MPG and 26 MPG, respectively according to the EPA ratings. The small gas tank available on the City Express means that one can drive around the city for a maximum of roughly 350 miles before having the need to refuel again.

Amidst the rivalry, the best fuel economy in the city conditions is that of the Chevrolet City Express which is matched by the Nissan NV200. However, on highways, the Ram ProMaster City rests on the top followed by the fuel economy of the Ford Transit Connect. Overall, the Ford Transit Connect has the least efficient engine.
Jumping to the seating section of the 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan, it offers a maximum seating capacity of 2 passengers. The rear section of the minivan has no seating options and is designed only for carrying cargo. Just like the City Express, all of its competitors have a similar seating layout. The quality of the interior clearly indicates the practicality over luxury philosophy from Chevrolet.Â
The standard cloth seats are the only available option alongside the hard plastics used all over the cabin. The seats are of decent quality and are comfortable for most parts, but lack the support that one would get in some of its competitors. All the controls and switches are controlled by standard plastic buttons and knobs to keep the costs down.Â

Talking about the comfort level, both the Chevrolet City Express and Nissan NV200 comes with 41.7 inches of headroom, 54.1 inches of shoulder room, and 42.6 inches of legroom. When compared with the rest, both the Ram ProMaster City and Ford Transit Connect Cargo XL provide more headroom and shoulder room. The highest headroom of 46.8 inches is offered by the Ford Transit while the Ram ProMaster has the widest shoulder room of 59.3 inches. However, in terms of legroom space, the City Express is at the top place. Clearly, the passenger space of Chevrolet's City Express is not much noteworthy. Key features include-
The 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan offers a basic music system along with 2 speakers as standard along with a 5.8-inch infotainment system with Nissan's infotainment system software. The music system supports AM/FM reception, auxiliary audio input, and CDs. However, it misses out on some useful features such as real-time navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. All the features are minimal and are what you expect from a work van at this price point. Key infotainment features include-
Cargo volume is one of the main traits of a minivan and the Chevrolet City Express seems to have no compromise over it. The 122.7 cu-ft of volume for carrying cargo, behind the front seats is more than enough for most buyers. The 82.8-inch long cargo bed can accommodate long goods as well, while the low loading lip means hauling in the cargo is a lot more convenient.Â

The Nissan minivan offers an identical 122.7 cubic feet of cargo storage space as that of the City Express. From the competition, the Ram ProMaster City Tradesman minivan offers better storage space, while the capacity of Ford Transit is quite low at just 103.9 cubic feet.
With a weight of 3,260 lbs, the Chevrolet City Express looks pretty boxy and does not have much character to it. The van also looks almost identical to the Nissan NV200, which in itself is a rebadged City Express.
The practicality over design philosophy continues to the exterior styling as it gets a basic set of halogen headlamps and standard 15-inch steel rims. There are also no options for optional wheelbase sizes and body styles.

Noticing the competitors, the Nissan NV200 has the same dimensions as that of the Express City except for the higher ground clearance of 6.5 inches. The Ram ProMaster City Tradesman is the longest, tallest and heaviest car while the Ford Transit Connect is widest among all the competing minivans.
From the safety perspective, the 2018 Chevrolet City Express is not among the extremely safe vehicles due to the lack of hi-tech safety features. Chevrolet has integrated only the basic safety features in the City Express Minivan to meet the vehicle safety standards of the USA as it hasn’t been tested by either of the government or private testing agencies. Some of the safety features in Chevrolet's City Express include-
Competing with the 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan is the Nissan's NV200 S, which is priced at nearly $21,330. Looking at its specifications, the Nissan NV200 S boasts almost the same performance and features as that of the City Express. The only difference between the two minivans is that the NV200 S offers lesser 60-0 mph deceleration distance and more ground clearance than the Chevrolet City Express. The decision is based on only the preference of the brand that one would choose between the two.
With the MSRP a little higher than the competition, the Ram ProMaster City Tradesman Cargo is yet another rival of the 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan. The vehicle employs a larger 2.4L engine that has greater power and torque figures than that of the City Express. Moreover, by observing other parameters, the Ram ProMaster offers an upper hand over the Chevrolet City Express in terms of headroom, shoulder room, cargo capacity, and brake size at both front and rear. On the contrary, the City Express has better fuel economy, ground clearance, and legroom space to offer over the Ram ProMaster minivan.
Another potential minivan that can give a run for money to the Chevrolet City Express is the Ford's Transit Connect Cargo XL. In terms of engine performance, Ford's transit is way better than the City Express as it too has more power and torque. Apart from the engine, the Transit Connect has larger headroom, shoulder room, and width than the 2018 Chevrolet City Express Minivan, while the Chevrolet offers more cargo capacity and a frugal engine.
A compact cargo van specially designed for small businesses, the 2018 Chevy City Express Minivan is a mini package offering a plethora of options prioritizing maneuverability and cost-effectiveness. Offering excellent fuel efficiency along with decent cabin space, ride quality, and power, the minivan from chevy with its minimalistic design surely gets the job done. Also, keep in mind the fact that, with the 2019 model, Chevrolet is in talks of getting the City Express discontinued, this current model is your only chance to grab a hand on the express.
