Unlike the larger F-Pace, there are no six or eight cylinders under the hood. There’s only one - a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. With it, the ride is able to make use of 246 horses of power and 269 pound-feet of torque. The same engine in the P300 R-Dynamic model gains 50 horses and 26 pound-feet of torque. Cog swaps are performed by a nine-speed automatic transmission and the power is distributed to all four corners of the car.
The nine-speed transmission is not as responsive or smooth as the eight-speed on other Jaguar models. It’ll lug the engine in high gear so you may feel vibrations on the steering wheel and then it hesitates the downshift. Different drive modes like Snow, Eco, Comfort and Dynamic significantly change the personality of the car. Car throttle, steering response and transmission can be set individually. There is no throttle lag like the F-Pace and the engine has some rasp note to it.

Although all the competitors are powered by the same engine, clearly, the Jaguar E-Pace is the most powerful car in this competition but is overpriced. With 228 horses on display, the BMW X1 is a good bargain for buyers. The GLA 250 stands in third place while the Audi Q3 sits on the last stand due to its low power and torque figures.
The 2018 Jaguar E-Pace flaunts an average acceleration. Thanks to its all-wheel-drive system, it can send a hundred percent of torque to the rear wheels. It is also important to note that the E-Pace is the heaviest car in this segment with a curb weight of 4035 pounds. This is because its chassis is made of steel and not of aluminum like the F-Pace.
The ride takes 6.6 seconds to hit the 60 mph mark. That’s really impressive for a crossover. The quarter-mile test is completed in 15 seconds. Jaguar claims a top speed of 143 mph which is almost 20 mph more than the I-Pace.

The BMW X1 strikes a good competition to the Jaguar E-Pace as it takes the same time to complete the performance tests like the latter. The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 comes in second place this time due to its light curb weight while the Audi Q3 stands last again.
Speaking of handling, this is a Jaguar and it doesn’t disappoint. Body motions are well-damped and controlled. In addition to flaunting a fashionable built, the Jaguar E-Pace has hyperfast steering. This allows the driver to tackle any corner, regardless of the curvature. The handling is crisp yet flexible. The body control is excellent, especially for a crossover.
However, the steering becomes unpredictable while dodging around curvaceous tracks at high speeds. The ride quality is firm but comfortable, as expected from a modern crossover. It is fun to fling into corners but you may experience more body roll. It can instantly shift all torque to the front or rear axles and also between the back wheels depending on traction needs.
The brakes of the E-Pace are very responsive. Talking about the intensity, Jaguar E-Pace has impressive braking power. Moreover, it is easy to adjust. There is a full 1-inch difference between the sizes of brakes in the Jaguar E-Pace. While the front brake is 12.8 inches, the rear brake is 11.8 inches long. The pedal is strong and the braking friction is perfect too. Due to its heavy curb weight, the E-Pace takes its time to halt. In the brake test, the E-Pace took 130 feet to reach zero from 60 mph.

The biggest brakes among the league are flaunted by the Audi Q3. It has a front brake of 13.4-inch size and a rear brake that is 12.2 inches long. Despite having the smallest front brake, GLA 250 offers the best stopping distance during an emergency. The ride requires only 120 feet to stop while decelerating from 60 MPH. The E-Pace takes exactly 10 feet extra while the X1 loses its crown with a poor braking distance.
Jaguars aren't known for their fuel economy. This holds true for the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace too. The ride offers 23 mpg of combined fuel economy. While the ride limits to 21 mpg in cities, it delivers 27 mpg on highways. The P300 R-Dynamic models get Jaguar’s active driveline that can cruise as a front-driver only decoupling from the rear axle to save fuel.

The BMW X1 offers somewhat better combined fuel economy of 25 mpg. But it is the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 that offers the best-in-class combined fuel economy of 26 mpg. The city and highway fuel economy for the GLA 250 is 23 and 31 mpg, respectively. Although both the E-Pace and the Q3 boasts similar fuel economy, the latter houses a smaller fuel tank of 16.9 gallons.
The Jaguar E-Pace retains the aesthetic value of a typical Jaguar on the inside. The interiors are simplistic and aesthetically pleasing. All fixtures seem to be at the right place. The E-Pace has a maximum passenger capacity of five. Despite the comfortable seating, this is the least offering in the league.
The cabin is moderately quiet and it doesn’t feel cramped upfront. The seating position is raised moderately but not too high and visibility is decent. Choosing a small SUV doesn’t mean feeling cramped. Even the backseat has enough head and legroom for six-footers.Â

The BMW X1 offers the best levels of headroom in both rows. The legroom offered by the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 is ridiculously low. It can barely provide comfort to six-footers. In terms of creature comforts, all the competitors maintain an equal balance to offer the best comfort to their buyers. Some key interior features flaunted by the Jaguar E-Pace includes:
The 2018 Jaguar E-Pace comes with Jaguar's proprietary InControl infotainment system. It features a number of intuitive and integrated technologies, allowing passengers to make the most out of the ride. The system features a 10-inch Touch Pro display built right into the center of the console. There are 4 customizable home screens available with the Touch Pro display.
The infotainment system is responsive and supports voice control. The optional HUD presents key vehicle data on the windscreen. All the graphics are available in high-resolution. The infotainment system is coupled with six speakers as standard but the optional 15-speaker Meridian Surround Sound System with Trifield Technology is much better. Moreover, there are additional 4 packages available to further upgrade the infotainment system. Some of the features include:
To put it simply, the Jaguar E-Pace isn't meant for carrying loads of cargo around. This is evident from the fact that it offers 24.2 cubic feet of space behind the second-row space. Moreover, it has a least-in-league 52.7 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. This space is enough to plan for a weekend trip around the mountains.Â

Once again, the BMW X1 shines and tops the table with its incredible cargo capacity of 58.7 cubes while the Jaguar E-pace is just behind it with 52.7 cubes. The Audi Q3 gets saved this time due to its decent cargo volume but the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 finishes last for its worst practicality in this competition.
Jaguar wants you to think of the E-Pace like an F-Type only lifted. Expert for its LED headlights and slim tail lights, there is no resemblance to its cousin but it's attractive all around. The car sits on 20-inch wheels, The luxury SUV market is overcrowded yet the E-Pace looks distinctive from any angle.
The arching roofline, the short rear end with the large spoiler while the curvy edges stamped into the sheet metal complete the look. The Jaguar E-Pace is the heaviest ride in the league. It has a total curb weight of 4035 pounds. It flaunts width and height of 74.7 and 64.9 inches, respectively. Width is the most amongst the league.

Any typical Jaguar is a short-length coupe, and the E-Pace is no exception. It is merely 173 inches long. Comparatively, the Q3 and the GLA 250 have 172.8 and 173.9 inches of length, respectively. The X1 has the most length of 175.4 inches in the league. The Jaguar E-Pace also has the least wheelbase of 105.6 inches. The GLA 250, on the contrary, has the most wheelbase of 106.3 inches amongst the league. The Jaguar E-Pace flaunts sporty looks in addition to having the traditional Jaguar persona. Major exterior features of the E-Pace include:
The Jaguar E-Pace comes with a wide assortment of security features for ensuring a safe, comfy ride. Both the federal safety agencies have neglected to crash-test the 2018 E-Pace. Hence, the safety ratings are not available. But the car flaunts top-notch driver-assist technologies to reduce the risk of an accident. In addition, the E-Pace also comes with six airbags. Some of the safety features include:
The Jaguar E-Pace receives a great deal of competition from the BMW X1. The ride packs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It is capable of generating 228 hp of power and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Both of which are lower than that available in the E-Pace. Nonetheless, the bid for E-Pace starts from $38,600, about $2,300 more than that of the X1. The X1 comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission mode.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 is able to generate 208 hp of power. Moreover, it is able to produce 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The starting price set for the SUV is $36,395, which is at the same level as the class rivals. The 2.0-liter engine is coupled with a 7-speed automatic transmission mode in the ride. The E-Pace is slightly better in acceleration than the GLA 250.
Like its class rivals, the Audi Q3 comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It imparts 200hp of power and 207 lb.-ft. of torque to the ride. Both are the least among the competition. For gear-shifting, the car comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Pricing options for the Q3 start from $35,000, almost to $3,600 less than that of the Jaguar E-Pace. The ride has the slowest acceleration among the class rivals. It takes 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill.
With E-Pace, Jaguar is aiming at releasing an affordable, from Jaguar's perspective, ride. This is perhaps done in order to increase the total number of Jags we see on the road. There are several aspects of the Jaguar E-Pace to cherish about. This includes the looks, especially exteriors, the robust engine and the driving experience. However, like other rides, the E-Pace also isn't free from flaws. One of the biggest issues with the ride is its tight rear seating. Adding this to the limited cargo capacity the crossover SUV stays behind the likes of the Audi Q3. However, the Jaguar E-Pace is a perfect balance of beauty and performance, period.
