Overall Rating
The V6 can produce a maximum of 345 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque which is enough to pull the Italian SUV comfortably. The 8-speed automatic transmission provides smooth gearshifts and is good for long highway journeys.
Maserati introduced the Levante SUV for the 2017 model year and it is the Italian company's first foray into the luxury mid-size SUV category. The Levante is one of the most comfortable SUVs on sale and it definitely lives up to it. It can seat up to 5 people and is known for its stylish interior. It is powered by a turbocharged 3-liter V6 engine which is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The 2018 Maserati Levante looks big, but that doesn't hold it back when it comes to performance. The engine stands ready to rocket you forward at the touch of the gas pedal. We recommend the base Levante as it offers most of the features and functionality at an adequate price point when compared to higher trims.

The Levante's extensive customization options include everything from the color of the brake calipers to the leathers and materials inside. With a large entertainment display, the interior looks the part, too. That is unless you recognize some of the buttons and switches borrowed from less expensive vehicles. The 2018 Maserati Levante is available in 6 trims starting from around $75,000 and goes all the way up to around $91,000.

Our Recommendation
The 2018 Maserati Levante looks big, but that doesn't hold it back when it comes to performance. The engine stands ready to rocket you forward at the touch of the gas pedal. We recommend the base Levante as it offers most of the features and functionality at an adequate price point when compared to higher trims.
Like all Maseratis are known for, the Levante gets an exceptional powertrain. The SUV is powered by a 3-liter V6 engine which can produce 345 horsepower and 369lb-ft of torque. At first, this might feel like a very commonplace assembly, but the twin-turbo aspiration gives it the much-needed peppiness.
Regardless of this, the output can hardly be compared to a sports car, since the torque peaks out at a very low rpm. This, to some extent, is taken care of by the 8-speed automatic gearbox which is engineered for quick and accurate shifts depending upon the mode in which the vehicle is operating.

When compared to rivals, the Maserati produces more power than the Audi but less than the Jaguar and the Porsche which produces the most power and the highest torque. Despite producing less power, the Maserati does not disappoint - the engine still feels powerful and torque.
The Maserati Levante is no sports car and it does not pretend to be one. But it is nothing less than one when you need the juice. Once into sports mode, the 3-liter twin-turbocharged engine comes into a league of its own - even the gearbox holds low gears for longer.
All of this combined helps the Levante accelerate to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.

Obviously, the Levante is not the quickest of SUVs, but it is not the slowest either. Particularly, against the Porsche Cayenne, the Levante throttles faster than the former despite a smaller engine. However, the Germans are not good at accepting defeat, and thus, the Audi Q7 beats the Levante to the finish line with the same assembly of pistons and cylinders.
As good as the SUV is, all its technology is in vain if it does not stop on time. To aid this, the Levante is equipped with 14.9-inch brake rotors in front and 12.9 inches in the rear. These are definitely bigger than the competition.
These massive brakes help the Levante to come to halt from 60 MPH in 118 feet.

Considering the size of the brake rotors, the Levante takes a lot of ground to slow down. Audi Q7 which is heavier than the Levante and has smaller brakes - takes less distance to come to a halt.
The Levante feels fun on twisty roads. The car might not feel well built or it may not be known for its reliability but it definitely feels agile. The steering provides great feedback and feels very precise. The gear changes are smooth and quick - almost seamless. The 3 liter V6 and the 8-speed automatic gearbox seem to be a great combination. The body roll is limited and the car feels smooth over bumps.
The Levante’s handling is unhampered around corners too. It has great dynamics and its self-leveling suspension adjusts to the road banks very smoothly, thus avoiding excess roll at such times. The steering too is very direct and keeps on building weight as the speed rises. Yes, electronics do take away the connectivity a little, but that does not affect the handling in any respect. All it does is filter out the shocks and vibrations that radiate from a poorly paved road.
Fuel economy is one area where the Maserati disappoints big. The 3.0-liter engine proves to be very inefficient in terms of gas mileage. At 14 miles per gallon, while driving in the city, it is even lower than some sports cars. Equipped with an engine start-stop feature that turns off the engine when idling is supposed to help the SUV with its gas mileage but it doesn't.

When compared to rivals, the Maserati has the worst mileage out of the group. Even the Porsche that weighs significantly more than the Levante, does more miles to the gallon. The Jaguar which has a smaller fuel tank when compared to the Levante also goes farther in a tank of gas.
The Maserati can seat up to five people. The front seats feel comfortable and roomy whereas, the rear seats don't offer as much space. The overall ride quality is good and the car feels stable. The Levante offers 108 cubic feet of passenger volume. Only the Audi Q7 offers a third row of seats.Â
The Levante's interior appears nicely put-together, but the materials don't inspire feelings of luxury-level quality, especially in this class. Items such as the gear selector and steering wheel button controls fall below class standards and are somewhat of a disservice to the Maserati brand.

When it comes to technology, Maserati provides the buyer with a lot of features but most of them are paid extras. The navigation system that comes as standard is not as good as Audi's Google Maps but it is pretty impressive and the voice recognition system is also advanced. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that come as standard with the car also make smartphone integration easier.
The infotainment system can be controlled using a control knob or the touchscreen itself. The control knobs feel less intuitive to use than some rivals but the system is easy and direct to use through the touchscreen. Some key features of the infotainment system are -
The Maserati Levante does offer a decent amount of cargo space but it is not large enough. At 19.4 cubic ft, it is way below what an SUV should provide. Compared to the direct rivals, the Levante has a low cargo capacity. However, the Audi Q7 is the one at disadvantage here with the least space available in the trunk. At this price point, a Maserati SUV is expected to have a decent amount of cargo area and the Levate disappoints.

Levante’s distinctive design helps it stand out in parking lots and even on the roads. The SUV does not let go of the Maserati design language - the Levante is unmistakably a Maserati. The most basic Levante features quite a few amenities.
The exterior shows automatic bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED fog- and taillights, auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors, chrome exterior trim, and a power liftgate.

At 197 inches in length, it is just a couple of inches shorter than the seven-seater Audi Q7.Out of this bunch, the Jaguar F-Pace is the lightest and the seven-seater Audi Q7 is the heaviest but still, the Q7 manages to eke out more miles to the gallon than the Maserati. With its long hood, the Maserati makes a bold statement on the road. Some of the exterior features in the new Levante are:
There is no shortage of innovative safety features that you can expect to benefit from while driving in any weather condition or driving situation. The safety features in the new Maserati Levante include front and rear parking sensors, tire specific low tire pressure warning, a rearview camera, highway assist system, active blind spot assist, surround-view camera, and lane-keeping assist.
Plus, the Levante is equipped with the intuitive Q4 intelligent AWD, a limited-slip differential, AND selectable drive modes that even include off-roading and icy conditions! Thus, you know 2018 is going to be a safe year when you are bringing a Levante home. Some of its explicit safety technologies are:-
The new Porsche Cayenne has been around for a very long time now. First introduced in 2003, the Cayenne has made its name in everybody's heart. With the iconic shape, the Porsche has established itself as the benchmark for a luxury SUV. The Maserati just fails to match the Porsche in major categories.
The Porsche provides the German build quality along with German reliability whereas, the Maserati Levante is the complete opposite.
The new Audi Q7 is also based on Volkswagen's MLB platform just like the Porsche Cayenne. The Audi offers the practicality of seven seats and a good fuel economy when compared to the Levante. The Q7 does offer less power than the Maserati but feels more stable and planted than the Italian.
Audi's infotainment system is also ages ahead of that of Maserati. The Audi also offers the well known German reliability but Maserati - is there something such as Italian reliability?
The new Jaguar F-Pace is the blandest looking car out of this group. The Jag produces more power than the Maserati but feels slower. The Maserati is the more agile of the two. On the build quality and reliability front, both the Jaguar and Maserati fail to make a mark. In terms of cargo capacity, the Jag is way more practical.
The mid-size luxury SUV market has grown dramatically over the past few years and Maserati's first attempt to capture the segment is far from perfect. The build quality is subpar and the interior feels cheap in the Maserati Levante. Maserati offers the least amount of cargo space out of the four cars and the rear seats don't feel supportive. Porsche offers more performance, reliability, and practicality at a comparable price.
