Overall Rating
All the trims except the GTS are powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that now produces 20 horsepower more than the previous generation.
Maserati, the economical division of Italian supreme FCA manages to put out a car at the 100k mark that is as distinguishable as the premiere. Riding on the ethics of Ferrari, Maserati brings to the table a personality and bold look that isn't matched by any of its rivals. A blend of effortlessness and bespoke craftsmanship the Trident symbol car definitely justifies its price tag.
The new Maserati Quattroporte is powered by the one and only 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that spits out 424 horses of power and 428 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission while the power is routed to the rear wheel or all four wheels if the all-wheel-drive setup is chosen.
Prices starting from the S trim and going up to GTS GranLusso, we see a lot of variations in the offerings and some of the mechanicals as well. After a close study on every trim, we take a stand with the new addition level to this year's Quattroporte, the S GranLusso. Mechanically, it offers AWD, above the RWD in S.
Having the 20-inch tire inclusions and updated safety measures, to name a few, the S GranLusso would prove to be a more fruitful investment in the Quattroporte. While obviously, customers having money to shed and performance to take in, the GTS GranLusso, having the heart of Ferrari would go the distance.

This time around, Maserati brings in two more trim options to delight the existence of their hot-sedan, the Quattroporte. All the models ride on a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. It is offered in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive setup. The S, Grand Sport, and GranLusso have the rear-wheel-drive setup while the S Q4, S Q4 GranSport, and S Q4 GranLusso have all-wheels power delivery.

This Maserati is being fed by a 3.0L 6-cylinder inline engine having an output of 424-horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. These are some interesting numbers on-paper and the performance lives up to the expectations as well. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission which is found not as accurate as one would expect.
The shifts are quite short but the harder throttle response is carried out by longer shifts. The car revs up to the red mark with ease and gives out extortionate performance.

The Quattroporte faces competition with the mentioned cars and it turns out to be a very fair comparison as all the cars have the 3.0-liter engine with a 6-cylinder setup and 8-speed automatic gear setup. Pretty clearly, the Maserati poses out as the winner with a drastic lead in the engine's output, tuning, and performance. Rest, all being luxurious sedans come out equally similar based on their engine qualifications.
The 424 horses from the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 rockets the Quattroporte. It is regarded as one of the fastest sports sedans in its class. The perfectly-tuned engine by Maserati allows the Quattroporte to achieve the 0-60 mph target in just 4.5 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in a mere 12.7 seconds.
The Quattroporte tops 179 mph without any hesitation. Having such a performance-oriented approach has a negative side which can be seen in the emissions department.

The Maserati Quattroporte is certainly the best car out of the pack and delivers well for what it is asked for. The BMW 740i shares its acceleration time with the XJ but raises its bar in the quarter-mile run. The Jaguar XJ and Audi A8 take the down score while having similar outputs on track.
Despite the increased girth of the car, Maserati has managed to pull out an extremely balanced car. It involves a lot of aluminum in its structure and chassis which allows it to shed unnecessary weight which further adds to a more responsive and well-handled car. As one would expect from a sports luxury sedan, the suspension is on the firm side which allows it to cruise through any circumstance without causing any nuisance. The electro-hydraulic steering allows the sheer joy of handling the Quattroporte at ease. The bigger wheels, however, decrease the comfort somewhat.
The 13.6-inch and 13.0-inch brake pads on the front and the rear wheels respectively helps the car to come to halt from the usual cruising speeds. The Maserati Quattroporte is one heavily built car, weighing just about 4101 pounds. Still, its braking behavior is quite good. The pedal is strong and the breaking action is quick too. When tested to the extreme, the brakes brought the Quattroporte from 60 mph to a dead stop in just 105 feet which is considerably great.

When analyzed, the car weighs right in the middle of the category but even though it has the smallest of the brake setups, it still carries off the least braking distance and the quickest to stop from 60 miles an hour. It is the BMW 740i that takes the second spot followed by the Audi A8. The Jaguar XJ loses this aspect of the clan.
Having such performance-driven aspects and outcomes, the Maserati Quattroporte is surely not considered to be an economical car. It consumes 16 mpg and 23 mpg in city and highway respectively. Thus, it delivers 18 miles per gallon of fuel consumption, combined. With a fuel tank capacity of 21.1 gallons, the Quattroporte offers a mileage of 411 miles.

Comparing the Quattroporte to its rivals, it loses out to every car in the segment which claims that it is the most uneconomical vehicle to be driven. The BMW 740i is a clear cut winner here, by proving to give such approachable numbers despite the heavy engine.
The Maserati Quattroporte is a well carved out car to easily stack in five people. The cabin is plush and ambient with many leather and wooden accents. Behind the wheel, you are welcomed by the charming trident badge. The dashboard of the Quattroporte is filled with faux wood trim. The Quattroporte carries the most modern interior styling of the brand.Â
The seats are of top quality leather. The front seats are a joy to be in while the back seats could be a bit of compromise for big adults. The hump in the rear row can be irritating for the middle passenger. However, with an optional executive rear seating, the GranLusso trim reduces the seating capacity to four. The central seat is replaced by a well-padded armrest.

Due to lack of data, we cannot put the Maserati Quattroporte against its competitors but the car ranks almost equally with the BMW 7 Series which is class-leading in terms of space and comfort. The Audi A8 boasts a better rear head and legroom than the Jaguar XJ.
In terms of technology, the Maserati Quattroporte is the leader in the segment. For 2018, Maserati has updated its infotainment system. The Quattroporte now features an all-new 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is quite stuffed with the latest technology but still fails to deliver justice to a $100,000+ vehicle. The system features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth streaming.Â
The functions and volume are controlled by a rotary knob. All the physical buttons are neatly arranged and are within easy reach from the driver. The occupants will mesmerize by the sound quality coming from a 10-speaker Harman & Kardon sound system. If you are a serious music lover then the optional 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system will be a perfect fit. Some of the infotainment features include:
Being one of the longest and widest in its class, this vehicle offers just about 18.7 cubic feet of cargo space which is quite some excellent work in this department which further allows the practicality of the car to some heights and of less hassle. The wide opening of the Trunk door makes loading the items easy.

Comparing the same, we conclude that the Quattroporte has the class-leading specs in this aspect. The BMW 740i stands in the same league as the Quattroporte while the Jaguar XJ finishes in third place. Meanwhile, the Audi A8 falls at the last spot.
The Maserati Quattroporte is easily identified by its concave grille with vertical vanes. The big and attractive trident badge at the center of the grille steals the front show. The LED headlamps express an angry look and the lower vents have a role in it too. Having a length of 207 inches, a width of 77 inches, and a height just above 58-inch, the Quattroporte is surely a huge sedan.
Provided a wheelbase of 125-inch assures the presence of plenty of space inside the cabin of the car. The car's built pretty symmetrically when the front to the rear ratio of track width is almost identical. The rear fascia is distinguished for its quad-exhaust setup and sharp LED taillights. 19-inch alloy wheels are standard on the Quattroporte but the optional 20- and 21-inch wheels give a classy look to the sport sedan.

The Maserati Quattroporte isn't the heaviest or the tallest but just claims the top position in terms of length and width, facing immediate competition from the Audi A8. All the aspects vary unconditionally in this equivalence test but the Jaguar XJ surely lacks a lot in this criteria too. Some of the basic exterior features being offered by the Quattroporte are:
The new Maserati Quattroporte didn't get any safety ratings by NHTSA or IIHS for its crashworthiness. Crashing-testing a $103,400 car just for the sake of safety ratings is not correct according to the officials. Hence, Maserati has made sure to add all its extensive list of safety features in the base model itself. The Quattroporte also comes with eight airbags including dual front, front side, side curtain, and knee airbags. For 2018, Maserati offers the following safety measures for the Quattroporte:
The BMW 7 Series is known for its plush and technology stuffed outlook at heart. It offers numerous amounts of exquisite luxury, exceptionally crafted details, and phenomenal mechanisms. Also known to be a chauffeur-driven car, it provides tons of comfort at the back seats as well.
However, the car lacks some confidence in handling as the steering is found to be soft and numb, even though the engine is a result of pure refined engineering. However, the Maserati Quattroporte offers dynamic handling as you would expect in a sports sedan.
Being kept in the same category of competition, Jaguar does not offer any thrilling feature of output out of its XJ. The car is well built, provides exceptional comfort, luxury, technology, and driving experience but falls short when compared to its rivals.
When it comes to performance, the Maserati Quattroporte is ahead of the Jaguar XJ. It has been a consistent performer in all the performance tests.
Audi comes with a feature and future loaded sedan, the A8. This gives out an immense amount of safety features, technology upholdings, premium comfort, and good ride quality. The engine output, however, falls a bit low along with some minor intakes of the cargo space and ride setup, when brought up to the comparative scale.
The Quattroporte beats the Audi A8 in terms of cargo capacity. Also, it boasts a powerful engine and well-balanced handling compared to the A8.
Priced above all this automotive marvel blessed with the Italian grace also performs above all. Justifying its price point in every parameter the decade-old design is still hard to beat and still manages to appeal to the adrenal glands of the connoisseurs. The only factor that the Quattroporte is low is the price factor. The starting price of the base model is $103,400 while its rivals are available at a much lower price. If the price is not a big boon for you then look no further than the 2018 Maserati Quattroporte.
