Mercedes-Benz stands with a solid hold on the automotive market as a part of the Big Three from the land of Germans. The vehicles they offer for their customers bring luxury with a certain set of performance to become solid head turners on the roads. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is one of them. This car is the new ground zero in the battle for best in-car technology, and Mercedes has shown everything they've got in this to tackle the best from BMW, Audi, and Cadillac.
Fortunately, E400 4MATIC has only one trim, which is the recommendation. If you're on the hunt for a luxury car that delivers crisp performance and has an ambient interior to make you feel at home, don't look further than the E400. The sedan screams of luxury for the segment along with a competitive performance on offer.

The quarter-mile timing is not available, but we expect it to be in sub 13 seconds.

Most of the people buy the E-Class because they want to reach their destination as comfortably as possible. The suspension is pretty good at tackling road undulations, and the interior space is super quiet. If it is fitted with optional air suspension, the ride feels as if you're on a cushion that floats over bumps.
The E 400 is equally relaxing in town as on the highway. The 9G-TRONIC gearbox is slick and provides for quick gear changes when overtaking is required, and wafts along when you just feel like cruising on the endless roads. The cornering done with this sedan does not show any sign of rollovers, which makes it a perfect cruiser on both roads and highways.
The continuously increasing technology in the automotive world has made us more focused on the required safety of the passengers inside. To ensure safety, the primary factor with a major role is the braking of the vehicle. For that, Mercedes-Benz E400 is equipped with 14.2-inch ventilated front and 12.6 inches rear discs, but the result for the 60-0 mph is not available for the sedan.

Brake test of 60-0MPH is currently unavailable for Mercedes, Audi, and BMW, however, the 2018 Cadillac stops from 60-0MPH at a distance of 107 feet. Even though the results are unavailable, we expect them to be decent enough to give strong competition to Cadillac.
Mileage is not the first thing you think of when talking about luxury offerings from German giants like Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. Still, with the 9G-TRONIC transmission and bi-turbo V6 engine, the E400 manages to offer 20 MPG in the city, 27 MPG on the highway, and 23 MPG combined with city and highway driving.

2018 E400's cabin is masterfully crafted with genuine leather, and on the whole, feels like the S-class as soon as you get inside the car. The front has got these 4 vents and a giant 12.3-inch high-resolution central infotainment screen. There is no digital driver cockpit, which should have been standard instead of the 2 big analog dials and small multi-function display in the center. The steering mounted controls with a touchpad make it super easy to control every feature.
The 2018 E400 is super spacious from the inside. Its supportive front seats come with electrical adjustment and a memory system to make you feel comfortable. You even get 4-way electrically adjustable lumbar support as standard to help reduce backache on long journeys. Both front seats come with height adjustment. The back seats are made easy by the wide rear door openings. There's more than enough leg and headroom for passengers over 6-foot tall to get comfortable. Also, with a 40/20/40 split, it offers a variety of cargo and passenger configurations.

At the back, the BMW 540i has the best rear headroom at 38.8 inches, Mercedes E400 has the best shoulder room at 57.1 inches.
The standard satellite navigation system is good but not like AMG models as they get enhanced features. The shortcut buttons to use the beautiful infotainment are placed in the natural hand-resting position when driving the car. To work the touchpad, a bit of skill is needed, but when you drive it daily, it gets to you and you feel very connected.

One cannot expect a lot from a luxury midsize sedan in terms of cargo capacity. The 2018 E400 boot space is 13.1 cu ft. There's more than enough space to carry bags or large suitcases, but the Mercedes raised boot opening means it's not quite as easy to pack full of bulky items. The sedan doesn’t get any option of folding down the luxurious seats for added space.

In terms of boot space, the BMW 540i has the largest boot by volume at 18.7 cu ft. The closest rival to that kind of space is Audi A6 at 14.1 cu ft. Mercedes has the least space at 13.1 cu ft. All the sedans except BMW fall under a similar category, while BMW knocks it out of the park by offering a space to be admired in this segment.
We know the design is highly subjective, but we're head over heels with the way E 400 looks. The alloys are 18 inches, there is a power tilt and slide sunroof and the polished aluminum strips on the doors and windows give it a luxurious look. The design of the car looks absolutely purposeful and premium, which you want at this price. The long wheelbase and lower stance with LED headlights at the front give the sedan a modern and sleek look.
But there is one element that does look a bit too weird. The way the front grille sticks out in front of the headlight, which from some angles looks like it got an extended nose job done, but all in all it looks perfect. The 2018 Mercedes Benz E-Class is 193.8 inches in length and 81.3 inches in width. The wheelbase is 115.7 inches, which provides an ample amount of space and comfort for the passengers.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class holds an overall rating of 5 stars in the coveted NHTSA crash-test. Even the private giant from the crash-testing department like IIHS has awarded the sedan with the best Top Safety Pick+. These brilliant ratings and awards by the most reliable agencies speak a lot about the body strength of the sedan by Mercedes. Along with this bullet-proof body for the safety of passengers, Mercedes Benz E 400 has a host of safety features that are standard such as: -
Audi A6 is almost $9,000 cheaper than the Mercedes E400. This might affect the purchase decision of the buyer. It's 3.0 L TFSI V6 engine is truly a treat if you look for performance and mileage. It has 340 horses that also deliver impressive fuel economy thanks to its 8-speed transmission.
The better acceleration figures of A6 remain an important factor while deciding between these two German giants. Audi has overall better figures but Mercedes has what others fall short of, the luxury. So if you want Mercedes’ luxury, Audi can’t compete there.
The new BMW 5 Series is an excellent saloon that's sportier than the E-Class. Previous gen BMW had curves, but new-gen gets a little sharper in styling, whereas the E400 is elegant and curvy. The interior quality of both cars is absolutely stunning. The seats in both are comfy and provide maximum comfort but BMW 540i XDrive has an edge over the E-Class wheelbase, which increases the space inside the cabin. Also, the boot of E400 is less in volume as compared to BMW. The choice between the two remains a hard task
Ah! Germany vs the USA. Cadillac does have a bigger cubic capacity in engine terms, but it's not close to the sheer German engineering of the Mercedes. The interior of CTS doesn't inspire and is short on space, the shoddy infotainment system is a big letdown. Compare that to E-Class, and you find the seamless integration and user-friendly features that are very easy to use, and the infotainment is a stunner, it's like 2 iPads joined together. In the fuel economy department too, Mercedes is a clear winner thanks to its brilliant 9G-TRONIC transmission.

Overall, the Mercedes E-Class does not have a fun factor plus it's more expensive than the rivals. However, it's super luxurious and really relaxing. The interior of the sedan is a piece of art and needs to be seen and felt. And with the new 3.0L V6 Bi-Turbo engine, it is capable of covering massive distances at a brisk and relaxed pace. In the end, the sedan by Mercedes might not be the best thing but it sure does bring luxury with adequate performance for the customers in the market.
