Overall Rating
The Mercedes-Benz G 550 SUV is offered in a single trim configuration but it comes packed with a lot of features to compensate for its huge price tag. The car has a modern, handcrafted, and uber-luxurious cabin, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, Harman Kardon surround sound system, and a sunroof.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a powerful mid-size SUV offered to the market since the 1980s. The SUV has a boxy design, unlike other SUVs. It was initially developed for military use but later on introduced into the consumer segment and the car was an instant hit.
The assembly of G550 is conducted largely in Graz, Austria, and it is loaded with hefty features and off-road amenities. Buyers are going to get wowed with its amazing off-road capability and three locking differentials, although most of its customers will use the SUV only on newly paved roads. The rivals also have a similar power output but it is the Range Rover that tops it all with a peak power output of 550 HP. The Rover is powered by a 5.0 L Supercharged V8 that is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Next comes the Lincoln Navigator Black Label with a power output of 450 HP, which is powered by a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota Land Cruiser is the least powerful SUV although it sports a massive 5.7L V8 engine.
The G550 SUV with the 4.0 L BiTurbo V8 hits the 0-60 mph mark in just 5.8 seconds. Though this is impressive for a car that weighs nearly 6000 lbs., it does not feel composed at higher speeds. The old platform on which the car was built has an older and a bit sluggish driving dynamics compared to the modern SUV's.

The supercharged Land Rover Range Rover is the quickest to hit the 0 - 60 mph mark in just 4.6 seconds. The second is the Lincoln Navigator Black Label. Though the Lincoln Navigator Black Label has a much smaller engine, it hits the 0 - 60 mph mark in 5.5 seconds.
The G550 is a comfortable SUV. It features 3 locking differentials, which allows you to handle any terrain nature throws at the G550 SUV. The car sits on a high platform and hence has a higher center of gravity. While it does have a great amount of off-road-tech, most owners will likely prefer to ride theirs around town. The offroad character isn't that great, even with the adaptive suspension, which does not seem to respond.
There is a fair amount of body roll while going through turns and corners. Though the car hits higher speeds easily, you feel the car shouldn't be driven at these speeds. The car isn't very stable and is not very confidence-inspiring at higher speeds. The steering is vague and doesn't feel the same in different conditions, which also can be quite unnerving. Overall the SUV is not that great at handling.
The G550 SUV has 12.4-inch brakes on the front and 10.7-inch brakes on the rear to bring the massive SUV to halt. There are 4-piston calipers on the front and rear of the mammoth SUV. The other SUVs feature much larger brakes on the front and rear. Although the shorter wheelbase of the G500 makes it much quicker to come to a stop. Although the brake pedals themselves feel a bit unresponsive and take getting used to.

The Toyota Land Cruiser comes to a halt from 70 mph in 183 ft. whereas the Lincoln Navigator requires 191 ft. for the vehicle to come to a complete stop.
The G550 can tow an impressive 7700 pounds. However, among the behemoths here, the Mercedes G550 comes last. This is mostly due to its shorter wheelbase and 4x4 system. The g500 can tow a measly 3500 pounds.

The SUV isn't the best at getting the most from this fuel. Mercedes tries to showcase the car as a premium vehicle, which means the engine is tuned towards performance, with efficiency in the back seat. The Mercedes G550 SUV has a fuel efficiency figure of 13 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway. It delivers combined fuel efficiency of 13 mpg.

The Toyota Land Cruiser has a seating capacity of eight, which makes it a large and practical SUV. Though the G550 provides the maximum amount of space to the five passengers, it is the Land Cruiser that provides sufficient seating for eight people.
The G550 SUV features a 7 speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound system. The head unit on the center console features a high-resolution screen and has everything integrated into it. The system features some of the best that Mercedes offers, with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and even Navigation.
The infotainment system can be controlled using a rotatable knob that rests on the center console a little behind the gear knob. Some standout interior features in the SUV are:
The G550 SUV has a luggage capacity of 38.6 cubic ft. It is not as big as the one on the Land Cruiser but is larger than the ones on the Navigator and Range Rover. The cargo itself is quite mundane, though the G550 opens the truck door sideways, which can be much better for loading.

The G-Wagon is characterized by its boxy styling and body on frame construction. The boxy design of the G550 though old never fails to impress. There aren't many changes on the exterior of the SUV. Even though the tech and frame are outdated, the looks of the G550 are hard to miss and quite eye-catching.
There is a lot of right-angled edge look rather than the smooth and curved design of the other SUVs

The G550 SUV is heavy with a curb weight of 5724 lbs. It is 177.2 inches long and 71.8 inches wide. The box-type SUV is 76.9 inches high and has a total ground clearance of 8.1 inches. Some standout exterior features in the SUV are:
The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class G550 has all kinds of safety features that are there on most other Mercedes cars. The various features range from lighting assist, crash protection such as airbags and crash prevention techniques. The build quality is solid and durable. And the heavy and clumsy SUV shows character enough that it can take on almost anything. Mercedes further leads the car up with some of the most modern technology like:
The Toyota Land Cruiser is more of a practical SUV. It has a seating capacity of 8, has the largest boot space, and has the best brakes, offers a sufficient amount of space and power. However, it is not made to perform as well as the G550. The G550 has a lot of features and performs well. It is one of those few cars that come with a 3 locking differential, which lets you take on almost all terrain which you face. The G550 is more of a luxury off-road vehicle rather than being a practical SUV.
The Lincoln Navigator Black Label has a seating capacity of seven. However, it has a boot that is smaller than the G550. The Navigator has better fuel efficiency due to the smaller V6 engine. The Navigator is also more of a practical SUV. It has better fuel economy, more seating capacity, and is the longest SUV. The G550 is a five-seater and is built for the offroad.
Although the modern and spacious interiors on the Lincoln Navigator are far above what the G550 offers.
Both the G550 and the Land Rover Range Rover are five seaters. In terms of performance on-road and off-road, it is the Land Rover that beats the Mercedes. The Range Rover has a larger supercharged V8 engine that produces more power output and is quicker than the G550.
The Ranger Rover has all kinds of advanced technologies that help it tackle any terrain you throw at it. Moreover, the Range Rover offers a plush luxury cabin, better handling off-road and on-road. But it is a bit more expensive as compared to the G550.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is not the best performer nor the most practical SUV. It has the luxuries that a Mercedes offers and can handle most of the terrain. Though the G550 can attain high speeds quickly, it has a fair amount of body roll at corners and handles very poorly.
The SUV is still a favorite of many because of its rugged design, road presence, and solid build quality and the G550 is one of those cars that features 3 locking differentials. Although considering the better options in the market, the Mercedes offers very little other than its iconic design for this hefty price tag.
