About 2018 Nissan Murano

3.8

Overall Rating

The Nissan Murano is a perfect blend of all amassed features. The axiomatic interior and exterior of the car give it a stunning look. The 260hp engine is a feature which cannot be ignored. It is a car which offers both style and efficiency. Pricing for the Murano starts at $30,800.

The Nissan Murano debuted for the first time in 2003, and the market witnessed mixed opinions about it. Now, from its unique styling and performance to the myriad features that it possesses, the SUV has it all. The interior is incredibly superior, thanks to the upscale materials, impressive comfy seats, and an array of standard and convenient features. For a starting price tag of about $31,000, it offers user-friendly features such as Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, Nissan Navigation System, Remote Keyless Entry, and Automatic Emergency Braking.

The 2018 Murano stands tough against its prominent competitors like Santa Fe, Ford Edge, and Kia Sorento. It is not the best SUV you get at this price point but due to its value for money package, it is worth considering. The Murano offers modern-day equipment that includes an advanced infotainment system along with more driver assist safety features with the 2018 update. However, it is a mid-size crossover SUV that still suffers from boring driving dynamics and an average predicted reliability rating.

Keeping in mind the prices of all versions of the car, if you are looking for an SUV for both short and long drives, you certainly need to go for the SL version. It is not priced as high as the Platinum version and has exciting features such as the Bose Music System.

Keeping in mind the prices of all versions of the car, if you are looking for an SUV for both short and long drives, you certainly need to go for the SL version. It is not priced as high as the Platinum version and has exciting features such as the Bose Music System, heated steering wheel, heated side mirrors, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree view parking camera, and a hands-free power liftgate.

Engine and Performance
7.9/10

The 2018 Nissan Murano comes powered with a 3.5L DOHC 24-Valve V6 engine that generates 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. It adheres to Nissan's logic of the larger the name, the better the functioning and efficiency. The V6 motor is punchy enough and has a good amount of low-end grunt. The engine is hooked to a CVT transmission that is made with various grooves to reduce the rubberband effect. The engine feels refined and can munch miles all day long. However, doing quick overtakes is not very easy as the engine runs out of breath at high RPMs. Overall, it gets the job done of transporting people without much fuss.

Even with an advanced CVT unit, on harsh acceleration, you will feel the typical CVT delay. Thus, it is not a vehicle meant to be driven hard as its tilt towards fuel efficiency is obvious.

Though it has faced tough competition from cars such as Santa Fe, it is still a great performance car. With smooth and good engine performance, the car is totally adaptable to conditions of a city, mountains, highway, or any other scenario. When compared, only Santa Fe manages to beat Murano in power output.

Acceleration

The Nissan Murano can reach 0 mph to 60 mph in about 7.8 seconds which is not that bad for a mid-size crossover SUV. The 3.5L powertrain takes away all the credit for it. This feature makes the SUV a responsive car with an excellent balance in all aspects. Most of the cars in the segment emit a similar quantity of Carbon Dioxide.

It excels in most of the aspects from its competitors, although the time taken to accelerate from 0 to 60mph is less, however, it is covered with the quality of the engine and the less rate of carbon dioxide emitted. This helps Nissan Murano to outclass the biggest competitor i.e. Santa Fe.

Braking

The 2018 Nissan Murano gets a large 12.6-inch disc rotor at the front and a 12.1-inch rotor at the rear. Nissan again excels in the braking comparison. The distance of 119ft taken from 60 to 0 mph shows the authority of the brakes. This sets it apart from its competitors. The front and the rear brakes are also balanced.

The brakes are also aided by a host of electronics, which include ABS, EBD, and Brake Assist. The brake assist feature is a new addition to the Murano which works flawlessly in an emergency situations.

The Murano is on the lighter side when compared to the rivals in the segment. The SUV weighs 3,769 lbs. However, the sophisticated braking system with its modern electronics has improved its stopping power significantly. The SUV can come to a halt from 60 MPH in just 119 feet. The Kia Sorento takes up to 130 ft to come to a complete halt.

Handling

The 2018 Nissan Murano is a comfortable SUV to drive. However, the steering is a bit too soft at highway speeds, which might take away the confidence. At city speeds, the Murano is easy to maneuver in tight spaces. The larger 20-inch wheels might look good, but it transfers most of the vibrations into the cabin while you hit a large bump or a pothole. However, if you go for the 18-inch standard wheels, the ride is comparably composed, even on rougher sections of roads.

The Murano with its tall stance does have a notable amount of roll in corners. The quick burst of power is rewarded only at highway speeds, which might tempt you to push the engine to the higher revs for small overtakes. The overall ride quality is good by SUV standards. However, if you are a person who wants to be chauffeur-driven, the Murano may fall back in impressing you with the ride quality.
