Overall Rating
The Porsche 911 Carrera needs no introduction, and with so many options available in the Carrera lineup what makes the Carrera T really special is the bigger question. Well the big ‘T’ at its end is the answer to that question and you might call it a bargain for the redline GT3. The ‘T’ basically stands for Touring but the definition doesn’t really fits the Product.
The 911 Carrera T is an entry-level Porsche in the Carrera lineup with probably the lightest 911 body ever. The standard 911 Carrera and Carrera T are pretty much the same and even under the hood they share the same 3.0-liter flat-six twin-turbo engine that produces the same 370 horsepower but the real difference starts inside with the mirrors getting thinner, and features getting kicked out. The Carrera T is what you would be looking for if you want to claim the bragging rights of owning a weight-reduction-specific sports car.
The optional fixed back bucket seats and the completely stripped out second row just adds to the race-car like build of the 911 Carrera T. While all other manufacturers refer to the evolution of their vehicles based on the generation nomenclature, Porsche has a unique way of naming and differentiating their vehicles. That said, the 2018 version of the Porsche 911 Carrera T belongs to the 991 Series of the Porsche 911 line of vehicles. The 2018 911 Carrera T currently competes against Mercedes AMG GT and the Jaguar F-type.
The 2018 Porsche Carrera lineup has several options but the Carrera T is one of its kind. The 911 Carrera T is a performance-focused Porsche and in order to make it light, Porsche actually removed everything that they felt fancy, but you can get them back without paying extra. The Carrera T has been referred to as a driver’s purist car but for the price that it carries and not many big differentiating factors, you might have to think twice about that statement.
The Carrera T is a bargain when compared to the other performance-focussed 911 GT3 trim and keeps the same powerhouse as the standard Carrera, Porsche took out everything to reduce the weight for better performance hence, it lacks the functionality as well as the practicality of a standard Carrera which is more affordable. And if you are fine with it, the Carrera T is exactly made for you.

The Carrera T has a price tag of $102,100 and offers almost the same features as the Carrera. The Carrera T comes standard with Bi-Xenon Headlights with Xenon HID headlamps, LED daytime running light, Power steering, Power seats, manual transmission, and luckily the American version also features an infotainment system with Porsche Connect compared to the UK version that gets an in-dash hole or a storage cubby, you might call it.

The 911 Carrera T is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six-cylinder gasoline-powered engine that produces 370 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. The powerhouse is the same as the standard Carrera but what makes it more fun is its 7-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drivetrain. There is also no denying the fact that it is one of the best-sounding turbo engines around.
While the engine and power output are particularly the same as the regular Carrera, the Carrera T improves the performance thanks to its lower weight. While the optional 7-speed automatic PDK works like a charm, the 7-speed manual is the way to go as it offers a more involved driving experience.

When looking at power output, the Porsche Carrera T is the last in the race, with the Jaguar F-type taking the second place the Mercedes AMG GT takes the lead featuring a massive 469 horsepower producing 4.0-liter V-8 powerhouse with a 7-speed manual transmission. Just like the Carrera lineup, the Jaguar F-Type has a few more engine options that offer a lot more power than the 3.0-liter Supercharged V-6 mentioned in the table above.
In the Porsche 911 Carrera lineup, there are multiple options that can offer supercar-like performance figures easily. As for the Porsche Carrera T with its 7-speed Manual transmission, it can hit 60 MPH from a standstill in just 4.4 seconds while there is no data on the quarter-mile margin. Well, the performance might not be impressive as others but man the way it revs to higher rpm is just awesome.
The 7-speed PDK transmission can cut the 0 - 60 MPH time by 0.3 seconds and offer you a time of 4.1 seconds.

The Porsche Carrera T is not the best performing car in the whole segment. The AMG GT with its massive V-8 and roadster style body races from 0 - 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds. The Jaguar F-type crosses the 60 MPH mark in 4.8 seconds, 0.4 seconds slower than the Porsche (911 Carrera T that has a 0 - 60 MPH time of 4.4 seconds.
The handling of the 911 Carrera T is as sensational as any other 911. It is sensitive, responsive, agile, sharp at corners, easy on traffic, and offers the same thrilling drive experience as any existing 911. The Carrera T features electric power steering, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, different drive modes, and manual transmission to make it more fun. The Carrera T is the same as the standard Carrera and can be your daily driving car but what makes for the other $11,000 is the added sports exhaust, torque vectoring with limited-slip differentials, and Sports Chrono with an option of rear-wheel steering, now where do you get that.
Not only that, the Carrera T features thinner windows and has a more race-focused interior which makes it really livelier. Not to forget the absence of sound-deadening material in the cabin so as to further decrease the weight of the vehicle. But keep in mind that you will have to be ready to listen to an array of cabin noises along with a stiffer ride thanks to its driver-focussed setup.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T features 13 inch-ventilated discs for both the front and rear brake set up along with a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system(ABS). It also comes equipped with some braking tech such as the emergency braking assist. Well, there is no data on the braking distance or time, but the lighter body and more race-focused performance sure offers intensive braking. But sure is a disappointment in association with the absence of brake drying or emergency braking preparation, that too at this price point.

The Mercedes-AMG GT undoubtedly has the best braking setup and with a 60 - 0 MPH stopping distance of 96 feet, it is an un-’stoppable’ force! The Jaguar F-Type might have big brakes in the front when compared to the others, its rear brakes are smaller than the others. Since we do not have the 60 - 0 MPH stopping distance information for the Porsche 911 and the Jaguar F-Type, we cannot base a proper comparison between them.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T is a 911 designed to offer the thrill of a racing Porsche on the usual roads at a rather ‘affordable’ price. But who knew that despite being so performance-focused, it could do 16 miles per gallon in the city,25 miles per gallon on the highway, and maintain a combined MPG of 19 miles. But one big let-down is its puny fuel tank capacity of 16.9 gallons that seriously eats into the overall range you can expect. But by driving in ‘Normal’ mode, you might be able to add a mile or two to the MPG figures.

The Jaguar F-Type’s fuel economy figures are absolutely marvelous with a combined MPG of 23 miles and a combined range of 425.5 miles making it the most fuel-efficient in the segment. Even though the Porsche 911 Carrera T’s combined MPG is 1 mile more than that of the Mercedes-AMG GT, its 16.9-gallon fuel tank lets down its range offering.
The Carrera T is comfortable, and that’s all you get. As mentioned earlier, when it comes to practicality or functionality you don't get much but still, have good ergonomics. The base Carrera T offers two-seat, no door handles, a halfhearted infotainment system, and a fully loaded Gauge cluster as Porsche applied their weight shedding principle into developing this car. But you can get all that back for free.Â
And so the loaded Carrera T comes standard with, power steering, loaded in-dash infotainment system, a center console, glove box, climate control, and all those fancy features standard in the Carrera along with 4-way power driver/2-way manual passenger sports seat, split/folding rear seats, Alcantara interiors with body-color stitching and tons of trim options.
Opt for the fixed back bucket seats and you will be surprised with the comfort these seats offer even though they are a lot more track focussed.Â

There are no space dimensions available for the Porsche 911 Carrera T making it difficult to compare with its competition. But based on the information that is available, the Mercedes-AMG GT offers the most amount of passenger space among the competitors. But the second-row seats offered in the Carrera T adds to the practicality of this vehicle. The rear seats might be cramped, but at least might come to use in emergency situations. Some of the key interior features in the 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T are:
The American variant of the Porsche Carrera T luckily features an infotainment system with enough features to fulfill the needs. The standard infotainment features include an in-dash color display with Porsche connect and Porsche Communication management. It also features an 8-speaker sound system with 150-watt stereo output, AM/FM stereo, auxiliary audio input, USB connectivity, DVD player, and satellite radio. The system might not be the best you might have come across but gets the job done. These are some of the infotainment features offered:
The 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T offers a boot space of 5.1 cubic feet, which is the least in the whole class useless if you are planning to go on long journeys. But these cars are not designed with all-out practicality in mind as they are more of an experience-inducing automobile. The cabin also lacks storage spaces with just a few cubbies in the lower center console and a glove compartment that is apt for storing small items. While the normal seat configuration has second-row seats, the sport seats have some space behind the first-row seats that adds some extra storage space.Â

The Jaguar F-Type offers the most cargo space with an 11.0 cubic feet trunk capacity, followed by the Mercedes-AMG GT that offers a 10.1 cubic feet cargo space. The Porsche 911 Carrera T has a questionable 5.1 cubic feet of cargo space that drastically decreases its practical aspect compared to its competition.
The Carrera T has the usual 911 body styling with its shining LED DRLs while the Bi-Xenon lights complement its aggressive looks, have a sleek side profile with a cool-looking Carrera T logo. As for the rear, the slant rear design, classic Porsche logo, sleek LED taillights, and roaring exhaust just makes it look aggressively stunning. Despite being in the market for so long this car still stands out.
As for the weight and dimensions, the Carrera T is obviously lighter than the standard Carrera but has the same dimensions. It is 178.2 inches long and 71.5 inches wide with a body height of 50.6 inches keeping it low and small but spacious enough. It has 4.3 inches of ground clearance just perfect for the highways with a small wheelbase of 96.5 suiting its smaller body.

The Jaguar F-Type is the heaviest of the lot with a curb weight of 3,691 pounds, followed by the Mercedes-AMG GT that weighs 3,560 pounds. The AMG GT surprisingly offers 4.9 inches of ground clearance even with its aggressive hunkered design. The Porsche 911 Carrera T is the lightest vehicle while also having the smallest wheelbase. These are some of its exterior features:
The new Porsche 911 Carrera T has not been crash-tested either by the NHTSA or the IIHS. You get the same safety features on the Carrera T that are standard in the regular 911 Carrera. The standard safety system includes a dual front side-mounted airbag with passenger airbag deactivation, daytime running lamps, 4-wheel ABS, traction control, stability control, and an anti-theft alarm system. Other features include self-leveling headlamps, engine immobilizer, emergency braking assist, high-pressure washer headlamps, tire pressure monitor, and dusk-sensing/auto delay headlamps. These are some of the salient safety features offered in the 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T:
The new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is one of the best performance cars that Mercedes offers today. Its vehicle dynamics, performance, and comfort are on a different level than the Porsche. The AMG GT costs $112,400 dollars and is the fastest car in the whole segment. It looks stunning, drives amazing, has awesome power delivery, is luxurious, has good ergonomics, and has more options to it. When it comes to driving, ride quality, and having fun, the Porsche might be on the same level but in terms of practicality, functionality, and comfort the AMG has the upper hand.
The new Jaguar F-type 380hp is the entry-level car in the F-type lineup. Just like the AMG and Porsche it is a total driver's car, has amazing vehicle dynamics, offers awesome ride quality, and gives a thrilling drive experience. The F-Type sure lacks a bit in performance figures but the moment you ride it you forget everything. It has the most aggressive, stunning looking body in the whole segment, the best sounding exhaust, one of the best interiors and despite being the last in the segment in terms of power output, you are probably going to buy it over both the Porsche and the AMG GT thanks to its user-friendly dynamics.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T is a tourer as the name suggests. In terms of functionality, practicality, and interior comfort, it is the last in the segment and if you are looking for those qualities in a Porsche, you can buy the standard Carrera. The Carrera T as claimed by Porsche is going to give you the closest experience of being in a race car on the usual road. There is no doubt that it can be your daily driving car and you can get almost all the features as in the standard Carrera. The Carrera T will not caress you to comfort but will wake you up with a jolt thanks to its low slung design and stiff ride. And if that's not your concern at all, then this is the car for you, and once you get the taste of thrill it offers, you are going to be hooked with it forever.
