About 2018 RAM 1500

3.9

Overall Rating

RAM 1500 gets unparalleled interior features and certainly offers a better cabin experience than its competitors. There are also many trims to choose from, depending on budget.

The 2018 RAM 1500 Crew Cab comes with an impressive combination of performance, capability, and practicality. High on comfort and infotainment technology too, the RAM 1500 aims to be a perfect companion for your daily grinds as well as a comfortable cruising truck. The RAM 1500 is offered with several powertrain options, including a 3.0L turbocharged diesel V6 and 5.7L gasoline V8. The latter comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and puts down enough grunt to get pretty much any regular job done. Whether you’re on the job or cruising down the highway on a weekend, the truck promises a comfortable yet utilitarian experience for you to enjoy.

With so many trims to choose from, picking the correct one can get confusing. We would suggest going for the Laramie trim, as it offers the most value for money. The Laramie comes with a sufficiently plush cabin, while also offering plenty of active safety assists. Hauling capacity doesn’t take much of a bad hit either, offering a balance between luxury, technology, and capability.

2018 RAM 1500 Review

Pros

  • Outstanding Air Suspension
  • Great Infotainment Features
  • Comfortable, Plush Cabin
  • Excellent reliability

Cons

  • Lacks Active Safety Features
  • Low Towing Capacity

RAM 1500 gets unparalleled interior features and certainly offers a better cabin experience than its competitors. There are also many trims to choose from, depending on budget.

Overview

Pricing and Features
6.0/10

The 2018 RAM 1500 is offered in 5 major trims, covering a wide range of luxury and utilitarian features. The base Tradesman starts from $27,295 and goes all the way up to Limited trim which costs $53,295. With 5 trim levels, you have 3 excellent engine options. The first one is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that makes a healthy 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Then you have the 5.7L HEMI V8 producing 395 horsepower with 410 pound-feet of torque. Lastly, the new 3.0L V6 diesel makes 240 horses but a whopping 420 pound-feet of torque. The following table gives an overview of all the trims and features offered with the 2018 RAM 1500.

As you go up the trim ladder, the RAM 1500 just keeps getting nicer and pricier. Higher trims such as the Longhorn and the Limited offer compromised towing capacities, but offer splendid luxury features. The cabin just keeps getting fancier as you go up, while the exterior gets premium upgrades to stand out from lower trims. Infotainment also gradually improves Laramie onwards, and the 1500 ends up offering a lot of technology and creature comforts by the time you reach the Limited trim.

2018 RAM 1500 Crew Cab Buying Advice

With so many trims to choose from, picking the correct one can get confusing. We would suggest going for the Laramie trim, as it offers the most value for money. The Laramie comes with a sufficiently plush cabin, while also offering plenty of active safety assists. Hauling capacity doesn’t take much of a bad hit either, offering a balance between luxury, technology, and capability.

Engine and Performance
8.8/10

The standard RAM 1500 comes with a 3.6L V6, capable of churning out an impressive 305 horsepower and a decent 269 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic, which isn’t exactly sporty but manages to shuffle power just fine. The engine feels potent and can comfortably haul stuff without an issue.

The transmission, however, is a little tardy and can have a tricky time deciding what gear to put you in. The 2018 RAM 1500 is offered with a rear-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive layout, and the performance numbers change a bit accordingly.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers the most torque out of its 4.3L V6, while the RAM 1500 manages to deliver a little more torque than the Ford F-150 manages to put down. The RAM also comes with an 8-speed gearbox, which isn’t necessarily better than the Ford F-150's 6-speed.

7.6/10

The RAM 1500 being a heavy-hauling truck, doesn’t come with the best fuel economy. The mileage figures, however, aren’t all that bad. While the all-wheel-drive variants come with crippling fuel economy, the rear-wheel-drive RAM 1500 with the 3.6L V6 manages to return 17 miles to the gallon in the city, and a decent 25 miles per gallon on highways. The result is a combined MPG figure of 20, which is respectable for a pickup truck. The 2018 RAM 1500 also comes fitted with a heart 32-gallon fuel tank, which lets the truck traverse up to 672 miles on the highway without refueling.

The RAM 1500 features comfortable seats that come with 10-way and 6-way power adjustment, and offer heating and cooling options. The steering wheel comes clad in leather, and sports heating facilities for chilly days. The center console is quite busy with buttons, and while they’re chunky and utilitarian, they’re all over the place and can get rather distracting. The RAM truck comes with high-quality materials and good finishes in higher trims and offers plenty of luxury options if you’re willing to spend a few extra dollars. The interior certainly doesn’t disappoint.
