Overall Rating
The all-new Volvo V60 is the revised version of the 2016 model but arrives in an improved state. It is in the wagon category so the obvious competitors are the Audi A4 Allroad and the Subaru Outback 3.6 R Limited.
The all-new Volvo V60 is the revised version of the 2016 model but arrives in an improved state. It is in the wagon category so the obvious competitors are the Audi A4 Allroad and the Subaru Outback 3.6 R Limited. Talking about affordability, the V60 is not very pricey and offers best in class mileage
An AWD system is a must for a wagon to perform in off-road conditions. Unfortunately, the Dynamic and Cross Country variants lack AWD. It would be safer for you to go for the R-design rather than Polestar which doesn't have any additional features except the Polestar tag.

Wagons are known for their all-terrain capability and rough terrains require AWD. But Dynamic and Cross Country lack AWD. The R-Design and Polestar feature AWD and an improved engine as well. They produce 50 more hp than the remaining two and that's a big difference.

The V60 features a 2.0L 16 valve turbocharged engine which makes 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is fitted in Dynamic and Cross Country trims, whereas R-Design and Polestar models have got a turbo and supercharged 2.0L engine which produces 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. AWD and 8-speed automatic is standard in all trims.

The V60 lags behind the Audi A4 and the Subaru and ties with the V90. What will happen if you race with a car having 10-15 hp more. Subaru has got a bigger engine and the Audi A4's TFSI gives it the advantage. Volvo is using an old automatic transmission which is far too slow for the rivals. Don't forget the price factor, the V60 is $6000 less than the Audi A4.
Handling is a major factor to be considered before buying a car, it is the car's ability to go through sharp corners at high speeds. Thanks to the full-time all-wheel-drive system in V60 which makes the full from all 4 wheels and can go quite fast through corners. It shifts the power between the front and rear axle during a corner so that its behavior becomes so predictable that it can be controlled easily.
The Shockers are pretty stiff, but the car holds the road well. Talking about the suspension, it is not adjustable for road and off-road conditions. It has only the factory settings which are comfortable in city drive. It has got low ground clearance hence the shocks are quite stiff. The V60 may provide a harsh ride during off-road conditions.
The Volvo V60 impresses with its braking and comes to a standstill from 60 MPH in just 118 feet which is extremely good for a wagon. The brake pedal feels soft due to power assistance and stays consistent throughout. In case of panic braking, the V60 has ABS with ESC (electronic stability control) and directional stability control which allows it to stop in a no-nonsense way.

The Subaru Outback performs the poorest in braking taking 125 feet to stop from 60 MPH. The V60's big brother, the Volvo V90 has the most powerful brakes even after being the heaviest car in the lot. It comes to halt from 60 MPH in just 110 feet making it the best in the business.
Even though the V60 has sluggish acceleration, it has the advantage of mileage figures due to its small displacement engine. The car has a mileage of 25 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and a combined mileage of 29 mpg. Fuel economy is the major factor influencing the ongoing cost of the car.

The clear leader in this category is Volvo V60 which is followed by yet another Volvo wagon, the V90. Subaru Outback carries the biggest engine amongst the competition and that is the reason behind its low efficiency.
For providing utmost comfort, the V60 seats are ergonomically designed and also offer armrests. The V60 behind the Subaru is providing enough room to the occupants and also from the V90 but is slightly in front of the Audi A4 Allroad. The legroom for rear passengers is sufficient but seems lacking against the rivals.

The heated seats and the steering wheel are now standard in V60 and also the sports seats are optional. The shoulder and headroom in the back seat should be enough for average height people. Subaru Outback has the biggest cabin and is wide enough to accommodate 3 passengers comfortably in the rear while the headroom the A4 Allroad offers is the best and a 6-footer can sit comfortably enough.
Some of the interior features in the 2018 Volvo V60 Wagon are:
The Volvo V60 offers a decent 28 cubic feet of cargo space when the 2nd row is in use which is quite well and better than some rivals. However, when you fold the second row the cargo space is pretty low i.e. 43.8 cubic feet.

The Outback outclasses every car that competes when it comes to Cargo capacity. The car has 35.5 cubic feet of space when the second row is being used and 73.3 cubic feet of cargo storage when the second row is down.
The Volvo is using its very own Sensus Connect infotainment system in the 2018 V60. This system uses a 7" central display and provides navigation, voice control, and an audio system. The audio system includes 8 speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, a CD player, and satellite and HD radio. There is an optional system which is called the Harman Kardon sound system along with 12 speakers and some vision packages.
This infotainment system lags and goes unresponsive to touches sometimes. The rivals offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay which is not available in the V60 making it a big setback for the car. Some important infotainment features are:
The first thing that will catch your eyes in the 2018 Volvo V60 is the Thor's Hammer LED front headlamps. A long hood and the multi-slat chrome grill makes the car look luxurious. The car is the shortest of the lot but is quite wide and offers a decent height.
The ground clearance of the V60 is 5.4-inches which is the lowest but that won't be a problem as it's not built for off-roading.

The Volvo V90 is the heaviest, longest, and the widest car amongst competitors and because of its length, it has the longest wheelbase which adds up to the legroom in the car. Some of the exterior styling features in the 2018 Volvo V60 Wagon are:
Volvo is known for its safety and comfort provided in their cars. The V60 is loaded with a variety of features that aid the safety of the occupants. IIHS Rates the 2018 Volvo V60 as good in all the safety tests conducted by them. The NHTSA has not rated the Volvo V60 yet. This car has longitudinal beams to bear side-impact and in the front is a properly engineered crumple zone. Moving to higher trims, they got a knee airbag for the driver and also the airbag occupancy sensor.
The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the Roll Stability Control (RSC) are quite helpful while driving the car faster. Also got ABS and driveline traction control, but the ABS is unable to stop the car in a short distance as compared to the rivals. It has got a rear parking sensor if you are not good at reverse parking. The reverse parking camera is optional. Some of the safety features in the new Volvo V60 Wagon are listed below:
The Audi A4 Allroad is the fastest and the quickest on the list. It is equally as spacious as the V60 is. So, if you don't bother about the price and mileage and want some tire screeching wagon with exquisite interiors you should consider the Allroad as an option.
The Subaru Outback 3.6R is a great contender in the list. It is the lowest in price, the maximum amount of room (passenger and cargo), best ride quality, and comfort. If you do not worry about the mileage, should definitely go for the Subaru Outback 3.6R.
Overall the Volvo V60 is a car worth buying. It is not one of the most spacious wagons out there, but if you consider mileage over the available space in the car, opt for the V60. The new V60 is decently fast, has a classy interior, sporty looks, a good engine, and most importantly, superior handling. The disappointing infotainment and low cargo space might compel you to reconsider investing in this wagon but0 if you are looking for an all-in-one car, the 2018 Volvo V60 is the one to look for.
