The Volvo XC60 is available in three trims: Momentum, R-design, and Inscription. There are 3 engine options available: T5, T6, and a Hybrid T8. Momentum gets a 2-liter inline-4 turbocharged T5 engine, R-design and Inscription get a 2-liter inline-4 turbocharged and supercharged T6 engine. The hybrid engine produces 400 horsepower and a massive torque of 472lb.-ft. All the engines are offered with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and offer a choice between front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The Momentum trim is quite well-equipped and some of the features include LED headlights and taillights, automatic high beams, automatic wipers, integrated roof rails, a power liftgate with programmable height, leather upholstery, aluminum interior trim, a panoramic sunroof, automatic dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming mirror, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats among other features. We Recommend
While the other car makers keep their base trims simple, Volvo has done an excellent job by equipping its XC60's base trim with a handsome list of features in sync with technology. The base trim Momentum is loaded with features that are almost similar to that of the top trim. The Momentum trim is the best option if you want a balance of performance and luxury.
The 2018 Volvo XC60 offers three engine options. The base T5 powertrain is a 2.0 Inline-4 turbocharged engine that generates 250 horsepower at 5500 rpm and a torque of 258 lb.-ft at 1500 rpm. The second powertrain from the T6 is a 2.0-liter Inline-4 twin-charged (turbocharged & supercharged) engine generating 316 horsepower and a torque of 295 lb.-ft.
All powertrains are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with an option for an FWD or AWD layout depending on preference. The third engine option is a 2.0-liter Inline-4 Turbocharged/Supercharged Engine coupled with an 87 hp Electric Motor is a Hybrid powertrain that generates 400 Horsepower at 6000 rpm and a beefy torque of 472 lb.-ft @ 5400 rpm. The battery is a Lithium-ion unit and provides a capacity of 10kWh. The base powertrain is smooth and lag-free but the twin-charged engine is the one that provides some fun while driving. The Hybrid unit is the most powerful among the three and delivers as promised.

In comparison to the basic T5 XC60, the Audi Q5 and the Porsche Macan offer more power and more torque with Q5's base price is exactly the same as the XC60. But on higher trims, the T6 and T8, the XC60 offers drastically better performance and efficiency. The Porsche Macan also has an S variant which offers a considerably more powerful V-6.
The 2018 XC60 doesn't play around when it comes to quick acceleration. The engine provides sufficient punch and the car reaches 0-60 mph in just 6.1 seconds, with the T6 engine, which is quicker than its rivals. Only the Audi Q5 beats the XC60 with a marginal difference. the Volvo XC60's powertrain responds perfectly as the car gets going with just a tap on the gas pedal. There is adequate power in all the powertrains to get the SUV moving, and none of them feel sluggish however, you might feel the base T5 motor to be a bit slower to accelerate owing to its power and torque figures but it sure isn't laggy. The T5 engine takes about 7.3 seconds to touch the 60 mph mark.

Meanwhile, the T8 engine takes only 4.9 seconds to reach 60 mph losing out only to the Porsche Macan S with its turbocharged V-6 option. In the base spec trim, all the competitors are comparably powered, though the Volvo is a bit on the slower side, which can be attributed to its FWD.
The Volvo XC60 is equipped with a new suspension system that is more active, is more stable, and also minimizes the body roll. The SUV remains smooth, composed over bad roads but lacks that fun-to-drive factor. In the comfort mode, the car eases out bumps, particularly on the rear seats, and offers a composed ride, although it can have a bit of body roll.
The steering is quite light which makes it easier to drive at lower speeds. Compared to its rivals, the Porsche Macan has the best driving dynamics followed by the Audi Q5. The BMW X3 is also quite engaging to drive but lacks the fun factor of both the Q5 and the Macan.
Volvo has equipped the XC60 with automatic braking for city safety which allows the driver to steer around objects rather than braking. The brakes are nice and responsive at lower speeds but feel touchy when braking at high speed. But you can rest assured that since it's a Volvo and the vehicle will never compromise on your safety.

Even after weighing 4322 lbs which is quite a bit heavier than almost all of its competitors, the XC60 comes to a stop at 114 feet from 60 mph which is almost equal to its rivals and is better than the Porsche Macan.
Volvo increased the towing capacity of the 2018 Volvo XC60 as compared to its predecessor. The XC60 can now tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds. Although with the front-wheel-drive layout this is still quite low as compared to most of its competitors.

The Audi Q5 and the Porsche Macan have a towing capacity of 4,400 and 4,409 pounds respectively. The BMW X3 is at par with the XC60 in terms of towing capacity. It’s not a car that you can carry a small camper van along with, though a small trailer or even a small boat can be easily towed.
Volvo is quite serious when it comes to fuel efficiency. The Volvo XC60 is one of the most fuel-efficient crossovers in the market with 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on highways, this car will definitely not be a burden on your pocket and might also save you some money as compared to its rivals. The smaller power output signifies greater efficacy as compared to its competitors. Considering the range, the Volvo XC60 T5 can go 450 miles on a full tank, which is more than almost each of its competitors.

The XC60 is second only to the BMW X3 when it comes to fuel efficiency. BMWs are known for their highly precise and perfect engines, which always offer great mileage. While the X3 and XC60 are the most fuel-efficient cars, the Audi Q5, and the Porsche Macan have lesser fuel-efficient power mills although by a less margin.
The interiors of the 2018 XC60 are highly upscale and well designed. The redesign for this model year made the SUV wider than before and this led to having great space at the rear, with even 3 passengers being able to sit comfortably. The front seats are particularly comfortable with great bolstering and cushioning to allow sinking into. On higher trims, all seats can be heated and cooled. While a massage function is also offered optionally.Â
The interior has 4-zone climate control available and heated seats on the rear. The dashboard is well designed and has the characteristic wood grain design flowing in a straight line. Overall it’s a clean and roomy place to be, with simplicity the main focus of the designers rather than a plethora of gimmicky buttons and switches.

Volvo is known for its interior design and comfort. The XC60 has the best in class seats with the right amount of cushioning and posture. The car provides enough space to stretch your legs but it still looks a bit congested as the headroom it offers is the lowest in the segment. The car has enough shoulder space for seating 3 adults comfortably in the rear. Getting out of the car is easy as the doors open wide, almost to 90-degrees. Standard interior features include:
The Volvo XC60 comes with a 9-inch Sensus infotainment system. The giant touchscreen is fit in portrait rather than in landscape. The screen is bright, crisp, and is easy to operate on. A large 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster dominated the instrument panel, which adds a touch of modernity. The R-Design and Inscription trims get their infotainment with Navigation as standard. Infotainment features include:
The XC60 definitely has practicality pinned down and is the most spacious and utilitarian car on the lineup. The Volvo XC60 offers huge cargo space and it also has one of the biggest boots in the segment. XC60 provides a storage space of 29.8-cubic feet with rear seats in use. With rear seats folded, a storage space of 63.3-cubic feet is available in Volvo XC60 which is one of the best in class. The 60/40 rear seat split-fold is available as standard in XC60.

The base trim Momentum gets a power liftgate which makes it easier to load your luggage or essentials easily in a car. The upper-level trims, R-Design, and Inscription get a hands-free power liftgate and power-folding rear seats. To make the XC60 sleek and compact, Volvo lowered the cargo size as compared to its predecessor but it is still much bigger than most of its rivals.
The handsome clean styling from its larger sibling the Volvo XC90 has been successfully put up on the smaller XC60. The XC60 definitely looks the money, and the clean stylish accents make it a definite looker. The classic T-shaped LED accents and the full-LED headlamps bump up the design, as do the full LED bar-like tail lamps.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 may not be the longest or the widest car but is surely the heaviest of the lot. XC60 has the best ground clearance amongst its rivals and its longer wheelbase provides more cabin space. The XC60 is longer than the Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan. The BMW X3 wins the race in length and height which adds to the cargo space of the car. The 2018 Volvo XC60 sees lots of improvements in the Exterior like:
Volvo is known to make some of the safest cars on the planet. There are truly some innovative and advanced safety techs on board the XC60 that ensure the car cocoons the passengers inside during a crash and save them from crashing onto anyone on the outside as well. Unsurprisingly, the Volvo XC60 has been rated very highly by the IIHS and the NHTSA. The new Volvo XC60 has been awarded the highest ratings in terms of safety and the car offers all of its impressive safety features as standard. The car has even been awarded as the “Top Safety Pick 2018” by the IIHS. Some standout features include:
The new Audi Q5 is one of the most popular crossovers since its launch in 2009. The second-generation Audi Q5 has got a refreshed look, has more power, good efficiency, and an upgraded tech suit. The Q5 is faster, offers more space, and has much better handling than Volvo XC60. Q5 reaches the 60mph mark in 5.9 seconds which is faster than that of XC60 by just a tiny bit. On the other hand, the interior and comfort that Volvo XC60 provides are unmatchable. The base trims of both Q5 and XC60 are equal in price and have almost the same features. Although the Audi offers AWD as standard throughout the range.
While comparing upper-level trims, Volvo XC60 sure has an advantage. They have more available engine options that are higher in power with almost the same fuel efficiency as that of the Audi Q5. Also, XC60 offers an optional Hybrid engine that generates 400 horsepower at the same price as the Q5's top trim.
The Volvo XC60 feels a bit overpriced, but the new Porsche Macan makes it look small with the base trim priced $6000 more than XC60. Macan offers an upgrade option to a more powerful V-6 engine which generates 440 horsepower. If you consider power and technology as well as daily usability, the Volvo most definitely beats the Macan. Although in the performance spectrum, as well as for drivability, very few SUVs in the world can compete with the Macan.
The new BMW X3 has got some refreshed looks and has improved technology as compared to the 2017 X3. the X3 comes in at a higher premium than the Volvo, though it still lacks in terms of interior feel, and luxury. The X3 offers more cabin space, better handling, and a better driving experience. If you're looking for performance along with an exquisite interior, Volvo XC60 is the best option.
Safety, comfort, elegance, and luxury are what defines the 2018 Volvo XC60. With a larger cabin and beautifully redesigned interior, the Volvo XC60 offers exquisite technology wrapped up in a luxurious package. Volvo XC60 looks perfect in all dimensions, with the eye-catching exterior to an adhering interior. Volvo put its main focus on comfort and smooth ride quality. Even though the engine is powerful but yet isn't as sporty as you would expect. Most notably the SUV is one of the safest vehicles on the planet. If pure performance is what you crave in your car, Audi Q5, Porsche Macan, and BMW X3 are the ones to look for.
