The 2019 BMW 3 Series is available in a single 330i trim level. A performance variant, M340i will go on sale later in 2019 (essentially for the 2020 model year). The 330i sedan comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that propels 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Transmission duties are carried out by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the GT model, the 330i gets rear-wheel drive as standard and All-wheel drive (called xDrive) is optional.

The 330i is offered with some impressive value added packages that help you customize your sedan in a better way. Opting the Convenience package gets you features like keyless entry, LED headlights, satellite radio, and active blind-spot monitoring.

The Premium package adds features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, a navigation system, a 10.25-inch display screen, Apple CarPlay (subscription-basis), and BMW's Connected Package Professional, which combines remote and concierge services with real-time traffic information.

The Executive package offers upgraded adaptive LED headlights with automatic high-beam control, side- and top-view parking cameras, a self-parking system, and gesture control functions.

People looking for some sporty drive may opt for the Track Handling package, which includes an electronic locking rear differential, upgraded brakes and a sport-tuned suspension. Sadly, for 2019 you don't have many trims to choose from other than the 330i. If you can wait until next year, you can get the performance-oriented M340i. It all depends on what kinda driver you are. If you are just a daily driver, the 330i would be more than sufficient. You can decide on the packages to add to your 330, Premium, or Executive at a later stage. However, with a slightly laggy acceleration, the body control of the 3 series is remarkable and manages to bring out a balanced bodyweight distribution.

Competitors like the Mercedes Benz C Class and the Jaguar XE take 6.2 seconds and 6.0 seconds respectively to reach 60 mph. The 3-Series is also bested by all others in the quarter-mile dash.

Ride and Handling

The 2019 BMW 3-series is capable of offering power-packed performance you’d expect from a German machine. The steering is responsive and well-balanced across corners. The Sedan is available with an option to add an adaptive suspension system for a smoother driving experience on bumpy roads.

Braking

The 2019 BMW 3-Series is equipped with front and rear disc brakes along with an anti-lock braking system that brings the car to a halt from 60 mph to a decent 123 ft. While the figures certainly aren't impressive, they are quite fine for a Sedan with this price tag.

Talking about the rivals, the 2019 Audi A4 offers better braking at 105 ft from 60mph, extremely good figures regardless of price or segment. Mercedes disappoints with below-average performance. The BMW 3 Series and the Jaguar XE jointly share the same braking performance and both the cars make a halt from 60-0 mph in less than 123 ft.

The 2019 BMW 3-Series has a fuel-efficient 2-liter 4 cylinder engine. The 330i trim will give you a decent mileage of 26mpg (city), 36mpg (highway), and combined mileage of 28mpg. If you go for all-wheel-drive, you need not worry about the fuel economy.

The BMW 3-Series is less efficient than Jaguar XE, which offers a mileage of 25 mpg in the city, and 34mpg on the highway, averaging at 28mpg combined efficiency. Audi with the best efficiency figures from the most powerful engine here.

The instrument panel and the interiors of the 2019 BMW 3 Series feel a bit outdated. You'll get to see lots of plastics used inside the cabin. However, the 3 Series gets leather upholstered seats with properly contoured support for the rear, making it comfortable for longer drives. The car has a seating capacity of five people without any discomfort. 

The base trim offers 6-way manually adjustable front seats with 2-manual headrests while the top trim offers a highly customizable seating option. The 340i model gets creature comfort features like 14-way power front sports seats, 4-way lumbar support, and 2-way power side bolsters. 

Mercedes C-class gives the 3-series a run for its money in this category. Both models are closely matched, and occupants of both will appreciate the space inside. Jaguar XE and Audi A4 aren't far behind though, and front row seats offer plenty of space.

Cargo Capacity

The 3-Series offers a boot space of 13 cubic ft, which is decent for a compact luxury Sedan. It can easily swallow two large bags, and weekend getaways should be fun. There are also cubby holes everywhere in the cabin, providing additional space to hold little stuff. 

Jaguar XE offers better trunk space, and by a significant margin. The Audi and BMW offer the same trunk space with the Mercedes-Benz C Class falling a bit shorter.

The most noticeable upgrade is the availability of the iDrive 6.0 in all trims of the car. Premium Package adds a lot of upgrades to the inbuilt options.

The infotainment system on the BMW 3-Series is highly responsive and has a simple and easy-to-use interface. The system comes with crisp graphics and functions responsibly and quickly.

The Mercedes-Benz C Class has the longest wheelbase, 1.2 inches longer than the 3-series. In terms of looks, the Jaguar has no equal. Its flowing lines and swooping headlights capture the onlooker's heart faster than the other Sedans..
