Overall Rating
There aren’t any radical design changes when compared to the base 5-Series offerings which make it look like an ordinary BMW. Only on closer inspection can you know that this car packs an amazing 4.4L V8 under the hood making it a track killer.
BMW’s M department stands a league apart when we talk about performance divisions of major brands worldwide. With the 2019 BMW M5, the German is bringing some astounding performance wrapped under luxury for all the peeps that want genuine power combined with an essence of luxury. The smartly designed interiors are comfortable enough to accommodate passengers with comfort. We get a highly customizable interface that can be modulated according to the convenience of the occupants. This year, they have made plenty of features standard and there are a couple of value-added options packages. The new BMW M5 is lighter than before and offers enhanced performance and drive quality.
The M5 Sedan is available in two trim levels: Standard and Competition. They equip both the variants with a 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 engine that pushes 600 HP while they tune the Competition to return 617 hp and 553 pound-feet of torque. This gives it a sporty ride and handling to the BMW M5 with a sports-tuned suspension and a reinforced chassis. The engine comes mated with 8-speed automatic transmission. It faces stiff competition from the likes ofMercedes-AMG E63 S, Cadillac CT6-V, and the Porsche 911 Carrera S.
We would choose the M5 standard trim instead of the Competition trim. The performance delivered by the M5 Sedan is already more than enough to get through challenging roads. The ride comfort and handling is similar to the Competition trim. However, we'd like to spend some extra bucks on the optional packages that come in handy with the available trim levels.

Powering the 2019 BMW M5 Sedan is a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that effectively generates 600hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that allows smooth and hassle-free shifts.
Comparatively, the M5 engine beats most of its rivals in terms of power delivery. Only the Cadillac CTS-V loaded with a 6.2-liter V8 engine delivers 640 hp and 630 lb-ft. Even the Mercedes AMG E63 S sedan delivers 603 hp, leaving the BMW M5 behind.

The 2019 M5 is loyal to its brand name and goes smoothly through the corners and challenging pavements with a great steering feedback. The all-wheel drive mode allows it to slow along the corners and maintain the balance.
In the two-wheel drive mode, the sedan becomes a bit aggressive. The peak torque allows the vehicle to take over the road and make the rise more enjoyable.
The new BMW M5 gets 15.6-inch brake rotors up front and 15.0-inch brake rotors in the rear wheels. The braking distance is 97 feet which is good among the rivals.

The M5 deploys the biggest brakes among the competition. However, it's the lightweight Acura NSX that comes to a halt much quicker than the M5.
The Sedan returns 15 MPG in city and MPG on the highway which is not too bad for a Sedan of this segment.

Here, the M5 owing to its large proportions offers the best cargo space. The AMG E63 S, however, is insignificantly smaller than the M5. Because of its small coupe-like proportions the Acura NSX offers the lowest cargo storage capacity.
The 2019 BMW M5 weighs 4370 pounds, making it one of the lightest Sedan among its German rivals. The CTS V is still lighter at 4141 pounds. It has a wheelbase of 117.4 in with the length, width and height as 195.5 in, 74.9 in and 58.0 in respectively.
The M5's track and total width are wider than the standard 5 Series sedan, while overall height is a touch higher. The roof is made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, obviously a strategy to cut weight, and it also possesses a unique front apron with bigger air intakes. The overall exterior stance glorifies with the big 19-inch wheels.

Exterior Features
Some exterior features include:
BMW doesn’t disappoint on safety and all the top-notch safety features come as standard. BMW’s Active Protection System detects imminent accidents and prepares by automatically pretensioning safety belts, closing windows and moonroof and activating post-crash braking including fatigue and focus alert feature. The NHTSA and IIHS, both haven’t crash-tested the 2019 BMW M5 yet, however, expect nothing short a “good” rating. The Sedan offers various safety features and driver-assistance technology to ensure the safety of the occupants.
BMW’s Active Protection System detects imminent accidents and prepares by automatically pre-tensioning safety belts, closing windows and moonroof, and activating post-crash braking including fatigue and focus alert feature.
The BMW M5 offers a plethora of active-safety features that are the best in its class. These features include, but are not limited to automatic high-beams, standard forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
Safety Features
The BMW M5 looks familiar inside-out. It only features minor changes. The 8-speed automatic transmission took over the six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch in the predecessor model. The all-wheel-drive configuration promises a smooth shifting as well. On the other hand, the Cadillac CTS-V offers an amazing Supercharged V8 engine. It is a value for money car because as far as the pricing is concerned, the cost is apt due to the missing ceramic brakes.
The Lexus GS F turns out to be more handy and efficient as it weighs 350 pounds less than the BMW M5. The GS F offers a standard remote vehicle starting system, allowing to start the car from driver's home. The M5 lacks a remote starting system. For better safety, the Lexus GS F offers front and rear seat shoulder belts that are height-adjustable whereas the M5 lacks height adjustable seat belts.
As far as the warranty is concerned, the Lexus GS F offers 2 years and 20,000 miles longer warranty coverage than the M5. The GS F is fully covered for 6 years while the M5 coverage ends at 4 years or 50,000 miles.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S is said to be one of the closest rivals of the BME M5. Both come assembled with turbocharged V8, all-wheel-drive system. Benz's interior looks classier than the M5. It is quite difficult to pick one among the two as they stand equally toward their promise. So, it depends on your budget and luxury demand.
The 2019 BMW M5 is still fun to drive with its ultimate dynamics and road ethics. With the introduction of all-wheel drive, the M5 brings you more comfort to hands. The M5 never gets out of class. Since its inception, the carmaker has tried to make it more user-friendly and luxury vehicle. There might be a lot of close rivals in the segment but the BMW M5 has its own magical charm.
