The 2019 Buick Encore is offered in two engine options. Both these Buick Encore engines are different versions of the same turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder. The base engine has a slightly smaller bore and outputs less displacement figures(1364 cc vs 1399 cc), and this base engine produces 138 hp@4900 rpm and 148 lb-ft of torque @1850 rpm. The bigger engine boasts of a higher compression ratio (9.5:1 versus 10.0:1) and has fuel injection rather than port, which helps it generate 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. Both the Buick Encore engines lack the feel, although the grunt is apt for city driving. The Encore feels sluggish when all the seats are occupied and is made to run down the highways.
Both the engine options are made available with a 6-speed automatic transmission that can also be made available with the manual shifting function. Further, this subcompact SUV is offered in either a front-wheel-drive drivetrain or an optional all-wheel-drive drivetrain. This goes without saying that, the more powerful engine of the two is made available on the Sports Touring and the Essence trim.

There is no significant difference in the power outputs of all the rivals, however, the 2019 Mazda CX-3 churns out the most amount of ponies. The Chevrolet Trax is identical to the Buick Encore while the Mazda produces the highest amount of horsepower among them.
Acceleration
The acceleration on the 2019 Buick Encore is the best among the four cars with the more powerful 1.4 L turbocharged engine. The car does does 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds with the more powerful engine option. The lower displacement motor takes 8.4 seconds to reach the 0-60 mph mark from a standstill. This number might seem slow, but comparing with the competition, it is the quickest among them all.
The AWD option adds more weight to the car which in turn affects the performance and it clearly shows in its acceleration. However, the performance figures listed are not of the AWD variants. Expect the AWD options to be slighty slower.

When put in comparison against its rivals, the lower capacity version engine of the 2019 Buick Encore proves to be the fastest of the lot. It proves its mettle not only in the 0-60 mph competition but also in the Quarter mile dash. This is impressive when we look at the engine capacities of the rivals. Equipped with the lowest capacity engine of 1.4 L when compared to its rivals, that are equipped with the 1.8 and 2.0 liter engine, the Buick is still unbeatable and the quickest car among the lot. This proves the ability that the 2019 Buick Encore has.
Ride and Handling
The 2019 Buick Encore, being a crossover tecnically adds to its ability to tackle traffic and fitting into tight spots a good control over the car. Its small size makes it agile and maneuverable, and it delivers perfect power for city driving. This vehicle is peppy for sure but it isn't as sporty as you might expect it to be. There is not much roll, and the car manages to stay put in turns as well. The steering is light, and precise.
The 2019 Buick Encore's ride is smooth at a lower speeds, but it can get wallowed over the uneven landscape on higher velocities. Buick has incorporated some energetic styling prompts like a thick-rimmed steering wheel, yet the Encore is considerably more suited as an urban cruiser than a lively crossover. Probably better to keep this car limited ti city drives.
Braking
The braking system of any vehicle is a very important factor, especially when it is highly recommmened for city usage. The brake bite is enough for red light stops and city jaunts, pedal travel is small, requires less effort with a high response. You will certainly hear a weird squeal from the pads after using them repetitively. No option of an automatic emergency braking system limits the 2019 Buick Encore's appeal.Beware of the nosedive though.

The rotor sizes talk a differnt story, but they are not enough to judge a car's braking performance based on the disc size. The curb weight also plays an important factor. Comparing the rotor sizes of these vehicles in consideration tells us that the Buick as well as the Trax have the biggest front brake amoung the lot. The Encore is the heaviest among the four cars, and this eats into its braking performance.
