Overall Rating
In a growing world of SUVs and crossovers, the Fiat 500X seems to be Fiat’s ambassador which is somewhat confused around what it is supposed to do. It does have a striking exterior design and a spacious yet good looking interior to check the grounded boxes.
While mostly the same as its outgoing model year, the 2019 Fiat 500X gets a new engine under its hood. Fiat has also revised the trim-levels have been updated for 2019 and the AWD is now standard across the lineup. However, these updates do come at a premium which is almost $4500 over its 2018 base model.
We recommend picking up the base “Pop” model for its somewhat appreciable value. The 500X is no premium sub-compact hatch and the base model nicely covers your infotainment needs. Also, the higher trims do see to be a bit overpriced for what they actually offer.

The updated 2019 Fiat 500X is available in three different trim options. The range kicks off with the base “Pop” priced at $24,490 and reaches up to $29,195 for the top-tier “Trekking Plus”. All the models get the same powertrain and also come standard with AWD now. While the Base “Pop” trim comes with most of the basic stuff in check, the higher trims gradually add some extra niceties.

We recommend picking up the base “Pop” model for its somewhat appreciable value. The 500X is no premium sub-compact hatch and the base model nicely covers your infotainment needs. Also, the higher trims do see to be a bit overpriced for what they actually offer.
On the power front, the 2019 Fiat 500X gets a new 1.3-liter turbo inline-4 borrowed from the Jeep Renegade. Mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission, the engine churns out 177 hp and 210 lb-fts of torque. The engine feels more than powerful for the 500X and has a good low-end torque output.
Despite all its capabilities, the engine in the 500X does feel devoid of its full potentials. Courtesy of the un-inspiring yet kaggy transmission. 9-speed auto keeps hunting for the right gear all the time and sudden takeovers need dropping down gears for an enhanced low-end grunt. If Fiat updates the transmission sometimes soon, the 500X could be very impressive.

Among the lot here, the Fiat 500X is the most powerful among the lot for sure. Not only in terms of horsepower but the Fiat’s 1.3-liter turbo is miles ahead than rivals in terms of torque output as well. Sadly though, despite a mediocre 2.0-liter inline-4, the Hyundai Kona seems more responsive and inviting toi drive.
While you dont really hit the track with a subcompact SUV, it's always a good thing to have one with some good sprinting skills. In that regard, the 500X is a fairly capable thing but with limitations.
Courtesy of its learning transmission. Talking numbers, th 2019 Fiat 500X races from 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds which is just okay.

Among the rivals here, while the HR-V is as quick as the Fiat here with an 8.6-second run from 0-60, the Hyundai is a strong performer. With its compact and lightweight body, the 2019 Hyundai Kona cruises from 0-60 mph in an impressive 7.2 seconds.
Along the highway, the 2019 Fiat 500X is a mixed bag of multiple ups and downs. The large wheels negotiate well with bumps in traffic but translate every little undulation inside the cabin on the highway. On most driving occasions, the Fiat 500X is not the most planted thing either.
Although the steering does allow some feedback and directness, it is all overtaken by the wobbly body movement around curvy sections. The available AWD doesn/t seem to ring much aid either. Even switching through drive modess like the “Sport” further erupts things with added firmness in a thing which is already too bouncy.
For braking needs, the 2019 Fiat 500X comes guarded by 4-wheel disc and ABS at all four corners. Stopping from 60-0 mph comes in 127 feet and in extreme conditions, the brakes do respond hard and firm. However, when brakes are applied harder, the 500X does seem to nosedive a bit.

Among the competition here, the other two rivalsheer appear to be pon a similar turf as the Fiat in terms of braking efficiency. Surprisingly though, the lightest and most compact Hyundai kona here takes two extra feet in order to stop from 60-0 mph. The Honda HR-V though surely impresses with its 121 feet braking distance.
A humble fuel economy is what a regular buyer would essentially look for in a sub-compact SUV. However, if you are among them and have your eyes stuck on the 2019 Fiat 500X, you are surely up for some disappointment. Unlike how it looks from the outside, the 500X returns a mediocre 26 mpg combined economy.

Among its segment rivals here, both the Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona offer better economy than the Fiat. Both these two Japs return a healthy 30 combined mpg which should be enough for your daily needs. Well, that's how effective weight distribution dynamics and efficiency-tuned transmission affects your economy.
On the inside, the 2019 Fiat 500X does live up to your expectations. The doors open wide enough amaking getting in and out fairly easy while the canin feels very spacious and airy. Thanks to its tall-boy stance. The dashboard has a nice youthful feel into it and the multi-color available insert on the dash adds to the funkiness. Most of the things are laid out within comfortable reach of the driver and the build quality seems to be in line with class standards as well.
Owing to its price, you do get plasticky inserts all-around the cabin and the lower models come with soft cloth upholstery However, on the top “Trekking Plus” trim, you do get leather upholstery which feels premium nonetheless. The seats are not the most comfortable out there but they do get thick padding and good under-thigh support. Based on your wallet and trim of choice, you can also get powered front seats. Even the rear bench is wide with a good height into it and can comfortably squeeze in three adults in there.

While the Fiat’s high roof and thoughtfulness may seem spacious to the bare eye, on the spec-sheet against its segment rivals, things are quite contrary. Both the Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona Offer better headroom than the Fiat at both the front and second rows. Even the seats on the Honda HR-V offer better support and comfort than the Fiat here.
On the infotainment front, the 2019 Fiat 500X gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen display which sits right on top of the dash. The system comes loaded with Apple carPlay and Android Auto alongside Bluetooth, USB and a 6-speaker audio system.
The infotainment screen is not very crisp or bright but it has a clean menu layout and decent graphics. Thankfully, the system offers good feedback and skimming across apps in it is an easy task.
If you think that in its aggravated body style as a crossover, the 500X is a more practical 500, you might have to change your mind. This is because of the fact that despite its extra crossover fitment and relatively larger size than the iconic Fiat 500, the 500X offers a mediocre 12,2 cu-fts of cargo space. However, in case you need extra storage, the rear seats do fold down to open up a generous loading area.

When compared against its rivals, the 2019 Fiat 500X disappoints again. Not because of the fact that its rivals offer better cargo space but because its rivals like the Honda HR-V offer almost twice as much the cargo space of the Fiat 500X.
Perhaps it's on the outside where the Fiat 500X draws the most attention. Thanks to its beautiful amalgamation of rounded-edges picked up from the 500 hatches and somewhat expanded into a larger crossover-ishs sheet. The front metal skid-plate combines really well with the oval LED headlamps to give it a balanced tint of style, youthfulness and aggression at the same time.
Move to the sides and that's when you notice the large silhouette which is outlined by a curvy window line again. The chrome-finish on the shoulder and window line add some good dose of premiumness to it as well. Even the large wheel-arches which can house up to 18’ inch alloy-wheels acts as significant muscular complements to its poitfit. At the rear things are clean and simple with square tail lamps, metallic rear skid plate and some chrome accents.

When pitched against its rivals, the Fiat 500X is definitely the better looking of them all. While the likes of Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona follow the popular design notion of modern crossovers, the 500X has a charm of its own. It looks premium, handsome and stylish in a way that no other car on the road can catch-up with its overall aura.
Exterior Features
On the safety front, the 2019 Fiat 500X comes along a decent suite of available safety and driver-assistance features. Some of its highlighted safety features include rear view camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitor, automatic high beam headlights and lane-departure warning, The only grouse here is the fact that most of these advanced safety features are concentrated either in top trim pr are available as optional packages. Some of its highlighted safety features are mentioned below for reference:
When cxonmpatred against the Honda HR-V, the Honda has a clear edge over the Fiat here. While the 500X is more stylish, the HR-V is more comfortable, offers better efficiency and ride quality, is more engaging to drive and has better cargo space as well.
While on the interior part, the 500X may be a bit more welcoming, but it's the HR-V that's more rich in tech and safety features.
Even the Hyundai Kona smashes the Fiat 500X in terms of overall value and proposition. The Hyundai Kona has a stylish design too, it has a more updated and modern interior with better features than the 500X.
The Kona is also quicker, more energetic, comfortable and fun to drive than the 500X. Not only that apart from offering better passenger room, the Kona is also better in terms of cargo space.
In terms of pure aesthetics, if you want a modern crossover which stands out from the crowd, the 2019 Fiat 500X is surely like no other thing out on the road. However, if you want something that drives and performs rEally well and offers good value for your hard earned money, the Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona are far more skilled than the Fiat 500X.
