Overall Rating
For the 2019 Genesis G90, Genesis offers a little but accurate menu of two options ranging from $69,350 to $76,350. The 3.3 premium trim is powered by 3.3 liter V6 engine while the Ultimate trim levels up the game with a wider range of luxurious features and a monstrous 5-liter V8 engine to fulfil all the fantasies of enthusiasts.
The flagship of Genesis, the G90 comes with a choice between an extremely smooth yet robust V6 and a roaring yet still tamed V8. Drivetrains aside, this magnificent machine has the innards to give its german competition a run for their money. With a price tag much lower than the competition, starting at $69K, as opposed to a starting price of $80K+ on the competition, the G90 has some serious advantages. From being rewarded the Top Safety Pick + by the IIHS for the year 2019, to a suite of luxury features cocooned in impressive styling and bold yet elegant interiors make you feel right at home, the G90 gives people quite the incentive to opt for it.
In our opinion, the best choice here is to opt for the Ultimate. The incentive of a much bigger and powerful engine is enough to justify the price. That, along with extra features like the 2nd row LCD monitors or rear seat lumbar support makes it even more worth it.

The G90 is offered in two trims, the Premium and the Ultimate, which both come in either a RWD or a AWD option. While the Premium is offered in a 3.3L turbo V6, the Ultimate comes with a 5L V8 under the hood. Both trims are very well equipped for the price.

Which trim do we recommend?
In our opinion, the best choice here is to opt for the Ultimate. The incentive of a much bigger and powerful engine is enough to justify the price. That, along with extra features like the 2nd row LCD monitors or rear seat lumbar support makes it even more worth it.
Depending on the trim you opt for, you either get a 3.3L turbo V6 or a whopping 5L V8. While the V8 engine will attract most people in terms of horsepower, the V6 here is not to be written off. The turbo V6 makes 365 horsepower and 376 lb ft of torque. While this is enough for most people, those who want an even bigger roar can opt for the V8, which produces 420 horsepower and manages 383 lb ft of torque. Do note that the V5 is not turbocharged. Although this will not sway your purchase decision, it is something to be mentioned.
No matter the engine choice, both engines are smooth and vibrations are to a minimum. Both engines are coupled with an 8 speed automatic transmission but they are not the same. While the V6 engine gets Hyundai’s A8R40 transmission, the V8 engine gets the A8R50. Gear ratios of both the transmissions are almost identical, but both are rated for different torque values. Technical differences aside, the performance of both the transmissions are exemplary.

In direct comparison, the G90 does produce the most power for the class. Same for torque. However, this comparison is for the smallest engine on offer from each vehicle. The german competition has engine options which are more powerful, if not equal. However, that increase in power comes at a considerable price tag.
When buying a vehicle for the luxury it can provide, one's priority isn't how fast a car can sprint off the line, however, it is a critical metric when it comes to direct comparison. The G90 goes from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 146 mph.

Horsepower isn't the deciding factor in which vehicle will be the quickest. The G90 might have the mightiest engine, but is slower than some of its competitors, namely the BMW 740i and the Mercedes E-Class. The Audi A8 is just as fast as the G90, but has a higher top speed.
The real test of a car which banks on elegance and luxury is how it performs on the road. The G90 is a godsent here. It remains graceful in corners and unshakable in straights. Rough pavements fail to make this vehicle sweat. Furthermore, the well insulated cabin stays quiet no matter how much the engine grunts or the wind thrashes. Although, its stable manner soon changes when you push this vehicle into a corner at more than comfortable speeds, as then its body weight makes its presence known and induces significant body roll. Here, the G90’s well calibrated steering wheel saves the day as it gives you confidence that the vehicle shall remain planted and in your control.
For a vehicle which weighs upwards of 4600 pounds, there is no question that braking becomes a crucial concern. Genesis has done the vehicle wonders by providing an apt braking system which compensates well for the weight of the car.
With ventilated brake pads in all wheels, this braking system is capable of being tested continuously even on longer drives. A soft pedal feel coupled with smooth braking performance even on the most intense of efforts are signs of a well tuned braking system. However, there is significant nose dive in spirited braking when the suspension is set to a softer setting.

The braking performance of the G90 is not impressive for the class it operates in but more in touch with the class directly below it, which here is represented by the Mercedes Benz E450. Both the BMW 740i and the Audi A8 have a 60mph-0 panic braking distance of 112 feet, while the G90 crawls along to 122 feet. However, seeing the significant weight difference between the vehicles, we would say these numbers are respectable, if not competitive.
When you have a choice between a turbocharged V6 or a massive V8, fuel economy concerns seem futile. However, when you’re considering buying into such a class of vehicle, we suppose fuel economy wouldn’t really sway your buying decision that much. The fuel economy of the G90 is nothing to write home about. Managing 17 mpg in the city which only increases to 24 mpg on the highway impresses no one. In contrast, the competition manages much better numbers.

All three competitors here manage better fuel economy numbers than the G90. King of this class is the BMW 740i, followed closely by the E450 by Mercedes Benz. Third is the A8.
This is the main attraction of the G90. Impressive, high quality materials, spacious cabin and a pleasant atmosphere surprises you. Starting from the first row, the 22 way adjustable driver seat helps in making even the longest trips an ease. So does the electronically adjustable steering wheel. The seats are incredibly comfortable and the 1st row comes standard with both heating and ventilation. The driver has a good field of view. With giant windows, well placed rear view mirrors and an array of cameras, the driver rarely stays in the blind spot.
The rear seats are incredibly luxurious as well, offering the same level of comfort and equipped with both heating and ventilating elements. There is ample leg and head room, accommodating passengers which are taller than average.
The aura of the cabin is wanting. Just being a passenger in it is enough to stop you from ever wanting to step out again, let alone drive it.

The G90 has higher than average headroom, at least for the front row. The rear row is somewhat comparable for all the cars in this class.
The infotainment system isn't very innovative like some of its competitors might provide, but gets the job done and checks all the boxes as far as features are concerned. All except Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 17 speaker Lexicon audio system will surely quench the thirst of any audiophile worth their salt though. The 12.3 inch display in the front is vibrant and bright. With split screen application, it allows you to manage two tasks simultaneously, such as navigate and control music.
Add the dual 10.3 screens affixed behind each front seat to the mix, and the G90 has a remarkable entertainment system which keeps you engaged with incredible excitement. The screens are responsive and clearly of good quality, but what holds them back is the software. Precisely, the smartphone connectivity. Without Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, one has to depend on bluetooth and USB connections, which would be fine, if it was 2016. For the intended image of this vehicle, no having such a vital feature is no excuse. Navigating media folders with the existing connectivity options proves to be tedious at times. Android Auto and Apple Carplay are said to be integrated next year.
Cargo storage in the G90 is respectable. The 15.7 cubic feet may not be the best in the class, but is far from being the worst. The trunk is low and wide making loading easy, and it reserves most of its storage space towards the rear of the trunk. There is also a ski pass-through. Folding rear seats are not available.
After the trunk, we need to talk about small item storage around the cabin, which wouldn’t take long. Apart from the glove compartment, which has average space at best, the G90 also has a flip-lin bin and an armrest storage compartment.
The flip lid bin has USB ports and a wireless charger, but has difficulty closing with a phone inside. Also, the generous way to describe the armrest storage here would be modest at best. Apart from the, the door pockets are slim but lined with felt which reduces noise in the least. Overhead Console storage and Front Seatback storage is to a standard as one would expect.

Interior Features
Here are some of the interior features of the G90:
The Genesis G90 has bold looks. Striking at every angle. It is elegant enough to hide in a crowd, but once you get your eyes on it, it's hard to look away. Its flashy wheels and gorgeous rear fascia was enough for us to skip a beat. While some do say one of the reasons the G90 catches your eye is due to the fact it borrows design elements from its closest rivals, but the way Genesis has put it all together makes for one striking image.
Despite that, the G90 has started to see its age. If rumours are to be believed, a complete overhaul of the design is coming soon.

Exterior Features
Here are some of the exterior features of the G90:
Safety is one of biggest concerns of the modern era. As consumers become more aware and educated about prevailing safety standards, automakers have strived to incorporate as many safety features as possible in their given budget.
One way to sum up the safety assurance of the 2019 Genesis G90 is IIHS’s verdict on it. IIHS tests are twofold. How well a vehicle can protect its occupants in the event of an accident, and how does the technology and safety features in place help to either prevent an accident or lessen its impact. The G90 is IIHS’s top Safety Pick + for 2019, making it one of the safest vehicles on the road.
Safety Features
Some of the safety features of the G90 is as follows:
Compared to Genesis, the BMW brand is well known and well preferred. However, seeing everything the G90 is capable of, it is well within the right of the 740i to feel threatened.
The performance and the sheer amount of features the G90 offers for its price tag gives its incredible value for money. The 740i on the other hand is more refined and polished with the details. You get what you pay for.
The A8 is another german name here, and represents the same balance which the 740i brought to the table. The sheer difference in price is visible here as well, while the user experience might not be.
Again, the A8 might have all the bells and whistles one expects at the price tag, but you won't find the G90 disappointing you. All in all, it comes down to the fact whether you want to drive a car which you will fall in love with or a car others will fall in love with.
The E450 represents a smaller class in which the G90 operates in. The purpose of putting this vehicle in the comparison pool is to show a prominent class which offers the same level of performance but not the same level of luxury.
This also comes at a smaller price tag. The only fair comparison between the G90 and the E450 is the performance though. The G90 out classes the E450 here.
The G90 is an exquisite example of a palace on wheels. Its presence, performance and panache are some of the prevailing parameters which plunge it towards near perfection. The Germans here might be more preferred by customers for their brand value, but the G90 is the one to watch out for. There are some glaring issues which need to be addressed, but overall, for your money, the G90 is your best bet. You cannot go wrong with this one. Moreover, we know the G90 is to be refreshed soon, probably next year. A wise decision could be to wait for the 2020 model.
