Jaguar and Land Rover have a very unique trim-structure and the 2019 E-Pace proudly follows its family customs. Essentially, the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace is available in two trim levels; the base “P250” and the higher “P 300 R-Dynamic. Both the trims carry a base MSRP of $38,600 and $46,400. The main demarcation across these trim levels though is the powerful engine and performance upgrades which the P300 R-Dynamic brings in over the P250. 

Interestingly, apart from the two main trims, there are also three sub trims in which both the P250 and P300 R-Dynamic could be had. However, the HSE is available only with the P300 R-Dynamic. The subtrims in ascendance are the S, the SE and the top-gun HSE. No surprise and climbing up the subtrims only unlocks more luxury features and amenities.

We recommend picking up the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace 250 with the “S” subtrim. The 2.0-liter turbo pot in the 250 has a good blend of power of efficiency and the 250 “S” covers your everyday necessities of features and comforts pretty well.

On the powertrain front, the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace comes with a sole 2.0-liter turbo motor mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. In the 250, the motor makes 248 hp while in the P300 R-Dynamic, the pot delivers 296 hp. No matter what trim and tune of the engine you are driving, the E-Pace will always bring a smile on to your face.

The engine feels very refined and smooth with a linear power-delivery as well. While at the lower rpm-range, the motor does take some time to get into its full momentum, but it does reward you with an overwhelming mid-range torque. Even the 8-speed auto is smooth, precise and very responsive in its operations. 

Among the rivals here, the E-Pace has a distinct edge over its other rivals here. Thanks to its impressive 2.0-liter pot. While the Mercedes-GLA and Volvo XC40 are more tuned for efficiency, the Jaguar blends in a good dose of refinement, efficiency and performance. 

Acceleration

With a storing mid-range from its turbo motor, the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace gains quick momentum. Although you may not quite feel it behind the wheel but the E-Pace races from 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds. Thanks to its sharp and crisp transmission though.

With a punchy engine, it's no surprise that the E-Pace is the quickest among the lot here. Although the Volvo XC40 and Mercedes-GLA are not too far behind, they couldn’t coach up with the Jags leaping momentum here. The Volvo though does impress with its 6.9 second run from 0-60, despite carrying the least powerful engine here. 

Ride and Handling

On the ride front, the Jaguar E-Pace surprises with its dynamic character. The suspension is very nicely calibrated and soaks up bumps with ease. On the move, the E-Pace remains composed and planted with a good interior comfort and stability.

The steering is precise and very responsive and offers you with good feedback. The nose remains sharp and light allowing you great control on all occasions. Even at high speeds, the cabin vibrations are minimal and at fast corners, the E-Pace shows no signs of body movements at all. 

Braking

On the braking front, the 2019 E-Pace is blessed with disca and ABS at all four corners. 60-0 comes up in 130 feet and in severe breaking conditions, the brake shows no signs of fade at all. 

Among its segment, all of the competitors seem to be blessed with a similar braking apparatus. Dta for the GLA is not available but the Volvo XC40 tackles a shorter distance to stop from 60-0 mph. 

Despite its healthy performance, the balanced tuning of the E-Pace’ powertrain rewards you with a healthy economy. On a combined driving scenario, the E-Pace returns a very healthy 24 mpg along with its overall package. 

Among the segment rivals here, while the Mercedes-Benz and Volvo are not very promising in performance, they certainly are in terms of economy. Both the duo return a 27 combined mpg which is marginally better than the Jaguar here. 

On the inside, the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace welcomes you with a plush and comfortable ambience. The cabin layout is similar to the F-Type and is sprinkled with soft-touch materials. Everything is nicely laid out within easy reach and the simplistic design adds to the interior opulence.

On the seating front, the E-Pace gets very comfortable seats, especially at the front. The front seats are wide and very supportive with good bolstering and lumbar support. Thankfully, you do get power seats as standards and you can also get ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. 

Apart from its comfortable and luxurious interior presentation, the E-Pace also offers ample passenger room on the inside. However, in terms of overall cabin space, the Volvo XC40 offers extra headroom and legroom both at the front and at the rear.

Infotainment

For infotainment needs, the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace comes along with a 1.0-inch touchscreen infotainment which is sharp and crisp and has a clean interface. The screen is responsive and bright and also allows easy switching between apps.

On the connectivity front, the E-Pace gets bluetooth, satellite radio, dual USB ports and an available WiFi Hotspot. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available but are a part of the optional smartphone package which is a slight disappointment. 

Cargo

If you just can't get over the overall value of the E-Pace, the nimble Jag treats you with a generous cargo space as well. Thanks to its massive 24.2 cu-fts of cargo area, the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace has enough space to pack all your weekend bags. Furthermore, the rear seats also fold down to offer an even better cargo area

Among the rivals, the E-Pace is the one with the largest practicality and cargo space. The Volvo XC40 impresses with its 20.7 cu-fts too, but it's just not as good as the jaguar. 

On the outside, the Jaguar E-Pace is an absolute stunner. We love the way it draws inspirations from its bigger sibling, the F-Pace and presents those classic Jaguar traits in a compact and well-rounded package. Its overall form factor is kind of a beautiful amalgamation of the features of the F-Pace as well as the F-Type. 

At the front, the upright bonnet alongwith large Jaguar grille do make a bold statement while the slim LED headlights with LED DRLs add a punch of fresh styling. At the rear, the E-Pace really impresses with its somewhat oval-ish shape highlighted by a curved roofline. The chrome window-line only elevates its level of premium presentation. At the rear, the flared hip integrates really well with the slim tail lamps which seem borrowed from the F-Pace again. 

Among the rivals here, all the three rivals here have a very distinct exterior design. While the Volvo is tall and bold and the Mercedes being overly trendy with its typical crossover appeal, the Jaguar elevates things up with its unique blend of style and youthfulness.

However, the E-Pace is powerful, quicker and more fun to dive, Compared to the Volvo, the E-Pace also has a youthful cabin along with better cargo space.

Jaguar E-Pace Vs Mercedes-Benz GLA

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is a very close competitor to the Jaguar E-Pace for sure. It looks aggressive, has a good blend of athleticism and comfort and is more efficient as well. However, the E-Pace is not only more engaging and powerful it's also quicker and more practical than the Merc.

In the luxury compact-SUV segment, the 2019 Jaguar E-Pace is a very strong and one of the most well-rounded contenders. At its price, the E-Pace does offer an overwhelming overall character. It's powerful and fun around corners with a good blend of efficiency and is also blessed with aptle features on board. Even in terms of interior, its very comfortable and has one of the best fit and finish in its class. Lastly, being an SUV, the E-Pace also serves buyers with the best in class cargo space.
