All the trims of the Maserati Ghibli come with the option of a Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) drivetrain except the Trofeo trim. The Maserati still misses out on a lot of features like emergency forward collision avoidance braking, blind-spot monitoring system and even the resolution of the infotainment system is worse than a budget car, which is expected as standard features from a vehicle of this price point, and that is definitely a major setback for the prospective buyer’s.
Which trim should you buy?
The 2019 Maserati Ghibli sedan seems to have everything sorted in terms of power on the spec sheet, but take it out on the road, and it’s a very different story altogether. The V6 feels short of breath and a little sluggish on the acceleration part, though Maserati will be offering a more powerful S variant with 424 bhp it still seems like it could have been a little bit faster.
But having said that, whatever the Maserati lacks out on performance makes it up with the exhaust note, it’s definitely the best sounding engine in its segment without a hint of doubt and is a great excuse to get a little heavy on your right foot with the throttle. The latest iteration is expected to get some major tunes and engine remapping updates over the previous generations.

The Quattroporte faces competition with the mentioned cars and it turns out to be a very fair comparison as all the cars have the 3L engine with a 6-cylinder setup and 8-speed automatic gear setup.
Pretty clearly, the Maserati poses out as the winner with a drastic lead in the engine's output, tuning, and performance. Rest, all being luxurious sedans come out equally similar based on their engine qualifications.
The twin-turbo V6 engine available in two states of tune will howl and sing and keep you entertained, all while the Ghibli races from 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds in all-wheel-drive S Q4 form, while the less-powerful base Ghibli will run the same sprint in 5.5 seconds.
Opt for the rear-wheel-drive S model and you're in for a sprint time of 4.9 seconds, but the small two-tenth sacrifice is well worth it for the ability to pilot through corners using the throttle to adjust your line.

Despite the increased girth of the car, the Maserati Ghibli has managed to pull out an extremely balanced car. It involves a lot of aluminum in its structure and chassis which allows it to shed unnecessary weight which further adds to a more responsive and well-handled car. As one would expect from a sports luxury sedan, the suspension is on the firm side which allows it to cruise through any circumstance without causing any nuisance. The electro-hydraulic steering allows the sheer joy of handling the Quattroporte at ease. The bigger wheels, however, decrease the comfort somewhat.
The 13.6-inch and 13.0-inch brake pads on the front and the rear wheels respectively help the car to come at a halt from the usual cruising speeds. The Maserati is one heavily built car, weighing just about 4100 lbs.
When tested to the extreme, the brakes brought the Ghibli from 60 mph to a dead stop at just 125 ft. Which is quite impressive according to the segment standards.

When analyzed, the car weighs right in the middle of the category but even though it has the smallest of the brake setups, it still carries off the least distance and the quickest to stop from 60 miles an hour. The Jaguar XJ loses this aspect of the clan.
The 2019 Maserati Ghibli fails to make a strong impression in MPG figures; as it returns anywhere around 17 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg combined. It definitely lags behind the Mercedes, and the Audi in gas mileage comparison. Though it’s not the primary priority for a luxury sedan buyer, the Ghibli even falls a little short even from that point of view.

The interior of the Maserati Ghibli promises a lot in terms of its adventurous styling attempts but falls short by a very long margin. The quality of the material used for the dashboard and other places of the interior is quite cheap and looks like that from a much cheaper car.Â
A part of that reason is the fact that Maserati which is owned by Fiat Chrysler is also the same brand that owns the car company Dodge and most of the interior switches and panels are directly borrowed from a Dodge vehicle. The design ergonomics also fail to invoke a sense of royalty and that is definitely unacceptable from a car of this segment.

Due to lack of data, we cannot put the Maserati Quattroporte against its competitors but the car ranks almost equally with the BMW 7-series which is class-leading in terms of space and comfort.
The 8.5-inch touchscreen featured on the 2019 Maserati Ghibli’s dash is also from the FCA family of vehicles, but that's definitely not a bad thing. It's reactive and smooth, and the large surface area also helps make common commands easy to tap on the road.
It's well-equipped as well, boasting Android Auto/Apple CarPlay functionality as well as Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio integration, and navigation with SiriusXM Travel Link. The 2019 Maserati Ghibli also comes with an optional 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system for an all round immersive music experience.
Being one of the longest and widest in its class, the 2019 Maserati Ghibli offers great cargo practicality is something that is expected from a mid-size sedan. It should be able to carry a family’s luggage for an outstation trip. With the increase in the demand for SUVs and crossovers, the sedans have taken a backseat in terms of practicality.

Comparing the same, we conclude that the Ghibli has the class-leading specs in this aspect with BMW following the same and Audi A8 falling at the last spot. A feast for the eyes, the 2019 Maserati Quattroporte is a big and stylish Ferrari-powered sedan that competes with some of the top luxury flagship sedans on the market today.
Having a length of 195.7 inches, a width of 76.6 inches, and a height just above 58-inch, the 2019 Maserati Ghibli is surely a huge sedan. Along with a wheelbase of 118-inch, promises plenty of space inside the cabin of the car. The car's built pretty symmetrically when the front to the rear ratio of track width is almost identical.
The 2019 Maserati Ghibli sedan comes with a whole host of active and passive safety features onboard
The BMW 550i xDrive is known for its plush and technology stuffed outlook at heart. It offers numerous amounts of exquisite luxury, exceptionally crafted details, and the best driving dynamics and handling characteristics in its class. Also known to be a chauffeur-driven car, it provides tons of comfort at the back seats as well.
However, the car lacks some confidence in handling as the steering is found to be soft and numb, even though the engine is a result of pure refined engineering. Another major drawback of this car is the steep depreciation curve, which leaves a lot of potential buyers second guessing their thoughts.
The Mercedes AMG E53 being from the same stable as the ultra luxurious and well known Mercedes Benz E-Class exudes a lot of class and elegance, be it with the instantly attention grabbing exterior design language or the finely crafted cabin with great intricate aesthetic appeal. Having said that the E53 AMG is also one of the very few cars in this segment to come with a mild electric hybrid powertrain.
Priced above all this automotive marvel blessed with the Italian grace also performs above all. Justifying its price point in every parameter the decade-old design is still hard to beat and still manages to appeal to the adrenal glands of the connoisseurs. The car is an ageless design and still manages to hold its own in an always advancing world.
The Maserati Ghibli has never been the most well rounded sports sedan experience as far as the history of the brand goes, though the Maserati exudes class and fenace with its overall design aesthetics and appeal it does come with its fair share of faults and demerits, be it with the ungainly interior body panels, lack of grunt from the otherwise great sounding engine or the sheer lack of emphasize on the latest technological aids and features. The Maserati Ghibli is a clear contender as a more emotionally driven and nuanced choice.
