Overall Rating
The 2019 Porsche 718 Boxster is an entry-level Porsche in its sports car lineup, which also goes by the name “baby 911” in the car community. The 718 Boxster is powered by a a four-cylinder turbocharged engine which is mounted in the middle of the car to ensure the perfect weight distribution and an invincible handling prowess.
The Porsche badge is synonymous with performance and handling and the 718 Boxster is no different except it allows you to experience the skies while flying low as it lets you deploy or remove the top in a matter of seconds, making it an ideal, convertible sports car. The Porsche 718 Boxster underwent a complete redesign in 2017, the 2019 718 Boxster is more or less on the same lineup as it had everything better than before after the redesign, especially in the GTS trim. The Porshce 718 Boxster is offered in two trims and the GTS is the higher-powered version of the base trim. The 718 Boxster with its flat-4 enigne manages to put out 300 horsepower, is a hoot to drive, and gets you from 0 to 60 mph in a shade under five seconds, while the GTS trim will do the same trick in a shade less than four seconds. No doubt it can give some serious run for its money to the 911.
As we are reviewing the base trim in this section we don't have much to recommend here. Thus we suggest utilizing the money toward upgrades rather or for that matter the brilliant PDK transmission that yields better performance and less driver fatigue.

The 2019 Porsche 718 Boxster is available in three trims: base, S, and GTS. The GTS trim has been covered by us seperately and for this review we will be focusing on the base and the S trim. For the curious minds except for the power produced from their engine there is hardly any diffeence among the three trims and ofcourse with the GTS being the most powerful among all.
The base trim 718 Boxster comes standard with a 300 hp, 2.0L turbo-four and 18” wheels. Besides this, other standard features include black brake calipers, a single central tailpipe, etc. The S trim is powered by a 350hp, 2.5L tubro-four and has few exterior trims added to differentiated from the base model like two centrally mounted exhaust tips, 19" wheels, and red brake calipers.

Trim to Choose
As we are reviewing the base trim in this section we don't have much to recommend here. Thus we suggest utilizing the money toward upgrades rather or for that matter the brilliant PDK transmission that yields better performance and less driver fatigue.
The 718 Boxster is available with two engine choices. You can either go for the base a 300 horsepower producing turbocharged 2.0L flat-four-cylinder engine or the more powerful and bigger 350 horsepower producing turbocharged 2.5L flat-four. Irrespective of the eninge you chose it come standard with a slick-shifting six-speed manual gearbox and a lightning-quick seven-speed dual-clutch automatic while the latter one is part of the optional features list. That said, the base and S models with their individual enigne can go from 0-60 mph in 4.4 and 4.3 seconds, respectively.

The 718 gets the highest power and torque figure across the competition as well as the manual transmission which takes the driving experience to the penultimate level. So from the purists POV this car ticks all the right boxes.
The 718 Boxster is a lightweight sports car and that makes people pass it off as a beginner Porsche but we daresay to them to look how fast the 718 Boxster is compared to its rivals. In base form the Boxster is capable of doing 0-60 mph in only 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 170 mph. The Boxster S trim does the same 0-60 mph time in 4.4 seconds while the top speed rises to 177 mph. The Sport response system, available on the 2019 718 Cayman can be activated to deliver short bursts of boosted power for up to twenty seconds time.

Acceleration is strong from near idle to the engine's redline, and it makes it feel like accelerative power is everywhere in the powerband. The Boxster GTS needed just 3.9 seconds to get to 60 mph, which seems ridiculous for a mainstream car powered by a turbo four-cylinder and speaks itself about the car’s potential to blast like a maniac from a standstill.
The Porsche 718 Boxster ride and handling are very competent and far better than the competitiors. The weight distribution is perfectly done to give it a mature and balanced handling while the suspenison setup is tuned to be a bit more forgiving. the ride quality is good and not as bone-jarring as the bigger 911. The handling of the Boxster is also superb and even noobs will feel at home while driving the pocket rocket. If you are still unsatisfied with the handling then the optional Porsche's adaptive suspension (PASM) is provided to let you unleash the car’s full potential.
The 2019 718 Boxster sports a slightly beefier brake setup which improved the already better brakes to perform even more better. The brake pedal is easy to modulate and the pedal response is progressive. The brake bite is sufficient to bring the Boxster to a standstill from 60 mph in just about 112 feet.

The 60-0 mph stopping distance for the Boxster is more than its competitors but it's more than adequate to put a leash on this beast and can take care of any panic braking situations.
The Porsche 718 Boxster deliver a repectable 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and a combined mpg of 24. The 718 Boxster that comes with the 7-speed PDK transmission sees a slightly better gas numbers. Alongside Boxster’s rivals, the Mercedes SLC is quite an efficient sport-looking hardtop. However, Audi A5 just nudges past in the frugality race.

The Boxster isn’t the most fuel-efficient of the lot and has a livable range either be it in the city or on the highways. But hey who is complaining here as with all that power mileage is the least of all concerns.
The Porsche 718 Boxster offers a driver centric cabin with sporty yet comfortable front seats. The seats are drapped in high-quality materials that comprises of leather and synthetic suede. There are four different seat types available for the 718, and irrespective of the type of the seat you chose there is one thing common among all that is all are very accommodating to almost every body size. All in all the comfort and ergonomics of the car are spot on and makes the driver and the co-passenger feel as comfortable as possible without compromising on the performance of the vehicle.

The seats in the 2019 Boxster might not have the adjustability like what the other rivals here have to offer, but there's enough room to get most drivers feel at home once you settle down. Although there is an optional 14-way power adjustable seats that offer even more side bolstering and overall support - perfect for track days. Thanks to a low seating position fitting taller drivers won’t be a problem.
Porsche offers its Porsche Communications Management infotainment system in the 718 Boxster. The setup is very engaging to use and offer quick feedback. The video quality is rather good and several apps, external and in-house, makes the system not only more practicality and useful but also helps in seamless integration with your device
Standard features include a seven-inch infotainment screen, SiriusXM satellite radio, Porsche Car Connect services, Bluetooth streaming, two USB ports, and two SD card slots as well as a six-speaker sound system that delivers a punchy soundtrack. Apple CarPlay is still not a part of the standard features list and Android Auto is missing altogether. Optional features are plenty and few of them worthing looking at include 10-speaker Bose surround sound system with a built-in subwoofer, Burmester high-end surround sound system with 12 speakers and a built-in subwoofer.
Some other key features are:
You're not buying the Boxster for its cargo-hauling capacity, but it is better than what the rivals have to offer because it has two trunks. The front trunk a.k.a frunk offers decent space, and the small rear trunk is also usable after you consider for the space taken by the top. That said, the 718 Boxster offer a combined 9.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Interior storage is as expected from a two-seat convertible, as is child-seat compatibility.

The cargo space isn’t Boxster’s forte. With a mediocre 9.7 cubic feet of cargo space, we will say if you need a cargo hauler you should look at other options before considering the Boxster.
The Porsche cars over time don't easily change the exterior design of the car. There wil be minor nips and tucks but nothing big or radical. In the same way the 2019 718 Boxster looks like every other Boxster but due to the recent redesign it is a bit more aggressive and has sharper body lines and a bigger front air intakes. Porsche keeps the exterior very basic in standard trim, and you won't find much of a difference in the higher trims either. That said, the rooftop is very efficient and has power-folding feature that can be operated at speeds of up to 31 mph.
The 718 Boxster measures at 172.4 inches in length, and the Boxster is 50.4 inches in height. The 718 Boxster is 70.9 inches wide with mirrors folded and has a 97.4-inch of wheelbase. Curb weights vary between the standard Boxster and the S as well as the transmission choice. The lightest Boxster with the manual transmission weighs only 2,944 lbs, while the title of heaviest Boxster goes to the S weighing in at 3,054 lbs.

The 4.3 inches of ground clearance in the Boxster is better among the others in comparison. Either be it normal city driving or those big bumps neither would prove to be a task for a daily driver.
Key highlights of the exterior features include:
The Porsche 718 Boxster is not a mass market car so it is not suprising to see that it hasn't been tested by either the IIHS or the NHTSA. As there is no relevant data available, it's even more difficult to paint a clear picture of the actual levels of safety offered by the 718 Boxster, but Porshce under its belt has a long and credible history of making some of the best sports cars in the world. The Boxster is no different and comes with decent active and safety features to take care of you in case of an emergency.
Some of the safety features include
The Mercedes does not even come close to the athleticism and opulence of the Porsche. While costing 10 grand more than the SLC 300 Roadster, the 718 Boxster makes sure that price difference is worth it by kitting the Boxster with almost everything a sports convertible should house. The German rivals truly have no comparison and if you can afford a further ten grand, Porsche's racing heritage should appeal more than the Silver Arrow.
The Jaguar F-type Convertible is a breath of fresh new air in this segment. With the cars now becoming more and more precise, with pinpoint accurate handling, the F-type breaks the tradition by focusing on fun. It is a blunt knife among sharp razors, although it doesn't mean it is inferior in any way.
Two Convertibles with some similarities, but otherwise different in most aspects such as the horsepower, starting price, fuel economy, ground shadow size, height, and maximum occupancy. First of all, there is a notable difference in the starting price of the 2019 Audi A5 convertible, which is $6,200 less than the base MSRP of the 2018 Porsche 718 Boxster. Also, the 2019 718 Boxster has a more powerful engine and gets 4 mpg less than the 2019 A5. Besides, not only is the A5 convertible larger, but it's also taller than the 718 Boxster. And finally, you'll seat two more passengers in the Audi A5 convertible than in the Porsche 718 Boxster. All in all, Audi is more practical and Porsche is more performance-oriented. You got to choose your poison wisely here.
The Porsche Boxster 718 is the benchmark among all the convertibles as far as handling and driving dynamics are concerned. The Porsche offers a tank-like build on the inside and the outside, feels punchy, and powerful and is an absolute treat to drive. However, compare it to the BMW and you will feel that the 718 may be a bit expensive for what it offers. The Bimmer offers similar levels of performance as the Porsche, is more fuel-efficient and practical than the same and is nearly 10 grand cheaper than it. If you want the best driving convertible without spending a fortune, the Porsche Boxster comes closest to fulfilling this deal. But if you are tight on budget and want a Convertible that can do everything that the Porsche does but with a small compromise on the handling, the Z4 is a no brainer then.
The Porshce 718 Boxster with time has become a more mature yet more powerful sports car. Due to this the Boxster especially has been receiveing a lot of attention from prospective buyers these days. The Boxster is offered with a tubro-four engine that is capable of sub five seconds 0-60 mph run, delivers decent fuel economy figures, and is comfortable to drive. No wonder Porsche advertises the 718 Boxster as the perfect daily-driver Porsche. For those who can't go for the bigger 911 the 718 Boxster is the short cut to nirvana. That said, the rivals have started getting better and you can't ignore them but still they ahve few more miles to cover before they can catch up with the 718 Boxster.
