Overall Rating
The recent updates have included a more impressive list of features and options to choose from. One of the biggest highlights has to be the introduction of the new infotainment system. Audi has always been known to have the best tech in the business and with this upgrade, they are pushing the envelope even further. The 2020 Audi S5 Coupe stands between the well-established likes of the Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro, and the Porsche Boxter.
The Audi S5 Coupe slots in between the practical S4 and the blazing-fast S6 in Audi’s current lineup. Often considered as a sleeker alternative to the practical and roomy S4, the S5 Coupe essentially utilizes the same platform as the S4 and offers a sportier experience, while compromising a little bit on practicality. However, the S5 makes a great case for itself as a relatively affordable sports tourer, that comes loaded to the gills with features.
The S5 Coupe is offered with quite a lot of equipment as standard fitment and should suffice for most people. However, if you really do need a particular set of features, you should consider opting for the various optional packages on offer, which are available as additional extras, even on the base Premium variant.
However, stepping up to higher variants do give you a particular set of features as standard, for a lesser price than the optional packages.

The Audi S5 is the midsize coupe offering in Audi’s ever-expanding lineup. The S5 Coupe does cost quite a lot more than some of its competitors, but it still does manage to provide a relatively fun experience, while driving down long roads.

The Audi S5 Coupe might not feature the most amount of power for its segment, but it still does offer an exhilarating driving experience, that helps the S5 feel quite exciting to drive.
While the S5 Cabriolet’s engine does feel very eager and free-revving, it can’t hold its own when it comes to outright straight-line performance.
The 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 does feature a decent amount of power throughout the rev range, ensuring that the car does remain on its toes at all times, but this engine does struggle to keep up with its competitors since they offer way more power from their motors.

The S5 Coupe also doesn’t fare well in terms of its top speed, since it falls behind rivals which are offered at much lower prices.
The S5 has always been amazing in terms of handling, and the 2021 Audi S5 doesn’t disappoint in this department. Corners and turns can be taken at high speeds, without any chances of rolling over or losing balance, thanks to the adaptive dampers on offer, which can adjust the suspension stiffness by gauging the car’s lean angle and wheel direction.
This sophisticated system has helped Audi make its cars handle better than they did ever before.
The S5 comes equipped with the S-line package as standard fitment, which adds larger and beefier brakes to the car. This system utilizes a six-piston setup that does work very effectively and brings the vehicle to a halt in a few seconds.

The S5’s overall weight does increase its overall stopping distance by quite a bit, but it still does take nearly the same distance as its competitors, which does highlight how well the braking system works in bringing the vehicle to a halt.
Audi’s vehicles might not be among the most fuel-efficient vehicles around, but the S5 does make itself look like an economy car when compared to its rivals. While its rivals are able to manage a measly 19 mpg on an average, the Audi S5 manages to outclass its rivals by offering an impressive 23 mpg, which helps it save a significant amount of fuel, in both city and highway driving conditions.

The Audi S5 is also able to return the best range among its rivals since it also comes with a relatively large fuel tank, which helps the vehicle run for long distances without requiring it to stop for refueling. This makes the S5 the best vehicle among its competitors for long-distance cruising.
The S5 coupe might be advertised as a four-seater vehicle, but it's rear seats are extremely small and definitely not suitable for full-grown adults. In fact, the lack of sufficient headroom and legroom severely limits this seat to be used only by small kids, that too for shorter distances. The S5’s doors also do not open up as wide as other coupes in this segment, which also plays a big role in limiting the way one can access the rear row comfortably.
The rear seats also have basic features like climate control, seat heating, and cup holders, which further makes the rear row feel like an afterthought. The front seats are an entirely different story though since the seats offer an excellent amount of padding and support, which helps in improving comfort over longer journeys. The seat bottoms are also the perfect balance between being absolutely firm and extremely soft, further increasing the overall comfort for the occupants upfront.
The front seats also offer standard heating, with a massage function built-in, along with 10-way power seats, which simplifies the process of getting to your desired driving position. The S5’s dashboard also features really good-quality plastics, which plays a huge role in uplifting the overall cabin ambiance.

The S5 Coupe is available with a brand new 10.1-inch touchscreen display that comes with Audi’s latest operating system, as standard fitment across all variants. This screen looks much more modern than the older setup and the interface on offer is also quite a lot smoother than what is offered on its rivals. Not only do you get Android Auto and Apple Carplay as standard, but you also get satellite radio and a 10 speaker music system, which sounds pretty decent.
Upgrading to higher variants does get you an upgraded 19 speaker Bang & Olufsen music system that is simply out of the world in terms of overall audio quality! Not only is the bass vibrant, but it's also quite pleasant and distortion-free, which makes it an audiophile’s delight. Stepping up to the Premium Plus and Prestige variants also get you navigation, Audi Connect Plus telematics services, Connected car features and the digital driver’s display, which helps in making the cabin feel more modern and expensive, along with pairing up with the touchscreen system to display various controls and features to the driver, without disturbing his line of sight.Â
The Audi S5 had recently received a complete model change in 2018, which gave the car larger headlights, LED lamps front and back, and the trademark grille upfront, which does look quite elegant and classy, when compared to its competitors. For the 2020 model year, Audi has continued this design theme mostly unchanged, with a few minor updates like the updated taillight graphics, which have helped in making the car feel more upmarket and premium.
Overall, the Audi S5 is definitely one of the prettiest vehicles in its segment, beating out its rivals in terms of looks and aesthetics.

The 2020 Audi S5 Coupe comes with quite a lot of active safety features as standard, something that’s not that common in its segment. The S5 Coupe has also scored a full 5-star rating in NHTSA’s safety rating tests, which is mostly down to Audi offering unique active safety features like:
The S5 Coupe and the Camaro might be vying for the same segment, but both these vehicles follow different approaches to appeal to two different sets of buyers. The Camaro is an all-out muscle car, which comes with a variety of engine choices across various price points, and equipment levels. This makes the Camaro easily customizable to one’s tastes and preferences.
The S5 Coupe is offered in only one configuration, which comes with a whole array of luxurious features from the base variant, along with sporting a higher price tag, thus targeting someone looking for a more refined and sophisticated vehicle.
The Mustang has had quite an illustrious history throughout the decades, featuring as one of the most popular sports cars ever built. The Mustang, in typical American muscle car fashion, is offered across various engines and price points, which helps it target various parts of the crowd since there is a Mustang for literally everyone at every price point.
The Audi S5 focuses on a particular section of the market and offers a whole host of equipment, which helps it stand out as a more luxurious and premium grand tourer.
The Porsche Boxster is the only vehicle in this comparison, that actually comes quite close to Audi’s price tag. However, for a similar price, you get a smaller 4 cylinder engine with much lower power output and a smaller fuel tank, which does make the Boxster a cumbersome vehicle to own on a daily basis. However, the Boxster does offer the exclusivity of being a Porsche and offers much better interiors than the Audi S5.
The Audi S5 is the best-balanced sports coupe you can buy in the United States since it doesn’t try too hard to be sporty, while also not being too luxurious for its own good. Striking a balance between these two extremes is usually a very hard job, but Audi has seemed to have nailed the formula with the S5, which has helped them price the vehicle very reasonably, although the Mustang and the Camaro might seem like better options at their price point.
However, you’ve got to remember that the Mustang and the Camaro only get access to the larger engines in higher variants, which does send the price shooting upwards, and very close to the S5’s pricing. The S5 also offers quite a lot of luxury features at its price point, which is something really difficult to come across nowadays, making the Audi S5 a really good deal in our eyes.
