2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T Review

The Lusso came as a successor of the Ferrari FF replacing it in the year 2016. Where the GTC4Lusso was powered by a V12, the GTC4Lusso T packs an equally powerful twin-turbo V8. This shooting-brake makes over 602 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque.

The cabin of the 2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T feels posh and elegant. The use of exquisite leather and well laid out dashboard gives the Ferrari GTC4Lusso its deserving appeal. The 2020 GTC4Lusso in its shooting brake form factor opens up more space on the inside. However, at the high price point, the GTC4Lusso T misses out on basic features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The placement of the rear-view camera at the lowest point on the bumper and the lack of a rear windscreen wiper does take away the usability of this all-weather Ferrari. The powerful V8 motor uses twin-scroll turbochargers to put out a maximum of 602 horsepower and a might 561 lb-ft of torque.

The Ferrari GTC4Lusso was released in 2016 as an alternative to the legendary Ferrari FF. Just like any other Ferrari model, the GTC4Lusso T will not get any kinds of upgrades in 2020. The GTC4Lusso T with the smaller engine came out in 2018 making a wider choice for buyers at the premium price. However, Ferrari has notified that they might bring up an all-new Ferrari SUV which might replace the GTC4Lusso in either late 2021 or 2022. The GTC4Lusso T also gets a wide range of styling options including various choices of Exterior Paints, Styling upgrades, Seat materials, and even minor styling elements.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The 2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso comes in two basic trims. You can either buy the Ferrari GTC4Lusso with a naturally aspirated V12 or a twin-turbo V8 in trim named the GTC4Lusso T. The GTC4Lusso T comes with a twin-turbocharged V8 motor producing over 6020 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque. The GTC4Lusso T is also luxurious on the inside with styling including exquisite leather upholstery. This Ferrari can also comfortably seat 4 in the cabin along with a decent amount of luggage. The overall practicality of the car can be compared to a 2020 Porsche Panamera 4S Sport Turismo.

The Ferrari GTC4Lusso T has a wagon-type architecture which lets it aid more practicality along with the ferocious performance from the twin-turbo V8. However, the GTC4Lusso T lacks the Ferrari flair with the Shooting Brake style design. Even features in the infotainment system and lack of modern safety features is a big miss in this modern era, especially at this hefty price point.

Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Owning a Ferrari is not a game for everyone. This expensive car does show its exclusiveness in the built quality, durability, and company backup. The GTC4Lusso is one of the most desired 4-seater performance cars in the market and is the sole shooting brake offered with a V12.

RELIABILITY AND OWNERSHIP COSTS

J.D. Power came into action in 1986. Starting the career as an advertisement brand, working with large MNCs like Ford, J.D Power is presently one of the leading Global Market Research Companies that work in Data analysis and consumer intelligence. J.D. Power conducts two types of surveys among a group of random and specifically targeted groups of consumers. The VDS or Vehicle Dependency Study is a survey conducted among a set of users of a particular car model to understand the various problems faced during the ownership of the vehicle in the first three years. The second survey method is called the IQs of the initial quality Survey. Here they measure the amplitude of problems experienced by a user in the initial 90 days of ownership. They combine the results to produce the J.D. Power report that gives a detailed idea about the Quality and Reliability, Dealership Experience, Driving Experience, and the Resale Value. The Ferrari GTC4Lusso T has not yet been rated by J.D. Power. This is due to the low sales volume of the car in the States. In Flowers has not yet rated any Ferrari models.

Owning a Ferrari is a dream for any car lover. The Racing Red paint job covering the excellence of engineering would make you feel thirsty for the dagger if adrenaline pierces your veins to eternity. The 2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T is one of the rarest supercars that offer great practicality with performance. Did you know that you cannot own a Ferrari if you have a Lamborghini? Well, cling to Carindigo.com and know more.

Ferrari offers a great warranty for all the models across the range. The GTC4Lusso T gets a 3-year bumper-to-bumper basic coverage which lasts for unlimited miles. The GTC4Lusso T also gets a powertrain warranty that lasts for 3 years with unlimited mileage. You also get Roadside Assistance for 3 years and a maintenance coverage of 7 years, a standard with the Ferrari GTC4Lusso.

The Ferrari GTC4Lusso is expensive to maintain. The low fuel economy and high maintenance cost do add to the hefty price. The car runs anywhere from 2.0 to 3.0 miles for $1. This translates to an average of $10 for every 25 miles. The Ferrari uses premium fuel and with an average combined fuel economy of 18 MPG, the car would cost you more than $2,300 in a year, approximating an average of 15,000 miles per year.

Buying Advice

The 2021 Ferrari GTC4Lusso comes with a host of accessories and styling chives. The customization choices you get with the GTC4Lusso is simply amazing and lets you truly personalize your GTC4Lusso. However, the hefty price tag and the high maintenance cost does make you think of the other choices. Ferrari also has some very strange and strict norms to give ownership to. The brand prompts you to live with a used Ferrari first to get into a brand new one. The brand even does background checks, along with a set of agreements before handing over a Ferrari.

Engine and Performance
9.9/10

Unlike the V12-powered GTC4Lusso, the Ferrari GTC4Lusso T is powered by a 3.9L Turbo Charged V8. The engine produces over 602 horsepower at a high 7,500 RPM. The engine also produces 561 lb-ft of torque at just 5,750 RPM. The early surge of torque aided by the twin-scroll turbochargers gives you a large enough powerband to play in.

The high-revving engine is seen in many Ferraris as well as in Maserati cars before. The motor is loved by enthusiasts all around the globe. The 90° Firing Interval makes that high pitch growl and lets it rev up to 7,500 RPM.

The GTC4Lusso T does not come with AWD. The lightweight AWD system which came with the V12 has been removed in the latter. However, this has made the Lusso more tail friendly and it loves to go sideways, especially with the traction control off. The Bentley Continental GT V8 and the Porsche 911 Turbo S get AWD as standard. All cars except the Aston Martin DB11 V8 get rear-wheel steering which aids the maneuverability of the car. The Aston Martin DB11 V8 is powered by the tested and proven Mercedes-Benz M177 motor which is found in many AMG cars. The ZF8HP transmission in the DB11 is not the slickest of the lot but offers great durability.

ACCELERATION AND BRAKING

The 2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T can touch 60MPH in just 3.5 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds slower than the V12 powered sibling. The GTC4Lusso T also screams its way to cover the standing quarter-mile in just under 11.5 seconds. The Ferrari GTC4Lusso T packs its pure performance at almost all revs. At city speeds, the car provides easy and comfortable driving dynamics which can switch to a pure enthusiast machine on the track.

However, the Lusso does not give you much driver-assist electronics, which are expected at this hefty price point. The Ferrari GTC4Lusso T also gets upgraded brakes for more stopping power which lets it stop from 60MPH in just 108 feet.

The GTC4Lusso T gets 4-wheel steering which aids high-speed stability and low-speed maneuverability. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels making it easy to nip in and out of tight spaces. At high speeds, the wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels to let you carve sharp corners with ease. Porsche is renowned for its braking system as well. The 2020 Porsche 911 Turbo S can touch speeds of 60 MPH from a standstill in just under 2.6 seconds. The car also can cover the standing quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds. The GTC4Lusso does feel a touch slower compared to the competition, as it struggles for traction on launch. The AWD cars can effectively put the power down whereas the RWD cars struggle initially. The Bentley Continental GT V8 coupe gets the largest brakes in the class and offers phenomenal stopping power.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Ferrari engineers are least bothered about fuel economy and are concentrated to deliver the most performance out of the engine. The instrument cluster of the Ferrari GTC4Lusso doesn't even have a Mileage indicator. Less number of cylinders does not translate into more mileage. The GTC4Lusso T delivers the same MPG as its elder V12, powered sibling. The GTC4Lusso T can return up to 15MPG in the city and return up to 21 MPG on the highway. On a combined daily driving basis we can expect the GTC4Lusso T to deliver up to 17 MPG.

One of the reasons for the tight fuel economy is the power concentration at the higher rev line. This tempts you to push the car often to get the maximum.

However, Ferrari has crafted this motor to deliver the best in class performance and driving experience which is irreplaceable. The Porsche 911 Turbo S returns up to 19 MPG in the city which is acceptable considering the sheer performance it delivers. Justifying the ‘Grand Tourer’ badge the Ferrari GTC4Lusso T gets the biggest gas tank capacity at 24 gallons which lets it have a maximum highway range of 504 miles on a full tank of gas.

Interior
9.9/10

The 2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T gets a well laid out cabin. As standard, you get dual-zone climate control and Sport Front seats. The seats offer great support and offer a sporty driving posture. You get the typical Ferrari steering wheel which gives you all the basic functions on it. You can use the red knob to switch between different traction settings which alter the suspension, stiffness of the steering, engine characteristics, as well as throttle response.

The GTC4Lusso T also offers a great number of customization options inside. You can choose from 3 different styles of chairs for the GTC4Lusso - Standard, Daytona, and diamond Pattern. You can also choose from a wide range of 15 interior shades along with 9 different shades for the floor carpeting. You can also choose from 6 various background colors and styles for the Rev Counter in the instrument cluster.

The GTC4Lusso T comes in the shooting-brake-type avatar which steals away its typical Ferrari Flair. However, the large 20-inch wheels and the amazing paint scheme gives the Lusso its charm.

You get a host of customization options for the exterior which includes 7 shades of solid paint jobs, 9 shades of Metallic finishes, 10 historical shades, and 2 special paint jobs. Unlike the Bentley Continental GT V8, the Ferrari offers various exterior styling options to make your GTC4Lusso T unique from the rest of the world. You can even customize the minor finishes for the car which includes grille designs and exhaust outlets. You get a choice of six three different Grille patterns - Standard, Chrome, and Dark along with three different styles of Quad-Exhaust pipes including - Sport, Black Ceramic, and Standard. The Aston Martin DB11 V8 also offers extensive styling. The 911 Turbo S does not get as many choices as the other two competitors and sticks to the basic portfolio as the other Porsche models. The Mclaren however comes in a variety of flashy shades which gives it a unique presence on the road.

  • Shooting Brake Design
  • 28-Paint Choices
  • 6-Brake Caliper colors

Safety
8.0/10

The 2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T has not yet been safety rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). One of the reasons is the high cost of the car which is more than $260,000. However, the F151M Chassis is strengthened to handle high-speed dynamics and adds more safety. The GTC4Lusso T gets basic electronic aids such as a track-focused ABS and ESC system with various drive mods. Some of the outstanding safety features of the 2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T are quoted below.

  • Reverse Parking Camera
  • Airbags
  • Park Assist
  • LED Headlamps
  • ABS
  • EBD
  • Traction Control

Competition
6.0/10

2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T VS 2020 Porsche 911 Turbo S

The Porsche 911 Turbo S is an amazing driver's machine that delivers immense performance from its 6 cylinders. Even the sophisticated PDK gearbox provides slick gear shifts which let it launch well. However, Porsche fails to provide that ‘Supercar’ feel which the GTC4Lusso has.

2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T VS 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 coupe

The Bentley Continental GT V8 feels more premium than the cabin of the Ferrari. Bentley makes the perfect blend of performance with luxury by offering a well put together cabin and a powerful V8. However, the Ferrari is built for true performance

2020 Ferrari GTC4Lusso T VS 2020 Aston Martin DB11 V8 Coupe

The 2020 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe also gets a powerful twin-turbo V8 motor. However, the Ferrari GTC4Lusso T gets better rear-seat comfort along with more boot space making it the better Grand Tourer in the comparison. The GTC4Lusso T also gets more exterior and interior customization choices.

Final Verdict

The Ferrari GTC4Lusso T is the most practical Ferrari that you can buy today. The Lusso does lose out on the Ferrari Flair which comes with other models like the Ferrari 812 Superfast. However, in the GTC4Lusso T, you get an amazing interior with a lightning-fast V8 powertrain which is irreplaceable by the competition. However, the GTC4Lusso is the best to drive with the V12 and the lightweight AWD system., The sound of the V12 aided by the great grip is the best combo you can expect from a Ferrari.
