Overall Rating
The A220 Sedan is an advanced mobile device that can really move you in the lap of luxury. The delivery of turbo power is as you would expect, bold! The 2020 Mercedes Benz A-Class makes use of the same 2.0-Liter Inline-4 engine as the older generation.
Mercedes Benz was a symbol of luxury and class in the early days. From then, we surely have come a long way, with Mercedes and the other premium luxury car brands have become so competitive that luxury has crept into the likes of affordability. With a timeless body style, workmen style cockpit and hot hatch like performance, Mercedes have really set the mark with this car.
Upgrade from base A220 to A220 4MATIC does not open the door to any world-class features except the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, all the while not justifying a price hike of $5,000. The base A220 Sedan hits the sweet spot with cost, features, performance and thus is our pick of the lot.

Just as its much older siblings, A-Class is totally packed to the brim with the segment-leading features. It’s practical, lots of space on the inside but what it lacks is the massive boot space that these cars are often associated with. At a price of $32,800, the Mercedes Benz A-Class seems like a total bargain for the absolute joy it gives, while driving it.

Under the hood, the A-Class is powered by the same old 2.0-Liter Inline-4 powerhouse that gives a lot of character to the midsize sedan. It makes use of a single turbo. It does help to keep the turbo lag to a bare minimum which makes the engine feel peppy and easy to drive in the city as well. Front-wheel drive is standard with the A220, although what remains to be seen is what drive train the AMG A-Class would hold once it comes out. The potent inline-4 motor under the hood of the Mercedes Benz A-Class is mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and has insanely quick-shifting properties.

The Mercedes Benz A-Class should return around 24 mpg in the city and the figure should bump up to 36 mpg on the highway. The real-world performance might differ. Fuel economy is nowhere near impressive, but moreover, with the 4matic version, the mileage further dips by 1 MPG.

The Mercedes does an impressive job of returning a combined 28 MPG despite being pretty heavy. Hyundai Sonata is in the spotlight here with the better overall EPA figures. Cadillac CT4 has the lowest fuel efficiency of the lot.
Mercedes cars are the epitome of luxury and premium features, and they have bundled all into one small sedan. Plastics are soft to touch and every panel feels solidly put together. A lot of attention to detail has been given design and the quality of materials used. Keeping in mind that this is the lowest offering from the Merc, if you want more flair, the cabin can always be upgraded with upscale options such as leather upholstery, heated front seats and LED interior lighting. It’s high on seating comfort and practicality.

All of the said sedans can carry up to 5 passengers at a time and are quite similarly sized and as well. That being said, the Hyundai Sonata on paper has the most amount of rear headroom among its competitors. The seats in the Mercedes A-Class is not the most spacious of the lot as its competitors provide for a far more airy experience.Â
But the way the roof is designed, the shoulder room gets affected and is only good for two passengers at a time, as when the third passenger gets in, the cabin gets a bit claustrophobic.
Mercedes Benz A-Class is a well-stocked luxury sedan with all the bells and whistles already equipped. It also gets a standard 7-inch central infotainment display which comes standard with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The display is crisp and the visibility is great too. The Infotainment system is based on a new platform called the Mercedes Benz User experience, shortened for MBUX, which has a built-in digital assistant that can listen to instructions give in a natural speech. The system is responsive to inputs and displays all the vital information which is easy to read as well. And for all the music enthusiasts out there, an eight-speaker sound sytem has got your back as well.
The trunk in the A-Class is decent enough for a small budget-friendly luxury sedan. Although it is not so generous when compared to the other sedans. The seats fold down flat to increase the cargo carrying capacity but it’s still not as practical as a hatchback.Â
On the inside, the designers have been generous enough to provide enough cubby spaces which uplifts the practicality even further.Â

Hyundai Sonata has a cavernous boot and not just on paper but it’s designed in such a way that the loading is easier and it’s opening is square-ish as well. On the other hand, the Mercedes A-Class has the smallest boot of the lot, and rightly so not much can be expected from Mercedes in terms of cargo space.
The Mercedes Benz A-Class might just be the ultimate sleeper. You’d have to be true die hard Merc fanboy to like the Mercedes A-Class. The A-Class sedan is related to the GLA crossover and CLA four-door coupe. It’s handsome yet traditional. Although the front and rear fascia have undergone a major facelift. Obviously it now rides like a sedan, rather than a hatchback. Although, the tapering roofline gives it a coupe-like body line that looks good but steals the headroom of the rear row. Seventeen-inch wheels connect the car to the road and the list of exterior features is aplenty, which includes automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, etc. Its good features are complemented by a handsome exterior.

Hyundai Sonata feels light on its feet and that’s down to its lower curb weight. Coupled with that, the Sonata is packing the longest wheelbase which translates to a roomier cabin. The Mercedes Benz A-Class tips the scale at almost 3285lbs and is even heavier than the Audi A3. This excess weight helps the car to remain stable at high speeds.
Some of the prominent exterior features of the Mercedes Benz A-Class are:
There is one thing that Mercedes holds in its favor and that is no matter what Mercedes-Benz you’re driving, you can always have confidence that it will hold some of the most reliable active and passive safety features in the Automotive industry. The build quality and the sheet metal used on the A-Class seems strong and doesn’t flex that easily. Government safety organizations have yet not tested the A-Class for its safety prowess, as it is too soon for the car to go through a wall. Mercedes holds the reputation for constructing their vehicles in such a way that dramatically shortens the chances of an accident.
These germans have so much going on with their cars on the inside and out, that it sometimes becomes difficult enough to determine which one’s better than the other. The Mercedes A-class comes off as quite a capable sedan for this segment. The Audi although having the same engine configuration produces lesser power figures than the Merc. Although contrasted with the Audi A3, the A3 is a better bundle with better driving dynamics, accompanied by extravagance and plushness. Audi offers more space and is also more economical in the long run.
The Cadillac CT4 has always been a solid contender and gives most of its rivals a run for their money. Fitted with2.0-Liter turbocharged Inline-4, the A-Class churns out 237hp, along with 258 lb-ft of torque which happens to be one of the greatest power figures in this competition. Although, in comparison, when on the move the A-Class holds its stand by covering the ground with confidence all the while packing a sporty edge to it which makes it quite a fun car to drive and throw it around corners.
The A-Class is the cheapest car from the three-pointed star automotive car maker. Being an entry-level luxury car, the A-Class stands strong on the expectations one keeps when procuring a set of german luxury wheels. The crisp throttle response and low-end torque enable the A-Class to be fit for a driver-friendly car. Ther is less space at the rear and the cargo isn’t very welcoming either. It’s the best car for someone who loves to fly under the radar and loves the luxury and occasional enthusiastic drives on the weekend
