Overall Rating
While the Mercedes Benz S class is the epitome of luxury the crazy people at AMG made the best of luxury, better. Fitting a buff Biturbo 4.0 liter thumping V-8 pumps a glorious 603 horsepower making a car the size of a small bungalow never feels low on power.
Be a dictator, world leader or a millionaire you have marked your presence in the map of the world but what do you need to mark your presence when your convoy rushes on the streets. Nothings says presence as well a Mercedes-Benz S class, it is in another league of its own. The then the AMG badge slapped on it puts it in another league of its own.
You sure can drive your luxury yacht on the road but to really experience the flavors of luxury you gotta be chauffeured around in your expensive S-class. So, we recommend you to get Executive Rear Seat package which brings folding tables and upgraded back seats if you still are not convinced the Plus version gets you a ton of features with aircraft like seats and a feature to warm or cool your drinks and six feature massage settings and active seat ventilation system. To make your most comfortable ride more sublime there exists Magic Body Control which scans the road ahead and adjusts the suspension according to the road. Pretty sure you’d be sleeping like a baby even if your driver have some fun going sideways half the journey.

Yes, a luxury comfortable large sedan has an AMG hand-built engine which barks, screams and pops that is sure to crack your up for the times when you are in the driver’s seat for a change. The 4.0 liter V-8 pumps out a tremendous 603 hp and 664lb-ft of torque which does not make this almost 5200-pound machine no slouch at all touching 60 miles in 3.4 seconds.
Smooth doesn’t even begin to describe the velvety effortless power delivery this engine provides, you happen to pull away from traffic lights with linear and quite acceleration when in comfort mode. Do not think that this elegant behavior is consistent in sport+ mode because when it’s time to hustle, the S63 is willing to oblige as the purr in the comfort mode becomes growl in sport+.
Sure, the 7 series has a grandeur of a V12 under the hood but does not match the torquey hand-built V-8 from the horsepower maestros at AMG. The others like Porsche and Audi too have a V-8 but do not even come close to the performance figures of the Benz.

Even the base model of the S-class offers lightning-fast acceleration putting the S63 AMG in the league of its own. The 0-60mph time of 3.4 seconds is enough to put supercars to shame. To put things in perspective, Alfa Romeo 4C, a carbon tub lightweight Italian super-car does 60 miles from 0 in 4.0 seconds. This S63 is even quicker than the V12 S65 model which is immensely pricier as in S65 all the power is sent to the rear wheels only resulting in glorious burnouts.

In the top luxury segment, the BMW and Porsche come close to Benz in showcasing their acceleration skills but loses by two-tenths of a second and Audi drops down to the bottom of the ranks. Hence, again S-class still is unbeaten in the performance figures.
There is something so raw, barbaric and lalochezia like feeling going sideways in a 2.5-ton car. Unfortunately, the S-class is to travel in style, elegance and drowned in luxury sipping on expensive champagne after a long day being rich. Although, the handling of S-class is impressive though, while it is big, it feels light in your hands, and the chassis bites harder than you expect.
The cabin is completely soundproof all you can hear is the silence and the streetlights passing by bathing in the soothing silence, perfect surrounding for you think about your next big idea. Bumps do not become your enemy now, you see a bump down the road you do not feel it, quiet magical it seems.
To stop a 2.5 ton mammoth on steroids you need huge muscle and then some. The front brakes are 15.4-inch diameter steel brakes and rear is 14.2 inches in diameter. The brakes pedal feel is light and does not happen to work unless you shove your foot down. This is because you do not want to spill the expensive champagne your precious passenger is sipping on.

Currently, the braking data is not released by any companies but according to previous trends, the braking distance for Merc should turn out lesser than the rivals because of the 4MATIC feature which helps to maintain traction either while braking or off the line.
One hell of a car sure needs a hell lot of fuel to show off its skills. Although, somehow S-class boasts some impressive numbers on the fuel economy with a combined MPG of 20 miles per gallon of fuel. These numbers do not really matter to the crazy rich buyers though.

Other than the Panamera and S-class other competitions are struck off the list of fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly cars just touching the 16mpg mark which is well enough less than 20mpg provided by the S-class.
You walk to your S-class, the LED illuminated sills welcome you inside a marvelous cabin elegantly. The executive seats make you feel like you’re home. The silence prevails that isolates you. It is a feeling on its own, nothing like such you’ve ever experienced. The silence is addictive, your mind gets cleared of all thoughts.
You’ll be surprised that you are fresher than you started off two hours ago. The witchcraft that has gone into making the cabin of S-class is extraordinary. Seats are more comfortable than you’d ever expect, the cabin is as luxurious as a royal palace. The whole cabin is illuminated by LED lights which can be customized according to the mood, they call it the mood lightening.

The S-class is sumptuously loaded, and blissfully spacious four-door sedan. Talking of luxury, look inside at that gorgeous cockpit, made even more mouth-watering thanks to optional Porcelain/Black Nappa leather ($4,450) and Designo black-lacquer trim ($1,300). The cabin is also home to standard amenities such as heated and ventilated front seats with a massage feature, keyless entry, and ignition, a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, what else could you ask for?
For a base price of $151,400 you get most of the creature comforts you’d possibly imagine including an 12.3 inch hi-res infotainment center with a list of features you can’t count, it’s exhaustive, I’ve tried. It includes a 13-speaker Burmester surround-sound stereo as well as Bluetooth phone and streaming audio. SiriusXM satellite radio is standard, along with wireless-device charging and navigation. All models come with a Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. The options list includes a rear-seat DVD player with wireless headsets.
Carrying your weekend trip luggage could be an easy job for your car if you are a light packer. Although, the S-class offers a little less space for luggage as compared to some rivals, makes up in the legroom department.

With the S65, you get 12.3 cubic feet of room for your luggage. That's less than the 18.2 cubic feet of cargo space offered by the BMW M760i. The S63 sedan provides 18 cubic feet of cargo space. Convertible and coupe variants provide 6.9 cubic feet and 10.4 cubic feet of cargo room, respectively.

As said above, nothing marks presence as well as an S-class. The imposing grille and a long hood make every car to bow down. S-class is a big car, feels like it too, you’ll be amazed to count the number of steps it takes for you to walk along its length. The iconic three-layer head and taillights still marks the presence on the road. The strong shoulders convey strength and confidence. For the wheels, AMG offers 5 AMG forged designs. Exterior Carbon Fiber package is also available along with the AMG night styling package.

It is quite evident that the S-class still poses a “land yacht” demeanor which is unmatched by anything in this class.
Standard is just about every anti-accident feature you could imagine; with the optional driver-assistance package ($2,250) the car is even safer and, in certain conditions such as stop-and-go highway traffic, it can drive itself. The safety feature also makes the car to brake itself when it senses a collision.
BMW tried everything they could to touch the Mercedes expertise in making a luxury-performance car, but the crown still belongs on top of the S-class.
BMW tried to lure young buyers by adding gimmicky tech features into the car but in the process, they forgot the ultimate luxury is basic creature comforts and to perfect it, that’s what they missed out on. If your buy is more leaning towards tech stuff, you must go for the BMW although, Merc still offers enough geeky stuff with comfort and luxury features which BMW failed to reach.
Even though the Audi is significantly cheaper than the rivals maybe even better in driving dynamics, what Merc offers is worth the more money you’d spend.
Boasting sumptuous cabin design and muscular performance, the S63 reigns at top of the luxury-performance food chain. I think it is safe to say that,
“The Mercedes-Benz AMG S63 is the best performance-luxury sedan.Period.”
