Overall Rating
This ultra-luxury ride competes with Rolls Royce Ghost and Mercedes Maybach S Class, some of the most opulent wheels in its class. The newer model will be adding many features as well as an option four-seater configuration in order to lure more wealthy customers it’s way. Here’s our take on the 2021 Bentley Flying Spur that is soon going to be on sale in the US Market.
The 2021 Bentley Flying Spur remains unchanged as it was redesigned for the model year 2020. Although, a couple of new optional features have been introduced such as the Chief option that gets you a 4-seat configuration with two bucket seats in the rear along with a fixed center console. Also, you can now dress your Flying Spur's interior in newly available wood trim, carbon-fiber trim, or a machined metal finish.
The 2021 Bentley Flying Spur W12 is offered as a standalone variant. Though there's the Flying Spur V8, it is reviewed separately. The 2021 Flying Spur is currently on sale with a price starting from $216,700 MSRP. This is excluding a destination charge of $2,275 which the Flying Spur invites. The 2021 Bentley Flying Spur's lease price starts from $2,398 per month, for 48 months, with $14,990 due at the time of signing.Â
The expensive sticker price of Bentley Flying Spur can be justified by the power, comfort, futuristic infotainment, and advanced safety features provided by Spur. The standard model of Spur serves you all the necessary features you needed, so buying the standard model and then upgrading it according to your needs will be better than owning the first edition trim.

The 2021 Bentley Flying Spur comes with a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W-12 engine under its hood that cranks out 626 hp and 664 lb-ft torque. Further, the standard AWD drivetrain helps maintain great traction at higher speeds along with better acceleration.
The W12 engine remains relaxed below 2000 rpm with a surge of power being available past 3000 rpm and until the red line. Compared to fellow rivals, Bentley outperforms Rolls Royce Ghost's 6.6L V12 engine in terms of power output. Whereas the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580 is quite behind with its 496 hp 4L V8. Although, A V12 powered Maybach S680 model shall join the lineup in 2022.
The Flying Spur gets rebadged Brembo racing spec brakes that can control the huge chassis quite capably. It also gets advanced systems like ABS, stability control coordinates with the braking system to provide a confident driving experience. The Flying Spur handles relatively well for its heft. Going around corners is a treat in the Flying Spur courtesy of the standard adaptive suspension and rear-wheel-steering system.

Every car owner prefers to have a car delivering maximum fuel economy. But if you worry extensively about fuel economy numbers then Bentley might not impress you. The 2021 Bentley Flying Spur delivers EPA-rated city/highway/combined mpg of 12/19/15.
The low fuel economy numbers of Bentley can be justified by the powerful engine performance. Although this Bentley does get a fuel tank capacity of 24-gallons which is just humongous and lends the Flying Spur a range of around 336 miles in mixed driving conditions.

Most of the rivals in this segment are more or less in the same ballpark in terms of fuel economy. Although the Mercedes-Maybach S580 comes out to be slightly more efficient that's because it gets a smaller 8-cylinder engine. The Rolls-Royce Ghost's mpg figures aren't any better either.

"Bentley's interior designers managed to preserve the brand's prim and proper styling while incorporating modern tech features." - Car and Driver
The interior of the 2021 Flying Spur will remain unchanged as it was just revamped last year. However, a new Chief option is introduced that replaces the rear bench seat with two buckets and a fixed center console. Further, now you can also get your Spur in new optional interior trims such as wood, carbon fiber, and machined metal finish.Â
The eye-luring rotating 12.3-inch touchscreen makes the dashboard look geeky. The interior of the Spur is crafted with premium quality leather, polished wood. The 24-way power-adjustable front seats allow the driver to customize according to his need which enhances the ride quality.Â

"Other drivers either chase you to get a better look, or they sensibly get out of your way altogether." - Slashgear
The chassis of the Bentley Flying Spur was upgraded for the 2020 model. The same chassis is carried forward for the 2021 model. The standard 21-inch Twin-spoke painted alloy wheels look stunning but you can also upgrade to the optional 22-inch rims. The body-colored front and rear bumper with the chrome strips just increment the beauty of the Bentley Flying Spur.
The gorgeous design of front and tail lights offers a vintage look to this sedan. The front lamps are dual-projector LED and include crystalline DRLs, which make the Flying Spur stand out. The rear has a more sedate and refined appeal, but it nevertheless fits the car well. All this, while the "Flying B" logo at the front just works its charm and announces your arrival.

The Bentley Flying Spur's dimensions formulate a fine balance between performance and luxury. The shorter wheelbase with the rear-wheel steering lends the Spur its agility around corners. Though the Flying Spur's curb weight is no way on the lighter side, it does not hinder the sedan's agility and rather provides better on-road stability.
Some of the most notable exterior features of the 2021 Bentley Flying Spur are:

The Bentley Flying Spur has not yet been crash-tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS, which is no surprise considering its high price tag. Although, the Flying Spur is based on the reputed MSB platform from the Volkswagen Group which makes extensive use of aluminum in the frame and also gets adequate crumple zones and cabin safety characteristics.
Speaking of safety features, Bentley offers a decent suite of active and passive safety features as standard on the 2021 Flying Spur but most of the driver-assist highlights cost extra. Some of the key safety features offered in the 2021 Bentley Flying Spur are:

Both Bentley and Rolls Royce are some of the best luxurious car manufacturers in the world. However, the 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost's price is considerably higher than that of the Bentley. Both the cars offer almost the same amenities, safety features, interior and exterior structure, the key parameter where Bentley has an upper hand is in the engine performance. Both the cars are unarguably best but considering the price vs performance ratio, owning a Bentley Spur makes more sense.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is all-new for 2021 as it undergoes a generation change. The all-new 2021 Maybach S580 offers a stretched wheelbase, a well-appointed cabin, and a smooth and powerful V8 engine. The Maybach S580 is obviously less powerful than the Flying Spur owing to its smaller engine. Although, a V12 powered S680 model shall join the lineup in 2022. However, the trade-off feels fair as the Maybach S580 though less powerful is also cheaper than the Flying Spur.
The Bentley Flying Spur offers a powerful engine performance, nice handling, opulent interior, gorgeous exterior, futuristic infotainment, and top-notch safety features thus ticking all boxes. Bentley is now comparable to Rolls Royce but still, it needs more improvisations to surpass the RR level. Considering its price of $216,700, the 2021 Bentley Flying Spur still remains worth the time and money. Hence, if you are looking forward to getting one, then we are quite sure that it will satisfy all your needs and will offer you a soothing riding experience.
