The 2021 BMW 8 Series Coupe has a starting price of $88,000 for the 840i model while the 840i xDrive AWD variant is priced at $90,900. An additional destination charge of $995 is also applicable. A performance-oriented M850i is also available which we have reviewed separately. The 8 Series Coupe rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. These wheels can be upgraded to 19-inch double-spoke wheels with the optional $4,550 M Sport package. This package also adds black exterior trim and M Sport brakes with blue or black calipers. 

Another optional Driver Assistance Professional package adds the best safety features such as Traffic Jam Assistant, Automatic Parking Assist, etc for $2,800. BMW does not offer any additional packages to dress up the interior. The seats get premium leather treatment. The 10.25-inch touchscreen runs on the latest iDrive 7 infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sound duties are taken care of by a 16-speaker Harman Kardon premium surround sound system.

BMW has maintained a class for all the 8 Series Coupe and made sure that none of them is left behind. The 840i xDrive is quite reasonable as it provides punchy and satisfying performance plus an AWD drivetrain for a dazzling ride. It also comes with an extensive list of entertainment features. The 2021 BMW 8 Series Coupe is equipped with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine that gives 335 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. With an 8-speed automatic transmission, the power is driven to the rear wheels as standard but an AWD configuration is also available for an extra $2,900. Despite being the baby in the 8 Series punch, this engine is equally thrilling and rewards your eardrums with a raspy exhaust note all the while If you are looking for more power, pony up for an M850i and you'll get a twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp and 553 lb-ft. of torque for $108,900. 

The 2021 8 Series is certainly more of a big GT cruiser than it is a sports car but that doesn't mean it can't go around corners. The coupe will give you the confidence to shimmy around with ease even in the hardest of times with its predictable and rich handling. Handling is assisted by precise steering and a rear-biased xDrive AWD system which delivers phenomenal traction on the corner exit. Switch to comfort mode and it manages to run an S-Class Coupe-like ride quality and refinement. It's a phenomenal feat.

Acceleration goes hand-in-hand with the brand image since it’s impressive and delivers on what it promises, a hard-to-beat drive. The 2021 8 Series Coupe covers 0-60MPH in 5 seconds flat. Keep the throttle pinned and the coupe will clock the quarter of a mile lap in 13.4 seconds. Speaking of the braking arrangement, the 8 Series Coupe comes standard with strong ceramic brakes that takes 108 feet to halt from 60-0 MPH. Furthermore, you can also opt for the optional 6-piston M Sport brakes with blue or black calipers for better braking performance. 

The pricey Porsche 911 Carrera turns out to be the quickest sprinter here despite producing just 379 horses. The Lexus LC 500 follows it with 4.4 seconds on the clock but it is overtaken by the Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic in the quarter-mile test. With its least powerful engine, the 8 Series comes in the last pace but definitely gives a fight to the LC 500 in the quarter-mile test.

The most fuel-efficient 8 Series is the RWD 840i- Carbuzz

With a surprisingly big engine, the 2021 BMW 8 Series offers EPA-estimated fuel ratings of 23 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. Summing up these figures, the coupe returns a combined MPG of 25. The coupe defies all odds by offering an impressive fuel mileage for its class. Opting for the AWD configuration drops down the combined MPG by 2.

Furthermore, the 2021 8 Series Coupe gets a fuel tank capacity of 18 gallons, which happens to be a mediocre figure when compared with the segment standards. However, despite that, when combined with the segment-leading mpg figures, the 8 Series Coupe offers a combined range of 450 miles on a single full tank. 

The fuel mileage offered by the 8 Series takes it to the very top as no other rival can match it. The Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic's combined MPG of 22 manages to move past the MPG figures of the Porsche 911 Carrera but it is still not enough to compete with BMW. Meanwhile, the Lexus LC 500 is the least fuel-efficient vehicle among the lot.

The cabin's look and feel are a huge asset- Edmunds

The interiors of the 2021 BMW 8 Series Coupe are luxurious and appealing. The four-seater can be seen with a trim of chrome, metallic-wood inlays, and silver aluminum finish which enhances the vibe of the car. The front seats are cozy, wee-cushioned, and spacious with Merino leather upholstery and micro-filter ventilation. There is a lot of room up front for healthy people. A three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel is provided with heating, memory, tilt, and telescopic adjustment making it the best steering wheel out there.

Like other coupe models, getting to the back seat requires a lot of effort. The pair of vestigial rear seats turn out to be quite the opposite with a congested arrangement leading to space crunch even for children. To make the journey more entertaining, the coupe comes loaded with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system. However, a Bowers & Wilkins surround system with 16 speakers can be opted for if the Harman Kardon system does not feel enough. The 8 Series offers you a number of ways to interact with the infotainment panel, which is either the touchscreen, voice or the iDrive touchpad Controller. 2021 BMW 8 Series Coupe vs 2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe

The Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic is the most economic purchase in this competition. It produces 45 hp more than the 8 Series and hence it is a tad quicker. However, it loses in terms of fuel economy. Although it is a two-seater, it offers good passenger space and cargo capacity as the 8 Series. When it comes to safety, it cannot afford to offer as many safety features as the 8 Series.

2021 BMW 8 Series Coupe vs 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

With a starting price of $99,200, the Porsche 911 Carrera is the most expensive competitor of the BMW 8 Series. Its 379-hp flat-6 engine shows the way to smooth and quick acceleration. But its MPG figures are not worth comparing to the 8 Series. Also, its compact dimensions pay the toll on its cramped cabin and practicality which is the opposite in the case of the 8 Series. The latter is also ahead in terms of safety, 

2021 BMW 8 Series Coupe vs 2021 Lexus LC 500 Coupe

The Lexus LC 500 is nearly $5,000 costlier than the 8 Series. It houses the most powerful engine in this competition and hence possesses better agility. On the other hand, the 8 Series is able to stand strong with an unmatchable fuel mileage as well as cargo space. The LC 500's rear row also feels slightly spacious than the 8 Series. Not to forget, it also boasts more standard safety features and is almost hard to beat in terms of reliability.
