Overall Rating
Honda has always made its way to the top by being amongst the most desirable and high-output automobile makers in the market. Since the beginning, Honda has been bestowed with many awards for its outstanding work.
The Honda Ridgeline has received a mild update for the model year 2021. Though the new Ridgeline is still a member of the second generation Honda Ridgeline that debuted in 2017, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline makes up for a much better overall package. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline looks a lot more "truck-like" as it has been complemented by a fresh design from the front roof pillars forward. The updates are not limited to the exterior shell as the 2021 Honda Ridgeline's interior has also been spruced-up by folks at Honda.
Well, that's not all, Honda has also launched a new appearance package for the 2021 Honda Ridgeline, going by the name Honda Performance Development (HPD) Package. The HPD Package of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline adds a distinctive blacked-out grille, black overfenders, HPD graphics on the bed walls, and gangst-looking bronze wheels. Though no changes have been made on the powertrain front, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline will be a better off-roader as it gets newly designed 18-inch wheels slapped on with aggressive all-terrain tires, wider track-width, and a broader stance.
Although all the trims on offer stand as very reasonable options in their own terms, the RTL has more to offer at a comparatively low price and most of the packages and features are available with it, so anyone looking for a few add-ons and a little bit of customization gets a good deal.

The Honda Ridgeline is all-new for the model year 2021, yet what hasn't changed is the trim lineup. The 2020 Honda Ridgeline limited its trim levels and the 2021 model is expected to follow the same path, with just 4 trims on offer.
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline will be offered in a total of 4 trims - Sport, RTL, RTL-E, and Black Edition. The prices of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline starts from $36,490 for the base Sport trim and ranges up to $43,920 for the top-of-the-line Black Edition variant.

All the trims of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline are mechanically identical to each other will all of them obtaining their octane via a 3.5L V6 engine mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and only differ on the basis of available features and amenities. However, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline offers an AWD drivetrain as optional on the lower Sport and RTL trims and as standard on the RTL-E and Black Edition variants.
Although all the trims on offer stand as very reasonable options in their own terms, the RTL has more to offer at a comparatively low price and most of the packages and features are available with it, so anyone looking for a few add-ons and a little bit of customization gets a good deal.
"Steering and handling are unrivaled among midsize pickups — this is where the benefits of being a car-based truck shine through." - Edmunds
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline gets a powerful 3.5L V6 engine that has the capability to give up to 280 horsepower and 262lb-ft of torque. The mechanical configuration of the 2021 Ridgeline and the power figures are exactly the same as its predecessor.
The 3.5L V6 engine of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline is further mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Though the gearbox happens to be pretty smooth, sharp, and precise, yet the only downside happens to be the fact that this is the only available transmission setup here. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline does not get any other transmission options.
However, it's not all "cut-copy-paste" when it comes to the mechanicals of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline. What happens to be a welcome change in the 2021 Honda Ridgeline is the availability of Honda’s intelligent Variable Traction Management (i-VTM4) torque-vectoring AWD drivetrain. This torque-vectoring AWD drivetrain is offered as optional on the lower trims (Sport and RTL) and as standard in the top trims (RTL-E and Black Edition).
This setup can route up to 70% of the available 262 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels and apportions 100 percent of that torque between the left and right rear wheels, depending on the driving conditions laid out at each wheel.

Although the Ridgeline offers a fun ride, the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon provide a stronger engine and better performance. To stand strong in the competition the Ford Ranger comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission that is mated to a 2.3L EcoBoost 4-pot engine. Though the Ford Ranger gets the smallest engine block in this comparison, yet churns out pretty impressive power figures.
Though there have been no official details about how well the 2021 Honda Ridgeline will be able to accelerate. However, since there are no mechanical changes taking place, we expect the new model to be just as fast as the 2020 model. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline is expected to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.2 seconds - the same as the 2020 model, while the quarter-mile is achieved in 15.6 seconds, at a speed of 88 mph.
When it comes to pickup trucks, the towing and payload capacities matter a lot more than the sprinting capabilities. Speaking of the new Ridgeline, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline offers a standard towing capacity of 5000 pounds, which isn't really an impressive figure. Furthermore, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline gets a 5.4-inch bed that offers a payload capacity of 1580-pounds.
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline will be able to roll for 19 miles in the city or coast through 24 miles on the highway for every gallon of gasoline. Summing up these figures, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline is good for a combined 21 mpg.
Furthermore, the Ridgeline comes with a maximum fuel capacity of 19.5 gallons, which happens to be pretty smart, and can secrete up to 370 miles of range in the city or 468 miles on the highway, before finally coming to a refill stop at a gas station.

Speaking of competition, the Ford Ranger churns out the best in class mpg figures owing to its smaller engine. The Ridgeline follows the suit, giving a similar mileage output as well as fuel range. The Chevrolet Colorado's mpg figures and GMC Canyon's mpg figures slot in the bottom half with a combined mpg figure of 18.
"The Ridgeline's interior is tops in its class in terms of practicality and comfort. As with most other mid-size pickups, the Honda features hard plastics below the dash level. Otherwise, the materials are above average." - Car and Driver
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline's interior remains mostly unchanged and, just like its predecessor, reflects utility, quality, and comfort. Though we are not saying that the designers have saved the efforts and have not revamped the interiors at all.Â
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline's cabin is similar to the previous design but definitely feels much more premium and spruced up for the model year 2021. For the model year 2021, the Honda Ridgeline adds a number of artistic touches inside the cabin.
These tweaks include new cloth seat inserts in the Sport trim. Apart from this, all the trims of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline get new contrast stitching on the seats, and Sport, RTL, and RTL-E trims have new accents on the dash, steering wheel, and center console.
While the cabin of all the other pickup trucks of this segment is characterized by hard-touch plastics and rugged-looking upholstery, the Ridgeline still gives you a warm welcome with a comfortable seating arrangement for 5Â and a cabin covered mostly in soft and plush material.Â

The front seats of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline are electronically adjustable and feel more comfortable with under-thigh support whereas the rear seats offer the most space in the class. The texture, material, and minute detailing work add to the look of the cabin.Â
Inside the cabin, sufficient-sized cup holders and other storage spaces are provided for daily-use products. The Ridgeline comes with 41.4Â cubic feet of truck bed cargo capacity and 7.3 cubic feet of lockable in-bed trunk volume making it a strong contender for the spot of the highest amount of space on offer, amongst its rivals.
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline’s infotainment duties will be carried out by the same 8-inch touchscreen panel as the 2020 Ridgeline. However, with an updated Display Audio system. This upgrade encompasses various facets of the new Ridgeline's infotainment forte. With the advent of crisp new graphics, easier-to-use touchscreen icons, and finally a physical volume knob, it is a lot easier to operate the setup.
Â
With a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, SiriusXM, Bluetooth Connectivity, HondaLink connectivity, and a premium sound system in some trims, the truck is hard to beat in this segment. Furthermore, the Ridgeline also offers optional speakers in the bed that uses actuators to vibrate the whole bed turning it into one large speaker.
Some of the most prominent infotainment features of the 2021Â Honda Ridgeline are:
"New looks this year make the Ridgeline look more like a pickup." - TheCarConnection
The 2021 model year facelift brings along a couple of cosmetic changes, and finally "trucks-up" the Ridgeline. Starting upfront, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline flaunts all-new sheet metal from the front roof pillars forward. The truck has also received a number of styling upgrades that include a new hood, new front fenders, a more upright grille, updated LED headlights, a new front bumper, and broader side vents.
The new-gen Ridgeline also gets new side vents on the front bumper. These vents have been made broad enough to route air through the bumper, creating air curtains for improved aerodynamics. At the back, the rear bumper has received a slight restyling in order to draw your attention to the two large exhaust pipes.
Apart from these maquillage enhancements, the all-new 2021 Honda Ridgeline also flaunts new kicks. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline gets new 18-inch wheels as standard with new, aggressive sidewall and shoulder design wheels.

For the model year 2021, Honda has also introduced a special appearance package for the Ridgeline, going by the name Honda Performance Development package.
This bundle adds a number of goodies to the Ridgeline, the most prominent of which happens to be bronze wheels, a unique grille, black fender flares, and HPD (Honda Performance Development) graphics.
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline has not yet been crash-tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS. However, the 2020 Honda Ridgeline earned a 5-stat rating from NHTSA and the IIHS recognized it as the top safety pick.
The 2021 Ridgeline gets Honda Safety Sense as standard. Honda Safety Sense is an array of driver-assist highlights that offer Front collision mitigation and automated emergency as standard. Elevate to the upper trims and the list of driver-assist features gets lengthier with more advanced highlights such as Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring, making the Ridgeline safer in heavy traffic.
Apart from these, some of the prominent safety features that the 2021 Honda Ridgeline gets as standard include:
Chevrolet Colorado is a high-class powerful pick-up truck; it offers a better powertrain as well as a more predictable driving experience. On the opposite side is the Ridgeline with a spacious comfortable interior and an impressive fuel mileage.
Even though the Ridgeline offers greater reliability and a long list of safety features, Colorado manages to perform better in most of the segments that a pickup truck shopper will be concerned with. Be it the towing or payload capabilities, or the potency to go the unpaved way, Colorado is more of a pickup truck than the Ridgeline.
Ford Ranger stands as a better performer in terms of speed as well as handling with a greater level of predictability. With a better fuel mileage and ride quality, the Ranger proves itself as a stronger pick-up truck whereas the Ridgeline has upgraded tech features, utility, comfort, and style making it a more practical choice as the performance is also satisfactory, if not the best.
The Ranger beats the Ridgeline in terms of performace and capabilities, while the Ridgeline has an edge in terms of comfort and practicality. So if you need a hardcore pickup truck, go for the Ranger, but in case you don't want to compromise on the comfort aspect, Ridgeline is the best choice.
GMC Canyon is similar to the Colorado, so it offers better performance but the Ridgeline is able to outshine it as most of the features and comfort factors in the Canyon can only be availed in the higher trims, making the other trims rather uncomfortable and impractical to buy.
Even the Ridgeline Sport has so much to offer with much better styling and comfort level that it seems like the perfect option.
Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab is reliable as well as comfortable with a well-equipped interior and stylish exterior. Among an armada of solid and hearty machines, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline separates itself with a pleasantly adjusted bundle of features on offer.
It looks sharp and offers a premium and upscale cabin, is enjoyable to drive, offers extraordinary effectiveness, and a first-class sense of well-being. To conclude, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline is worth all the time and effort.
