About 2021 Lexus RX 350

3.9

Overall Rating

Lexus’ gameplay of offering some of the best looking cars with the backing of Toyota’s reliability has worked in the past with almost all of their offerings. From developing the best sounding sports car (LC 500) to the heaviest of SUV’s the LX. The RX SUV marks the entrance into Lexus’s line-up of three-row SUVs, the GX, and the LX. The RX comes within both V6 and a V6 with two electric motors.

The 2021 Lexus RX 350 is on sale in the US with some minimalistic changes in terms of features. The prices of the new RX 350 start at $45,170 for the standard Front-Wheel-Drive setup and the All-Wheel-Drive configuration further costs you $46,570. The RX 350 is still offered with a naturally aspirated V6 engine, with a power output of 295 hp and an 8 Speed Automatic Transmission.

The new 2021 Lexus RX 350 is offered in a single trim level, however, you still get to choose from a long list of additional packages with some additional charges. The RX 350 locks its horns with some of the most prominent names in the industry like Mercedes-Benz GLE 350, BMW X3, and the Audi Q5. Let's find out how the new RX 350 is to live with on a daily basis.

The base 2021 Lexus RX 350 is a good choice and packs in value for money for the $47,000 price tag it comes with. Yes, the F-Sports trim does make matters exciting with some additional comfort features, but it gets pricey. The Base RX 350 gets the same engine, with the same power output and performance figures, and costs less than the F Sport trim. The spacious interior and the exterior with some standard and omnipresent elegant styling makes it a wholesome package with the additional benefit of coming from a manufacturer, known for its reliability. How better can things get?

2021 Lexus RX 350 Review

Pros

  • Assuring resale and reliability value
  • Uptown cabin with top-notch build quality
  • Ultra smooth ride

Cons

  • Styling may not relate to everyone
  • Not the sportiest of rides

Lexus’ gameplay of offering some of the best looking cars with the backing of Toyota’s reliability has worked in the past with almost all of their offerings. From developing the best sounding sports car (LC 500) to the heaviest of SUV’s the LX. The RX SUV marks the entrance into Lexus’s line-up of three-row SUVs, the GX, and the LX. The RX comes within both V6 and a V6 with two electric motors.

Overview

The 2021 Lexus RX 350 is on sale in the US with some minimalistic changes in terms of features. The prices of the new RX 350 start at $45,170 for the standard Front-Wheel-Drive setup and the All-Wheel-Drive configuration further costs you $46,570. The RX 350 locks its horns with some of the most prominent names in the industry like Mercedes-Benz GLE 350, BMW X3, and the Audi Q5. Let's find out how the new RX 350 is to live with on a daily basis.

Pricing and Features
7.0/10

Lexus RX 350 comes in 2 two trims levels which incorporate the base, and F-Sport. Both the trims of the 2021 Lexus RX 350 are identical to each other on the mechanical front and come in standard Front-Wheel Drive, but there’s also an optional All-Wheel Drive available. However, the 2021 Lexus RX 350 F Sport has been reviewed separately. Now, speaking of the 2021 Lexus RX 350, well the standard RX 350 is offered as a standalone trim only. The prices for the 2021 Lexus RX 350 start at $45,070 for the standard FWD drivetrain and $46,470 for the optional AWD drivetrain.

For the record, the prices of the Lexus RX 350 have seen a bump when compared to the prices of the 2020 Lexus RX 350, as the new model features noticeable changes, like standard safety features across the range, and updated interior trim options. Apart from this standard configuration, Lexus also offers two prominent packages for the 2021 RX 350, going by the names - Premium Package, and Luxury Package. Premium Package includes features that are mostly for the inside. Expect it to cost a reasonable $800 on the 2021 RX 350.

Buying Advice

The 2021 Lexus RX 350 base trim is a good choice and packs in value for money. Sure the upper trim F-Sport gets more creature comforts. But the base already provides decent engine performance, with decent fuel economy and braking stats. The spacious interior and the exterior with enhanced elegant styling makes it a wholesome package. And this Lexus is also one of the most reliable cars in the market for its low maintenance and repair costs.

Engine and Performance
7.4/10

"With this primary mission to pamper and coddle, the 2021 Lexus RX 350 isn’t focused on aggressive cornering or breathtaking acceleration. Conversely, it’s not sloppy or slow." - Kelley Blue Book

For the 2021 model year, the Lexus RX 350 isn't anticipating any adjustment in its Engine Performance. Yes, the 2021 Lexus RX 350 carries forward the same 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 engine as the 2020 model. The 3.5L Regular V6 motor offered in the 2021 Lexus RX 350 produces a healthy 295 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque output. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic transmission that performs sleek and smooth shifts, matching the rev-range every time. To aid with the sporty feel, the F Sport gets paddle shifters behind the wheel as well.

The Lexus RX 350's gearbox routes all the grunt to the front wheels of this crossover by default. Well, that's until you pay a few extra bucks and go for the optional AWD setup.  The 2021 Lexus RX 350 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds, while the quarter of a mile lap is completed in 15.1 seconds. Speaking of the braking setup on the 2021 Lexus RX 350, well this crossover equips 12.9-inch brake rotors at the front and 13.3-inch rotors at the rear. Together this setup can make the 2021 RX 350 decelerate from 60-0 mph in a distance of 123 feet, which again is an average figure.

Its interior has a lot of delicate touch material, a refreshed infotainment that includes an updated 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia display is placed intuitively to provide easier access to Navigation, climate, and more controls. There are also leather seats that come with standard Nulex Synthetic leather. An optional 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with the route navigation and an optional 15-speaker Mark Levinson encompass sound framework is accessible inside the Navigation package. Lexus has improved the infotainment framework in its RX models a lot and the 12.3-inch touchscreen looks modern and is loaded with a number of utilitarian features.

The Lexus RX 350 ditched the orthodox Remote Touch Interface in the model year 2020, and the new touchscreen panel is just as good as it gets. With crisp and intuitive graphics, spot-on response time, and great visibility under sunlight, the 2021 Lexus RX 350 fares pretty well on the infotainment part. The Lexus RX 350's interior is overall a very well rounded package, however, the only aspect where this crossover lags against its rivals is the cargo capacity on offer. The 2021 Lexus RX 350 offers a truck capacity of 18.4 cubic feet, with all seats in place, which happens to be a pretty mediocre figure for a crossover of this segment.

The cabin is very well muffled and restricts most of the engine and wind noises. The seats are as comfy as it can get, with great support and cushioning. The rear seats of the 2020 Lexus RX 350 are also a great place to be in. The spacious three-across rear bench seat setup provides a cozy spot to be in. Fold the rear seats down and you end up with ab overall cargo space that goes up to 32.6 cubic feet. However, another issue that arises here is the fact that the rear seats of the RX 350 don’t fold flat, thus creating an uneven floor.

Safety
9.5/10

The Lexus RX 350 bagged the IIHS's highest “Good” overall crash-test scores and “Acceptable” headlight ratings for the model year 2020, making it one of the Top Safety Picks by IIHS. Now, since there are no significant changes on the cards for the RX 350 in the model year 2021, we expect the same level of security and safety to get carried forward.

However, moving away from expectations, the reality is that the 2021 Lexus RX 350 will offer enhanced safety over its predecessor, mainly because of the addition of 2 new safety highlights. While the 2021 Lexus RX 350 carries over the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 from the model year 2020, this time it also includes Blind-spot Monitor with Rear Cross-traffic Alert and Power-folding auto-dim mirrors as standard across the range.

Apart from these, some of the most eminent standard safety features aboard the 2021 Lexus RX 350 includes:

Competition
7.0/10

2021 Lexus RX 350 Vs Mercedes Benz GLE

Mercedes Benz GLE competes well with Lexus 350. It has a similar interior space with high tech infotainment. It has better torque output but Lexus has the best engine performance. In terms of braking and Fuel economy, both are good.

The safety provided in Lexus RX 350 is much better than Mercedes. Both have good reliability ratings but Mercedes is more expensive than the Lexus RX 350.

Lexus RX 350 Vs BMW X3

Lexus RX 350 has better engine performance while the BMW X3 is faster than Lexus RX 350 and has better braking performance too. In terms of fuel economy, BMW X3 offers a better economy than Lexus. Both have a spacious interior and elegant exterior. They both have a good reliability score.

The safety provided is better in Lexus RX 350. Both cars have a similar base price. It is a difficult choice, which one to choose but we would suggest you purchase Lexus considering its safety and engine performance.

Lexus RX 350 Vs Audi Q5

Audi Q5 is just another German rival that pits well against the Lexus RX 350. The Lexus RX 350 offers a bigger engine than the Q5, that belts out greater power figures, and cruises at highway digit speeds all-day without getting buzzy.

However, it's the Audi Q5 that holds the potential to quench your thirst for the thrill. With class-leading torque figures, being backed up by Audi's sensational Quattro AWD drivetrain, the Q5 is the fastest sprinter in class. Apart from this, there is no such major difference between the RX 350 and the Q5, as both offer the same level of fuel economy and interior comfort.

Final Verdict

If you are in the market, looking for a crossover that's not too difficult to maneuver around the town, yet offers enough space to easily accommodate you and your family for weekend-long trips, the Lexus RX 350 makes for a great option. Though it might not be an arousing sprinter, we don't think that spirited driving is something that you'd get involved in when you are driving around with your family.

And that's exactly the spot the RX 350 fills, with its calm and collected composure. The 2021 Lexus RX 350 also offers advanced safety features, while a great warranty package and world-renowned reliability are just some cherries on the cake.
