Available for a base MSRP of $74,740, the 2021 Maserati Ghibli is offered in the same 3 trim configurations. When it comes to the mechanicals, the 2021 Maserati Ghibli comes with no changes from the outgoing 2020 model, retaining the same 3L twin-turbocharged Ferrari-derived V6 motor putting out 345 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The RWD drivetrain is offered too. When it comes to the exterior, the design and features do not see any major changes. The 10 exterior colors, automatic LED headlights with LED DRLs, 19" alloy wheels, heated and powered side mirrors, LED taillights, quad exhaust, etc are offered as standard.

Another major change to the 2021 iteration is the addition of the high-performance Trofeo variant, which comes with the V8 motor under the hood. This has been reviewed separately here. When talking about the interior, the 11 upholstery and interior colors, leather upholstery, automatic climate control system, heated and powered seats, 10.1" touchscreen infotainment system, 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, etc are standard too. The safety and driver-assistance features like automated emergency braking system, forward collision monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, etc are offered as well.

We would recommend the 2021 Maserati Ghibli GranLusso trim, which is available for a base MSRP of $82,240, as it turned out to be the most value-for-money trim of the lot. It offers many features and equipment like heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, adaptive full LED headlights with high beam assist, 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and many more as standard, most of which are missed out on the base trim.

The Ghibli brings Maserati panache at a lower price in a sleek sedan with a tight back seat and willing turbocharged V-6 power. - Thecarconnection

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli comes with the Ferrari-derived 3L twin-turbo V6 motor that is capable of putting out a respectable 345 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. This motor comes mated to the 8-speed ZF sourced torque converter automatic transmission that offers manual mode and multiple transmission modes. The steering-mounted paddle shifters are also on board. The RWD drivetrain remains standard with no option to get the AWD drivetrain. 

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli is more of a grand tourer than a high-performance sedan. This can also be seen in its suspension tuning. The car offers excellent ride quality, both during slow city driving as well as during highway driving. All the bumps and potholes are handled with ease. However, it is not the most dynamically sorted offering of the segment, especially in comparison to some of the rivals, as the body roll and understeer are quite prominent. 

With a V6 motor, producing lower than average performance, under the hood, the acceleration on offer is also not the best of the segment. The car managed to give out a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.4 seconds. However, the top speed of 166 MPH is the best of the lot. With 13.6" front rotors and 12.6" rear rotors, the braking performance on offer is excellent. However, the 60-0 mph braking distance hasn't been revealed yet. In comparison, the 2021 Ghibli S gave out a faster 0-60 mph time and quarter-mile time.

When it comes to the performance on offer, both the 2021 Audi S6 and the 2021 Mercedes Benz E53 AMG gave out much better output, which was about 100 hp more than the 2021 Ghibli. The 2021 Porsche Panamera, which was the most expensive offering of the segment, turned out to be the worst of the lot too. A similar result is also present for the acceleration times as well, with the 2021 S6 and the 2021 E53 AMG coming out with the best in class 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. However, the 2021 Panamera gave out a better 0-60 mph time of 5.3 seconds, which is followed by the 2021 Ghibli.

Since the Ghibli lacks a base four-cylinder model, its EPA fuel-economy ratings are thirstier than the average mid-size luxury car. - Caranddriver

The engine of the 2021 Maserati Ghibli is not the most frugal unit of the segment. The 3.0L V6 engine is tuned specifically to perform and the fuel efficiency has been traded off for it. Retaining the same powertrain of the outgoing 2020 model, it manages to give out an identical 17 MPG of city gas mileage, 25 MPG of highway gas mileage, and 20 MPG of combined gas mileage.

Available for sale at a base MSRP of $74,740, the fuel tank capacity of 21.1 gallons also sees no changes from the outgoing 2020 model. This helps the car to give out a city range of 358.7 miles, a highway range of 527.5 miles, and a combined range of 422 miles. In comparison, the 2021 Ghibli S, which is available for a base MSRP of $77,190, managed to give out a slightly lower combined gas mileage of 19 MPG.

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli turned out to be the least fuel-efficient offering of the segment, which is followed by the 2021 Audi S6, which gave out a slightly higher 22 MPG of combined gas mileage. The 2021 Mercedes Benz E53 AMG gave out an impressive 25 MPG of combined gas mileage. However, the 2021 Panamera topped the chart with combined gas mileage of 26 MPG.

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli is a luxury Italian sedan that is offered for a base MSRP of $74,740. Even though the car doesn't see a lot of changes from the outgoing 2020 model, it still gets minor updates, making it look more opulent and premium. The cabin comes covered in leather, aluminum accents, and wooden inserts, all of which stand out. The impressive customization options given by Maserati, starting with the 11 interior and upholstery colors are quite good. All the interior features like heated and powered seats, leather upholstery, automatic climate control system, heated steering wheel, etc are standard too. 

When it comes to the interior space on offer, the 2021 Maserati Ghibli doesn't disappoint much. Being a 5-seater luxury sedan, the 2021 Ghibli gets impressive headroom and shoulder room for the front seats. The rear seat also offers great space, making it quite comfortable for 3 passengers. However, the legroom of 37.7" for the front seat passengers and 33.2" for the rear seat passengers were the worst of the lot. This disappointment was slightly taken care of by the best in class cargo capacity of 17.7 cu ft offered by the 2021 Ghibli.

The 2021 Porsche Panamera is the only sedan in the segment that can accommodate only 4 passengers. It hasn't revealed the interior space on offer too. However, in comparison to the 2021 S6 and the 2021 E53 AMG, the 2021 Ghibli turned out to be quite similar, especially in terms of headroom and shoulder room. However, the legroom turned out to be the worst of the lot for the Ghibli. In terms of cargo space, the Ghibli topped the chart, which is followed by the Panamera. Both the S6 and the E53 AMG turned out to be mediocre. The Ghibli comes with a new 10.1" touchscreen infotainment and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

The infotainment system turned out to be much more intuitive than the outgoing 2020 model, due to the neat menu layout, excellent touch sensitivity, and punchy display on offer. This infotainment also comes with many connectivity features as standard like the Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, AUX, USB, and many more. The audio quality through the 10-speaker audio system is impressive too. Even the 8-speaker Maserati audio system, which is offered with the base trim, turned out to be quite excellent, due to punchy bass and clear vocals. Retaining the same exterior design of the outgoing 2020 model, the 2021 Maserati Ghibli, which is available for a base MSRP of $74,740, looks beautiful, even though it has been in continuous production for a long time. Coming in with 10 exterior colors, the 2021 Ghibli offers the majestic front view, which is highlighted by the striking LED headlights with LED DRLs, the oval-shaped blacked-out grille with the Maserati trident neatly embossed in the middle, and the large air dam that is covered with a mesh grille. The masculine hood design and the low ground clearance of 4.5" also add to the sporty character.

The side view of the 2021 Maserati Ghibli is neat and subtle. Even with the simple design language, it is still one of the best-looking sedans on sale in the United States. This is due to the well-integrated vents in the fender, subtle fender flares which gets the massive 19" alloy wheels as standard, and the clean and sharp body lines. The Maserati embossed brake calipers and the optional 20" and 21" alloy wheels also make the ride look even sweeter. The rearview and the third quarter are the best-looking angles of this sedan, mainly due to the sleek coupe-like design language, coupled with the LED taillights, quad exhaust, etc.

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli turned out to be the lightest offering of the segment, coming in with a curb weight of just 3,990 lbs. The 2021 Audi S6 weighed about 500 lbs more than the Ghibli and the 2021 E53 AMG turned out to be about 400 lbs heavier than the Ghibli. When it comes to the 2021 Porsche Panamera, it offered the best in class length, width, and ground clearance, making it one of the roomiest offerings of the segment, even though the interior dimension hasn't been posted by Porsche yet. The 2021 Porsche Panamera is the most expensive offering of the segment, coming in for a base MSRP of $87,200. Even though the car was much more expensive than all the rivals, it was the most luxurious, had the best in class interior quality and refinement, and offered excellent gas mileage and driving dynamics. However, the 2021 Ghibli turned out to be more powerful, offered more features as standard, and is much cheaper than the 2021 Panamera.

2021 Maserati Ghibli vs 2021 Audi S6

The 2021 Audi S6 is a mid-size sporty sedan that offers superior performance and acceleration, better gas mileage, and a more comfortable interior, due to the better legroom on offer, in comparison to the 2021 Ghibli. We also found the S6 to be more sporty and fun to drive. However, the 2021 Ghibli was cheaper, has a better ride quality, and looks much more elegant and classy than the S6. With a base MSRP that is identical for both cars, if you want more performance and space, we would recommend you to get the 2021 Audi S6.

2021 Maserati Ghibli vs 2021 Mercedes Benz E53 AMG

The 2021 Mercedes Benz E53 AMG is a performance sedan that also turned out to be an excellent proposition in terms of luxury. Available for a base MSRP of $79,740, it is faster, offers better gas mileage, feels like a typical German in terms of build quality, and offers a much more well-put-together interior, in comparison to the 2021 Ghibli. We also found the interior to be more comfortable in the 2021 E53 AMG. However, the 2021 Ghibli looks better, has more road presence, and offers a plethora of customization and personalization options. It has a better ride quality too.

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli has a lot of things going for it. Available for sale at a base MSRP of $74,740, the 2021 Ghibli offers an impressive design for both the interior and exterior, comes out with one of the best ride quality of the segment, and gave out many interior and infotainment features as standard. The performance was also good, even though the rivals managed to do better. However, we weren't impressed with the mediocre legroom, lower-than-average interior quality, and terrible gas mileage. Hence, we would recommend you check out the 2021 S6 and the 2021 E53 AMG before taking a decision.
